RCT Discussion / 8cars and Windows 7

Having just recently built a new computer, I made the jump from Windows XP to Windows 7 (x64) - after wandering back into RCT2, I've noticed that 8cars works fine, but when I try to hit "Apply" or "OK" in the Edit Rides dialog box, 8cars crashes and nothing happens. I did some Googling (and since the NE search is down...) but no one seems to have a solution. So my question is, can I just not merge anymore? It's more than a little frustrating.

For reference I have tried running as Administrator, and both RCT2 and 8cars in every compatibility mode between Win98 and XP SP3 to no avail.

RCT + 8 Cars won't work on Windows 7 when you want to hack.

    For that you need this;

But instead of that VM program I described there, I would you recommand to follow these steps:

    Well, looky here.....it's fucking Ling.

It works for everything - staff modifications, park border alteration, and zero clearance - just not the ride menu. It's weird. Anyway, thanks Cena, reading through it now.

And why hello, K0NG. You're looking angry as ever.

Weird, my 8cars works fine with windows 7. But I think I have some premium edition or some shit. Can't you merge with son of beast? and you could probably do the 8cars map object manipulation merge in 8cars anyway. there's a tutorial for that somewhere around here...

I tried some basic stuff with SoB and just about everything seems to crash it. I'm not sure if it's a Windows 7 Ultimate thing, a 64bit thing, or even hardware related. I'm installing XP Mode now though, so hopefully that will solve just about everything (plus windowed mode sounds awesome - game's been out for nine years, about time we got it).

Make sure you use VM Ware player. If the most recent version gives you troubles installing, go back to version 3.1.5 (that worked for me about a week ago).

Oh, and its about 9.5 years old: http://en.wikipedia....oaster_Tycoon_2

Okay... I got XP Mode and VMware Player, but when I try to import XP Mode, it tells me I need to get the Standalone Converter. I found and installed that, now VMware Player is telling me to uninstall the Standalone Converter. I'm confused.

Yeah 8cars works for me, but SoB = nada. I'll try this trick as well....

If you can't get VM to work or don't want to get it, then this tutorial should work.

This is kinda strange... I've got Windows 7 and 8cars AND SoB work fine :???:

I tried that Louis, it crashes RCT2. Which is really weird, I've never seen a trainer crash RCT by itself.

People with Windows 7 Home Premium can't use XP mode. Like me.
Is there a way around this?

    hmmm...that is weird :/

Out of curiosity, is there any way to run XP Mode without the VMWare player? That's the only thing giving me grief.

Yeah, my 8 Cars seems to still work alright as well but I have some kind of premium edition because I got it through a software cooperative set up by the University and Microsoft, so that might have something to do with it.

Yeah, the windows native app for that, but that software is very bloated, slow and crashes often. Vmware player is better in case and its Unity mode is awesome. Just registrer and you get the free download.

I got the download, then it yelled at me to get some converter before it could run anything. So I got that then it told me something was wrong with the Converter so I should uninstall it. It was stupid. I tried running the Microsoft standard one and it gave me a graphics error when I tried to run RCT2. Looks like I'm just going to have to keep shipping parks back and for to my old WinXP laptop to do any fancy ride editing...

The VMWare Player installed fine. It was the addon it wanted me to use. And I did not see any other options.
