RCT Discussion / TPR "General NE Discussion" Topic

So, this thread was split off to contain a discussion I've gotten into with a Games mod over on TPR. Basically, the gist of my arguement is that NE is not an elitist site full of pretentious fucks, but a community still rallying around quality in RCT releases. We're not seen as the best of the best for nothing!

Does anyone who is both a TPR and a NE member care to help me explain why NE's still a good site?

Don't make me our only PR person!

NE is a great site because they give lots and lots of feedback, instead of just saying "Awesome!" Another reason is that NE gives logos and a write-up if you win a award, so it inspires you kinda.

I can give a word as a NE newbie, considering I've been around at TPR for a while.

I guess what annoys me is that NE is constantly seen in a bad light by a lot of people over there, when we're no worse than any other gaming site. Besides, those who are posters on both sites very rarely have issues; the ones complaining are people who don't even post here.

Being a Mod now over at TPR, I too dislike when are members have this mindset. The issues comes with the comfort zone that some members are over there, and the fact that TPR is not really a game board, it's not taken as seriously as it can be over here. There is no problem with that, but being ignorant about the unknown is quite pretentious, and from time to time, TPR needs the reminder that there's nothing wrong with NE.

Hmmmm maybe as admin I should join up and answer some of the queries.

Why aren't we going to use the LOIC on TPR? It worked for PayPal and Mastercard :p

As an admin at New Element I felt that I should explain what we are about.

Some would say we are elitist, and to a certain extent, we are, but that doesn't mean we are egotistical and aren't friendly.

Our slice of the RCT Community does indeed pride itself on producing quality releases, but we also pride ourselves on having a large number of members from every corner of the world, all at different skill levels, all playing the game for fun, all posting feedback on each other's parks. This is what we are about, this is what we are here for, to be a large, friendly forum dedicated to the game.

Certain aspects of our site can be portrayed as elitist, because at one point in our 10 year history that is what we considered ourselves to be, but time moves on, and whilst our ambitions and goals change, our history becomes tradition, so things stay the same, which is the reason behind our 'policies'.

Throughout our history we have awarded parks of high standard with acolades, which have changed over the years but currently reside as Bronze, Silver, Gold, Spotlight & Design. This is the backbone of our site. We feel that by awarding acolades and points, we aren't creating an elitist attitude, but rewarding those who clearly have skill in the game. This provides a lot of members with inspiration and aspiration, therefore improving their own abilities so that they themselves can recieve an acolade.

The reasoning behind not allowing previously released parks to be given an acolade is because of the effort our members put in to providing each release with a full scale aerial, a website banner, a logo and a park review. All of which take time from our volunteers.

It doesnt state anywhere on our site that people can't release their park anywhere else after, and those that don't want to recieve an acolade have every right to post their release anywhere else before NE.

We aren't against TPR in anyway whatsoeverr, we are one community at the end of the day, just split over several sites, it would be great to see TPR members joining NE just as its great to see NE members here at TPR.

I would like to stress to everyone, that before judging our site on what we seem to be, join up and find out for yourself what we are about. We are simply a free to join forum dedicated to celebrating one of the best PC games of all time.

    Louis!

Very eloquent. I hope that can help others understand what this site is about. We welcome with open arms, as long as you use proper forum etiquette.

Coupon's right, this is a website chock-full of experts and masterminds at rct2 and LL. The main reason why I love this website so much is that instead of being worshipped by everyone with one good comment every 20 posts, you actually get quality feedback (from a quality website) on a regular.

With all do respect, I get very little motivation to continue my work on TPR. But with NE when I posted the link to my thread in the dump place, I people gave me good advice and constructive criticism. Members here can relate when I say that when you get feedback that tells you something is wrong, or many things need changes, it helps you to work harder and do better. Without feedback, you would miss out on great improvements and the betterment (if that's a word) of your overall work.

With TPR, they don't take rct anywhere near as seriously, and I respect that. But here, it's all about rct day in and day out... Plus the accolade system is one of the many factors that motivate me and most others to go on... But at TPR, you just submit a park, and all there is after that is the park, a screen, and the rating... The end.

It all boils down to the fact that they are a theme park site first and foremost, and we are a RCT site first and foremost; you can't expect the same audience and similar results from two sites with two completely different target groups.
  • djbrcace1234%s's Photo
^ exactly--you get what you get.
  • Louis!%s's Photo
Hopefully people will realise that the once 'elitism' of NE has since departed and has left a traditional yet respectful and knowledgable community in it's place.

To be honest, It's just kids that could care less that make this big assumption so vulgar sounding.

It's just the preference of how some just play the game.

Some play out of fun (Like RD, for example.)

Some play to create something new. (Like me)

Some play because they don't like RCT3 (:p)

Some even play because they don't have no limits!

And with that, because TPR can be so laid back, there is no pressure to change that "lifestyle."

I came to NE to better my playing style, and with this new park, and all the critiques, I've gotten a lot better!

this conversation is fucking stupid. we're two completely different sites serving a different purpose. with that being said if TPR wants to hate on us and call us an elitist website, then good let them think that. anyone who wants to call us out because they dont agree with the way we do things can go fuck themselves. i truly hope i am a prime example of why we get haters from TPR becasue NE's the shit

Jdp is right,NE is what it is because it's 'elitist'. Elisitist is the wrong word for it I think though. Enthusiasts would be more appropriate.
This is the sole reason I still visit NE after ten? years and im sure its the same for many other members.

There's never been any competition, and if there has the members have been here as well or joined here

    lol @ K0NG's comment.

Seriously though, what's so intimidating? Worst case scenario you get a horrible scoring accolade submission, but plenty members rebound from it and submit more of them. Or K0NG could put you on his hit list, that's about it.
  • nin%s's Photo
I don't think here was the place to put that comment, dirt. Might want to re-post that over there.
  • Jaguar%s's Photo
Actually, I wouldn't entirely disagree with K0NG's statement. I was an annoying newbie and I never had any real problems with him.
  • Comet%s's Photo
The only two things I got out of his argument is that he's jealous that some parks are in the NE Database and not put in the TPR exchange as well, and that he gets his feelings hurt by an internet forum by people he doesn't even know

Some people get upset with criticism then quit and some people take it and improve- those are the people we have at NE
