H2H6 / H2H6 Regular Season Recap

When H2H6 was announced back in March, there was a definite feeling of excitement around the community. H2H has always brought out some of the best work ever seen at NE, and it’s safe to say that this year has not been a disappointment. This season has already seen stunning work from returning veterans as well as breakout performances by lesser-known names, and we’ve still got the playoffs! But before that, let’s relive some of the best moments of the regular season.

Sign-ups exploded quickly, with 96 total players registering to play this season, proving the RCT community is still solid. Ten days after sign-ups opened, the draft took place. Nin surprised nearly everyone with the first pick by passing on both geewhzz and robbie92 and instead teaming with 5dave. But the real surprise of the draft was Louis! and his all LL team (something unheard of today). So teams were set and the first deadline was in sight.

Right from the start, it was clear the quality of parks in this season was going to be higher than anything previously seen. The first match-up between the Hurricanes and Replacements was electric, with the Fisch and Dimi’s Sea of Sagas ending Kumba’s competition winning streak and being called one of the greatest H2H parks of all time. That didn’t last long as in the very next match-up, as Reservoir Dogs tandem K0NG and BelgianGuy released Frankenstein…... in black and white. It was a revolutionary yet simple technique sure to be emulated in the near future. Round one concluded on a high note as the RevoLLutionists added credence to the assertion that an LL team stood a chance in this day and age to be competitive, as they defeated the Flying Germans in a very tight vote.

    Round One Recap
Sea of Sagas (Replacements) def. Zombieland (Hurricanes)...64-16
Frankenstein (Reservoir Dogs) def. Atlantean Ark (Heaven's Kitchen)...54-4
Cars Land (RevoLLutionists) def. Adventure Isle (Flying Germans)...25-23

    1. Reservoir Dogs (1-0…...93.1%)
    2. Replacements (1-0...…80.0%)
    3. RevoLLutionists (1-0…...52.1%)
    4. Flying Germans (0-1…...47.9%)
    5. Hurricanes (0-1…...20.0%)
    6. Heaven’s Kitchen (0-1...…6.9%)

Just as the shock and awe of the first round was sinking in, the next round of parks was served up. The second round began with the Hurricanes defeating the Reservoir Dogs in a battle of Dutch lead builders. Six Frags wowed with his complex moving traffic patterns and Cena proved himself yet again an elite hacker. The next match-up was a sign of things to come from Heaven’s Kitchen as they released one of the round’s strongest parks, Monstrocity, which was strong enough to defeat team LL. The third match of the round saw the first significantly unfinished submission in the Flying Germans’ Park Edda. Regardless, Robbie’s work was still strong enough put up a fight against the likes of nin and 5dave.

    Round Two Recap
London 2012 Olympic Village (Hurricanes) def. Pixar Animation Studios (Reservoir Dogs)...35-14
Monstrocity (Heaven's Kitchen) def. The Lost Samurai (RevoLLutionists)...13-8
Tivoli Gardens (Replacements) def. Park Edda (Flying Germans)...24-18

    1. Replacements (2-0…...72.1%)
    2. Reservoir Dogs (1-1…...63.6%)
    3. RevoLLutionists (1-1…...47.8%)
    4. Hurricanes (1-1…...39.5%)
    5. Heaven’s Kitchen (1-1…...21.5%)
    6. Flying Germans (0-2…...45.6%)

The first match of Round Three provided what I consider to be the best pairing of the regular season: The Replacements’ incredibly vibrant Worlds of Fun vs. Heaven’s Kitchen’s classy Asian-themed Lijiang. Lijiang was strong enough to win, establishing Pacificoaster as a significant force. The next match was a bit of revenge for Roomie on Louis! for selecting him to the LL squad, as he led the Reservoir Dogs to a victory in the first all-LL match in H2H history. Round Three’s final match showed just how much trouble the Germans were having behind the scenes as they submitted a highly unfinished Harry Potter park. Thanks to the singular vote of some asshole brony with the shittiest user name on the site, the Hurricanes were denied a shutout victory. Regardless, the Canes’ Avatar was a breakout performance for both wheres_walto and In:Cities.

    Round Three Recap
Lijiang (Heaven's Kitchen) def. Worlds of Fun (Replacements)...30-14
Copper Creek (Reservoir Dogs) def. Concrete Jungle (RevoLLutionists)...13-12
Avatar (Hurricanes) def. The Adventures of Harry Potter (Flying Germans)...32-1

    1. Replacements (2-1...…61.4%)
    2. Reservoir Dogs (2-1…...61.4%)
    3. Hurricanes (2-1…...51.2%)
    4. Heaven’s Kitchen (2-1...…38.2%)
    5. RevoLLutionists (1-2…...47.9%)
    6. Flying Germans (0-3…...34.1%)

With the standings deadlocked, Round 4 was going to be the deciding week for teams to prove where they belonged. It worked out just that way as the Hurricanes, Heaven’s Kitchen, and Reservoir Dogs all scored huge blowout victories. The Hurricanes’ steadfast combination of Kumba and J_K easily plowed the RevoLLutionists’ unfinished Europa with their own Terra Progressia. Match two introduced the park of the season as the Heaven’s Kitchen trio of AvanineCommuter, Turtle, and Wicksteed delivered Le Rêve Parapluie. With an unrivaled atmosphere and backstory, the Flying Germans didn’t stand a chance. Even so, the German’s The Classic was a pleasant surprise as Fizzix showed real skill. In the final match, the Dogs went RCTNW and released Atlantis Resort, which easily defeated a highly unfinished Kim Jong Il park.

    Round Four Recap
Terra Progressia (Hurricanes) def. Europa (RevoLLutionists)...15-0
Le Rêve Parapluie (Heaven's Kitchen) def. The Classic (Flying Germans)...28-2
Atlantis Resort (Reservoir Dogs) def. Kim Jong Il's Present To His People Park (Replacements)...25-2

    1. Reservoir Dogs (3-1...…66.7%)
    2. Hurricanes (3-1…...55.4%)
    3. Heaven’s Kitchen (3-1...…49.0%)
    4. Replacements (2-2…...53.9%)
    5. RevoLLutionists (1-3…...41.3%)
    6. Flying Germans (0-4…...28.8%)

Entering Round 5, the Dogs, Canes, and Spicy Cocks had all locked up playoff berths. The Germans had crashed, leaving the Replacements and team LL fighting for the final spot. And it just so happened that they were competing against each other. The Replacements sent out a very impressive Disney princess park with New Fantasyland, but it just wasn’t good enough to beat perhaps the single greatest LL park in H2H history: The Siege of Jerusalem. Siege was a definite coming out party for pierrot, who has been slowly rising into the elite. Nin’s squad lost the head-to-head battle, but still backed into the playoffs based on their superior vote percentage. The second match once again was an essential forfeit by the Germans (perhaps Flying French would have been a better team name), as their barren Hard Rock Park was shut out by a very impressive Galaxy Geeland. H2H6’s final regular season match was a highly anticipated one between Kumba’s Hurricanes and Liam’s Curryhanes, who each entered the round on big winning streaks. Sadly, the match was disappointing on both sides, as Busch Gardens: The New World was unfinished and unrefined while Colorflood was a difficult to appreciate concept creation. In a close match, FK scored the victory over I:C.

    Round Five Recap
The Siege of Jerusalem (RevoLLutionists) def. New Fantasyland (Replacements)...23-11
Galaxy Geeland (Reservoir Dogs) def. Hard Rock Park (Flying Germans)...27-0
Colorflood (Heaven's Kitchen) def. Busch Gardens: The New World (Hurricanes)...14-10

    1. Reservoir Dogs (4-1…...71.9%)
    2. Heaven’s Kitchen (4-1...…50.3%)
    3. Hurricanes (3-2…...53.7%)
    4. Replacements (2-3…...50.7%)
    5. RevoLLutionists (2-3…...47.6%)
    6. Flying Germans (0-5…...24.4%)

And with that, the regular season is complete. It has truly been a great year and everyone is appreciative of all the work that went into the parks by the builders, admins, and release team. Surely the postseason still has some truly incredible work to be seen. But until then, here’s some random bits of information from the season:

This was the first season without a single trade

The Hurricanes went 3-0 against unfinished parks, but were 0-2 against complete ones.

The Replacements only faced 1 unfinished park all season

Of the 30 submitted parks, only 8 were unfinished (most of them only partially)

3 of those unfinished parks came from the Flying Germans

There were 2 shutouts this season, more than the previous 5 H2H seasons combined

Heaven’s Kitchen enters the playoffs on a 4-match win streak

Replacements enter on a 3-match losing streak

The Replacements used more 1K Ruins objects than any team in H2H history

Weekly vote counts: One (186), Two (112), Three (102), Four (72), Five (85)

K0NG and RCTNW’s combined age is equal to the combined ages of myself, Comet, Goliath123, In:Cities, and JDP

The Siege of Jerusalem was Louis!’s first winning H2H park (he’s now 1-4 overall)

Parks with one-word names had a record of 4-2

Parks with names 3 words or longer went 4-6

Round Four’s combined vote counts of the winning vs. losing teams was 68-4

The Flying Germans received a grand total of 3 votes in the final 3 rounds

Reservoir Dogs vote total without their Round 2 defeat: 119-17...…87.5%

After week one, Heaven’s Kitchen was in last place. Each round, they have increased their place in the standings

Team Kumba will complete the threepeat

Loved this, this is why I love H2H. Very nice read dude. P.S, Heaven's Kitchen only faced one unfinished park all season, too.

Good read bud. Good luck to all teams in the post season.
  • Fisch%s's Photo
    Great read.

    Replacements faced
    r1: Kumba
    r2: Robbie
r3: Li Jang one of the top parks of this H2H
r4: Atlantis = one of the best RD parks
r5: Jerusalem, one of the best LL parks of all time

    How ridiculous is that?!
No wonder we have a 3 match losing streak. It's incredible we even still made it...sadly our only unfinished park had bad timing.

I'm intrigued... Assuming there were still 34 votes... how many people would have had to vote for The Seige instead of the New Fantasyland in that last round so that the Revs would have made it through instead of the Replacements? It can't have been many...

Amazing read man, I knew when you signed up for review author that you'd be a good one!

It literally came down to 2 votes, if they had gotten 2 more votes (so 36 had been cast) they would have gone through. So by that I assume if they had gotten one more of the actual votes, meaning we'd have got one less, that they would have gone through then too.

Thanks for doing this :) And thanks for mentioning that I'd finally broken my H2H losing streak! :D

out of boredom, i confirmed my suspicions on this nice little fact

In all 15 Round Robin matches, the first vote went to the winning park

and when voting closes on semi-final 1, that trend will move to 16 straight parks. Thus showing, the first vote is usually the voice of NE...hehe, let the trend continue!
