Just to get this out of the h2h topic.
Please discuss whether you think it would be right to get rid of the points system of New Element and bring in a different feature.
I personally would really dislike the points system being taken away as I (like Cocoa and other people) regularly look at it a lot and work to get higher and higher. It also introduces a no bullshit approach as they are the facts of the forum right in front of us and not only do they encourage me to work when a park is tough but it's good to see the rising stars of the moment when they release a design and get their name on the board.
Also with the panel deciding how to score a park I think it is only fair to reward a player for an amazing park. Posix I believe you've set up a system which is that amazing that you shouldn't get rid of it. I believe you and Gee really did revolutionise how this site works and you brought the new site up to date with the current trend of the community.
If anything I believe our next main drive for the site is just putting New Elements name out there on gaming sites to encourage more people to join the forum as we've never really done this. I believe with more people and more releases the ranking system would start to work better than it has done as of late. -

I agree with JK here.
IMO the point system works quite well as it is, getting rid of it would be a step in the wrong direction.
It's a good way to get a more or less automatized standing of the skill and activity of the users.

I do believe the point system is good and I really like it as it motivates me in one way or another..
I do would like to see some thing added instead of removed, like the parkmaker status or something like that, like a more personalised parkmaker page for the top 25 hall of fame players made by a reviewer or something like that -

That is right. At least for me. The point system works well and is a good way to keep the players motivated.I personally would really dislike the points system being taken away as I (like Cocoa and other people) regularly look at it a lot and work to get higher and higher. Thats a point I can see room for improvement. The idea to see a panel of experienced players voting your park is good, but what do the numbers tell me? I think RcT is all about improving yourself and a community like NE should be a platform to show your projects in order to get critics etc. on it, so you´re able to improve! But this is actually not happening anymore on NE. I can understand, that all the rct & rct2 gods out their in the forums are too busy to give some help to the new/not that good players, but if they dont do it, they have to wait much longer for a new "rising star" or what ever. I would like to see the voters (all of the involved) make a comment on the submissions they vote for. It´s better to read a short comment why the voter voted as low/high as he did than seeing a dissapointing number on a scoreboard. The "RcT-World"-voting system was pretty good I think and to see that on NE combined with the panellist would help the players a lot I think. Also with the panel deciding how to score a park I think it is only fair to reward a player for an amazing park. Posix I believe you've set up a system which is that amazing that you shouldn't get rid of it. I heard a active youtube-channel showing the newest releases etc. would help a lot getting new membersIf anything I believe our next main drive for the site is just putting New Elements name out there on gaming sites to encourage more people to join the forum as we've never really done this. And I would do it if I´m allowed to -

Like JK said I am a huge fan of the point system. Why fix what ain't broke?
A few other ideas that I and others tossed out couuld definitley be added though, like an additional average of your scores next to your points and also a parkmaker page that is more interactive and customisable.
I've thought before about what would happen if we sent some pics and whatever to sites like IGN and others. I'm pretty positive they would be stunned and post an article linking here. But it also worries me that maybe the site could get opened up to trolls and all the other douchebags who lurk around sites like those . On one side I love seeing the community grow and get as big and lasting as possible, but I also like the small personal atmosphere around here.
^also, good idea about the youtube channel, although it might be a pain to manage.
In a slightly seperate topic, if the admins every needed more money to manage the site, I would be OK with some banner ads. themeparkreview has them, and pretty much every popular website. and especially for such a cause as making this site prosper, I would very much not mind.
anyway, I sort of just turned this into a "what I think could make NE better" sort of post. but whatever, I like the points system -

I would like to see some sort of member title system, similar to the post titles on other sites. Say a member has 0 points, their title could be "Design Applicant" or something along those lines, while people with really high point values such as 1,000 could be "Professional Park Maker" or something like that. There would be some sort of title for each point range (say, 0-300, 300-600, etc.). This is just an idea though, obviously things would be tweaked in the case that a title system is added. -

Yeah, I like the ranks idea. I also like the average score idea, maybe split up into Design and Spotlight categories. Bringing back the parkmaker status would be great, too.
I look at the rankings and the Hall of Fame regularly, as well. I like to see who I will overtake with my next release; it gives me another reason to build. -

I'd have to agree with all of these statements so far especially the one about making sure judged comment on the submissions they voted on as my last and only 2 submissions only had a comment by 1 judge. Makes it very hard for me to understand why they voted how they did and help me learn what I need to improve on. -

Good to see someone else who is pissed about that, too... -

I think for those who are high up the point system, whether it be current rank or hall of fame, will see the benefits to the points system.
However, for someone like me who has practically none, the points system doesn't make me want to release anything. Reinstating something like the 'Parkmaker' status makes it easier for newcomers/people with low points to get involved with the competitiveness. -

Why doesn't the point system motivate you to release something to get more points? It does for me and apparently a lot of other players with lower points and less releases. -

Because I've got a long way to catch up to get noticed points-wise.
But hey, I haven't released anything and I've been around for like 10 years anyway sooo -

Not really, I mean, one solid accolade could land you in the top 5 pretty easy. -

I guess so in the Current Ranks, but I don't pay attention to those at all so maybe that's why they just don't appeal to me.
I dunno, I just preferred the feeling of the parkmaker status. It really meant you'd made it in the Rct Community.
I think the best option would be a mix of the two. Say everyone who accumulates over 2500 points including 1 Spotlight gets a parkmaker spot which has some sort of privilege. -

So making it on the point system, where so few people are submitting right now that you could be in the top five with one or two decent releases is too hard. But accumulating 2500 points is more achievable to you? ...What? -
Ling Offline
There are plenty of submissions coming in, the reviewing process just takes forever. At least that's what it seems like.
NOTE I'M NOT KNOCKING THE ADMINS OR PANELISTS, just would really like that 15th vote to come in sometime soon since it's been three weeks... -

As I already pointed out I don't pay attention to the Current Ranks system too much. And to stay on the Current Ranks system for a prolonged period of time you'd have to have more than 2500 points anyway.
But on the Hall of Fame, I would say getting those 2500 points is a lot more achievable than getting the 7500 points or so needed to break into the top 5, yeah. -

Ling, generally a release will take about two weeks, it's just taking longer now because of H2H6.
