RCT Discussion / AD revival

There's just no major drive to build stuff anymore, and I don't see it greatly reviving itelf without some community-wide event/reason. You could say this drive wouldn't be needed since we all just "build for ourselves", but if we did that then why does this site even exist?
I originally came here to get better at the game, throwing in a bit of competition to better myself and come out on top. I feel like I've done that (maybe not the very top, but you get me). That feeling of competition is gone and therefore I simply don't feel as though I need to play. If I want to be creative or competitive I now choose to do other things as RCT can't seem to satisfy either at the time being. -

i think we need another comp or a group park.
im all for a group park. let everyone work on it.
all we need is someone to gift us a lush landscape on a 140 map.
what do you lot think? -

Turn unfinished parks into group parks. New group parks are doomed. I'll say it again: turn unfinished parks into group parks.

yes but i dont think its doomed though iff we have 10+ builders. im serious about this, hell i might even make the landscape soon. -

highroll3r, the biggest problem with group projects is coordinating the building process. And, it's literally impossible to coordinate inspiration. So, the more people involved, the harder it is to get it into the hands of whoever's motivated and inspired to build at any particular time. Then you have three or four people that are initially pumped up to build... but, by the time it gets to them, they've lost motivation and so on. I wish you the best of luck...but, I'm gonna agree with Turtle. Although Liam's idea isn't bad at all and would probably be the best way to go if you're gonna try this. -

What if we could have a park divided neatly and somewhat equal into smaller sized areas. Therefore, it will be easy to finish whatever work you have to do and the entire project will go by quickly. -

Last time that didn't really work out, Jag. The organization was perfect though.
True, but it wasn't very strict. We could have a time limit of 2 weeks per person, if they do not finish, notify, or send to the next person, they'll be skipped. -

I'm sure the best way to boost activity and motivation is to hold a contest. And let's not forget about the 2011 awards (which i'm sure alot of people haven't and are probably prepping for backstage while I write this sentence). -

On a German rct board they created a youtube channel for rct2 and advertised for the forums with that.
Maybe we should do something similar to get some fresh new talent. I think the community needs to make sure that there's always a good amount of new people signing up and participating. So maybe the people who really want the community to stay alive could do something similar here. I mean we all want the community to stay alive obviously but we gotta take action before it's too late. Plus with the brilliant site layout and features that were added since Posix and Gwz took over we have more than enough to offer here. We just gotta advertise! -

KONG, your right. i didnt think of that. if i had a surge of inspiration and someone els had the file id be fucked. maybe a few collaboration designs can work? i want to work with others so much as i never have done before.
fisch, yeah thats a good idea. you tube has so many visitors. its the perfect place to advertise to recruit new members. i was playing rct for atleast 2 years before i came across NE. though i wasnt very good until i joined. i think if ne has a YT channel itll certainly impress a few people interested in designing. i dont have knowlege about creating sites/running them etc. -

Yes. A contest is all we need.
And look what I made. Spotlights, Golds, Silvers, Bronzes, Designs and other official releases* per year.
As you can see, contests (under Misc.) have always contributed a lot. And it leads to more activity. Look what H2H5 did with the site! Although I have to admit I excluded Micro Madness because only half of the entries was actually good and the maps are so small. Otherwise 2007 and 2008 would have huge dips, though those weren't NE's best years exactly. In my experience. 2009 was wonderful!
*excludes Quest for the Best, Legend's Challenge, Micro Madness, H2H2, H2H and Pro Tour Prelims -

What the fuck was everyone doing in 2006?!
I agree that contests lead to increased productivity... They get old names involved, younger names more involved, and unfinished parks for contests often get finished later on for designs or golds. I'm sure there will be an H2H later this year, but for now the best thing everyone can do is finish their other parks before this happens!
