RCT Discussion / The points system

The hall of fame provides an objective way to see who the best players on this website have been. The only reasonable argument against it would be that it's not the correct way. If you want to be the best, then be the best.As I already pointed out I don't pay attention to the Current Ranks system too much. And to stay on the Current Ranks system for a prolonged period of time you'd have to have more than 2500 points anyway.
But on the Hall of Fame, I would say getting those 2500 points is a lot more achievable than getting the 7500 points or so needed to break into the top 5, yeah.
The park maker section was dropped for a reason. at any given time, you'd have only 5 of 20 park makers actually still playing, let alone releasing parks. All it really meant was a sometimes dedicated page for some of the higher profile players to show case their work--a feature already built into the new forums for every member. Trust me when I say that this topic was discussed at length when the point system was rolled out, and I still stand by my opinion that it's a feature we're better off without. -

to be honest I don't really care about the points system whereas having the parkmaker status back really would be great. -

NOTE I'M NOT KNOCKING THE ADMINS OR PANELISTS, just would really like that 15th vote to come in sometime soon since it's been three weeks...
You're welcome -

Even as a former parkmaker, I believe the current system is more effective than the parkmaker system. While the past system awarded those who often times had one or two flashy releases, the current system rewards those who have a consistent output and strong work ethic. Sure the points system isn't perfect but small improvements would be much more effective than scrapping the entire system.
Maybe a good feature would be a section for people to post their own top lists for current and overall parks and parkmakers, and have other users "upvote" them so the most popular or interesting ones are at the top. This would also allow creation and discussion of interesting lists, such as best park of a certain theme, best coaster design of a certain type, best releases by a certain parkmaker, etc.
tl;dr what I'm saying is that the ranking process should be interactive and part of the fun of the site, as opposed to being a way to say in the absolute who is "The best". -

Keep the point system. It clearly took a shitload of work to create for the site and there is no reason to take it away.
What is needed is a reward system for lower levels. Your not just going to join NE and have a chance to overtake anyone high up in the HoF. Even doing it on the current rankings is not easy. How about...
1,000 points = invite to join the accolade panel
3,000 points = you get added to a new user group with the ability to delete your own posts and lock your own topics, like NE Parkmakers had way back when
5,000 points = an invite to be an NE mod or maybe have your own forum on the site.
I don't know if the admins would agree with all that, but some more carrot at the end of NE's stick would be nice. -

^ I like the first two. Maybe 5000 could get the "Featured" page or something, but usually parkmakers don't produce stuff too often. At least that's how it's seemed in the past... -

I like the ideas you have Kumba, but if it's going to be an awards based system, then I think it should only count the points that come from accolades. You still would get points for a failed submission, but they don't add towards getting any of the awards you mentioned (or whatever else). Otherwise someone could churn out one failed design/ park after another (yours truly) and still have enough points to be considered a 'parkmaker'. Now that I think about it, you could have people who make a lot of designs earn a 'designer' title after so many design wins and/or points and have 'parkmaker' be gained by points gained from parks and/or getting a spotlight. -

Yeah, maybe 3 Designs to become a Designer, and either 3 Silvers or Golds(or a combination) or a Spotlight to become a Parkmaker. So:
Designer= 3+ Design wins
Parkmaker= 3 Golds/Silvers
1 Spotlight -

Haha, I agree with this. It's nearing 2 months and I have 5/15 votes. -

Yes. Nobody uses WW and or TT around here. I'm not even sure 15 active panelists have them installed right now. -
Fizzix Offline
Nothing you can do about you're current park, but uninstall WW/TT, and don't use scenery from those packs in any other projects. -

Btw, this is what I wrote in the H2H general topic:Yes, I've been thinking about this too for a while, and I think bringing back the Parkmaker status has its pros and cons. What is holding it back for me though, is the inactivity issues previous NE Parkmakers had when chosen to be a NE Parkmaker.
What I think would be really a cool idea and could potentially bring back a ton of activity and an interesting long term site feature is kind of a featured parkmaker status. With that I mean that the park the Parkmaker is constructing gets a special page, where progress can be found and which could have cool features such as how many map data objects are currently in the park for example. I'll sketch it out in a seperate topic later on, but at least for me it would be very interesting and I'm sure for people who want to follow his favorite parkmaker too.
In order to become a "featured parkmaker" you have to win a Spotlight, to ensure you have the quality.
I don't necessarily think the point system is bad; I think it's very good and rewarding.
The site just need some exclusive feature like I mentioned above..
edit; to make it more clear, I got this idea kinda from the Sim City Journals on Simtropolis: http://community.sim...rina-dampuglia/
If the admins are interested in this idea I can sketch it out more via pm or something.. -

I think going on points alone is enough. Because of the multiplier there is a HUGE disparity between parks that win the accolade and parks that do not. If your parks consistently fail, that means about 50 points per on average (assuming high). That's 20 parks. So while it's certainly possible, I doubt it would realistically be a problem. You could also just have the promotions on a case-by-case basis. Just have the staff review your points upon a new accolade and decide to flip the switch. -

Why fix something if it's not broke? The points system is amazing. After H2h I know I'm shooting for a shitload of more designs to get into the top 10. -

Six Frags, I was just thinking, even 3 Silvers is a lot of work, but I wasn't around during the Parkmaker status, and if that's not enough, I don't think 3 Golds is unreasonable. -
Ling Offline
Standards were different back then. You can't even really compare the parks that won Spotlight and Design six years ago to the stuff today. -

Parkmaker spots were only given to those who won Spotlight or the non-parkmakers who placed highest in contests.
They were not given to people who consistently won runner-ups (Equivalent to gold)/super runner-ups (Equivalent to >80% but not enough spotlight votes).
