Why? I think Germany has a very sympathetic team. Of course I want The Netherlands to win, but if we don't make it to the finals, I wouldn't mind Germany winning at all. As long as it's not Spain. They are good for sure, but it would be boring if they won everything three times in a row. I think Germany stands a good chance this year.
because for a example when i see the complete fuckhead neuer standing in the goal isrepresenting my country, then that wont work for me. mostly because in the general football time (bundesliga) most of the players play in the wrong team und how can i cheer for someone that i hoped to lose 4 weeks ago? same in champions league final. here in germany most of the people were for bayern because they say, when it comes to international matches im always for the german team. but that wont work for me. the antipathy for these teams and their players is too high to cheer for them. on another note, our bundestrainer has a VERY strange way to nominate players, not really taking the best always. -

Would anyone fancy a poule? Where like members fill in the scores they think are gonna happen, an dthat thing gives you points for everything and when the season is over the person who was closest to how the actual EC happened wins. -

I'm in a poule at Voetbalpoules.nl. Plan to make a specific poule for The New Block. Join us and join the poule. -

Joined Trav. Can't say I'm overly hopeful of England's chances, I predict a Germany-Netherlands final. -

A Germany-Netherlands final would be sick.
Although this may sound like treason, I think Germany will win this time. -

man tolsimir i dont say this often because we get along quite well but i think your opinion is bullshit this time around. (not only in regards to the Euro but also in regards to the UCL final)
I agree with Liam that our players are quite likeable and if you were to just look past your hate for Neuer and instead look at the greater good that a German victory would bring for the country, and for the whole atmosphere in Germany by uniting us, and giving us back some kind of pride finally, you would in my opinion do a step in the right direction.
Think about it...all the happiness, the drinking, the fun, the drugs, the sex that a victory would bring!
We NEED it, and it in my opinion we deserve it too.
Since 2009 Germany has been playing amazing football and this generation of players we have right now is something that we don't get too often.
Our playing style is fast, it's technical, it's exciting, and we still have those old German attributes of working hard and delivering on the big stage when it comes to football. How much better is that than the old boring lucky shitty playing style we used to have?
Nowadays we create a bunch of new talented players every season because about 12 years ago we made a change for the better. Every German first and second division club has boarding schools where they help kids with school and improve their footballing skills. Every club has to put up with big financial limitations because in Germany we keep the competition fair. Clubs have to be run financially stable without making minus. Investors aren't allowed in the league. We're also pushing for financial fair play in all of Europe and are trying to stop the rise in huge wages across Europe so that the money can instead be used for greater issues than sports. The Bundesliga has the second highest attendance of any sports league in the world.
Yet aside of the incredible improvement that German football and its structure have both achieved we have yet to be rewarded for it.
Since 2002 we've experienced (at least) 9 heartbreaking moments
02 UCL final
02 UEFA CUP final
02 World Cup final
06 World Cup semis (lost in last minute of extra time)
08 Euros final
08 Europa League final
10 UCL final
10 World Cup (after amazing display (4:1 vs England, 4:0 vs Argentina) we lost 1:0 to Spain yet again like in 08)
12 UCL final
We work so hard, and do so well up until the final. Yet every time we're up there on the biggest stage there is, we seem to be incredibly unlucky or just choke.
8 times heartbreak, not once a reward, not once have we won something since Bayern's UCL victory 2001.
It is fucking time and players like Schweinsteiger deserve to have won something big in their active career.
But not only the players need it but also the nation as a whole does.
If we don't win this thing I'll feel so empty yet again...can't take it anymore. So close but so far.
Having said all that...go Germany!
Euros 2012, come on baby, I'm up for it, will be watching every game hopefully. -

NO IT ONLY ENDED UP THAT WAY BECAUSE OF OUR DISALLOWED GOAL THAT WAS A GOAL. IF THAT GOAL HAD BEEN GIVEN THE OUTCOME OF THE MATCH COULD HAVE BEEN VERRRRY DIFFERENT. -

Sure. It's a fact that Germany is superior to England, because Germany plays good football and England does not. -

We beat Spain not too long ago. When was the last time Germany beat Spain?
are you actually serious with your opinion about the game?
Sure it would've been the equalizer and obviously it would've made a difference but it was just sheer luck anyway. I watched bbc analyses of the game MANY times on youtube and all your "pundits" agreed about the fact that Germany deservedly won and said that aside of the disallowed goal England was lucky to only concede 4.
Now if you wanna be bitter about the fact that you guys lost to us deservedly then so be it but it doesn't change the fact that Germany displayed the best footy in that tournament. We scored 4 against you guys, against Argentina, and against Australia, and another 3 against Uruguay.
But to be honest I don't even know if you're really bitter that England lost that game...because if I was you I'd just generally be mad at the way England played in that tournament as a whole.
Also it's no shame to lose against the best team in the world and it's not that incredible to beat them in a friendly. If you can do that again at the Euros, then we can talk. I don't care when the last time was that we beat Spain. But if I was English I would care about the fact that England hasn't had a game where they played good football in ages. -

I am pretty bitter about the fact that England lost the game, especially seeing as though it was against Germany who English people class as their biggest rivals in the world (Not just in football), but that's because I watch the English game, in which come backs in games are more common than just outright winners (By that I mean that teams will come back from like 2 - 0 down to winning 3 - 2 than will win outright by like 4 - 0 or 5 - 0) so I honestly believe that if that goal was allowed then we would have had a strong chance of winning. I'm not disagreeing that Germany definitely outclassed us in that game, and that England are pretty much a shit team technically, but when we want to we can produce results.
All I'm saying is don't completely underestimate us. Whilst I don't think we'll win, I could definitely see us in the final 4. -
Fisch Offline
I never underestimated you, infact I never said anything about the English team at all (until now) aside of critizising your playing style. But as the UCL final has proven, an ugly playing style doesn't equal no success. Every team needs some luck and with the right luck anything can happen.
I rate your players but to be fair I don't think there's a real team spirit. The media always hypes you guys up to no end and when you have the likes of John Terry on your team it doesn't exactly make you very sympathetic.
But anyway, England is one of the great footballing nations and surely you always are around the circle of favorites.
Still I don't think that there ever really is such a thing as underestimation of the English team.
Before the game between England and Germany in 2010 infact it was your media who said that of the German players there'd probably at most be like 3 or 4 who'd even make the English squad. And your BBC pundits confirmed that. -

But that's because you've got a very young team, and if you haven't noticed with our team, approximately 75% of the team is over 2 centuries old. -
Fisch Offline
that's the thing i like about our team.
in 2010 it was young but still very talented with a lot of unknown players. the average age was a little below 25 years.
in 2012 our team is more experienced, better known, BUT even younger! Our average age this time is under 24 and the team is a lot better than the one in 2010.
Basically everybody on the pitch can now be replaced by players of the exact same quality!
I'm guessing our starting eleven to look like this:
---------------------Klose
--Podolski-----------Özil-------------Müller
---------Schweinsteiger-Khedira
--Lahm--------------------------------Boateng
-------------Badstuber--Mertesacker
---------------------Neuer
Personally I'd prefer Reus or Schürrle over Podolski, Kroos over Khedira, Lahm switched with Boateng, and Hummels for Mertesacker. But after all the successful years that we can look back at I'm sure Löw will get it right.
But in 2010 we had very little options coming off the bench. Nowadays our bench has the exact same quality as our starting eleven.
CF Klose = Gomez
LM Podolski < Schürrle
AM Özil > Götze (but only a little...götze is incredible)
RM Müller = Reus (but only because Müller is a lot better fot the national team. skillwise Reus is easily better)
CM Schweinsteiger =Kroos
CM Khedira = L. Bender < Gündogan
LB Lahm >> Schmelzer (the second fullback is our weakness. schmelzer only plays well for dortmund and boateng is a CB)
RB Boateng = Höwedes = L. Bender
CB Badstuber > Höwedes
CB Mertesacker < Hummels
GK Neuer > Zieler + Wiese
