Ask the Experts / New Computer and RCT2

I am eventually going to purchase a new computer. Probably an XPS Desktop from Dell. It comes with Windows 7. Does RCT 2 work with Windows 7? Or how would I go on with installing the game?

RCT2 works on Windows 7, but several 8Cars functions aren't working.

VMWare Player - Windows XP Mode - VMWare Tools - Set your shared folders - Install RCT (by copying the disk to the HDD) - Play RCT without RCT on your XP machine. 8Cars and others can be located in your shared folders.

Will that slow down my computer? Because Im going to use it for college also.
  • Cena%s's Photo
It will slow your computer down, but only when you play RCT2 on the virtualized Windows XP. After you are done playing, you shut down VMWare player and your pc is normal again.

What would it do it I just installed it onto the computer? Any defects?

    What did you install?

    VMWare player?

    He means RCT2. I think.

Anyway. VM is pretty much the only option if you plan to do any hacking. Try VMware (previously mentioned) or Oracle VirtualBox. Obviously you have to have the full version of a Win XP edition for this to work.

I kept a copy of my Windows XP pro, so when i get a new computer, I just format the Hard Drive and install XP pro. works like a charm.

^or that if you don't want to keep any of 7/Vista's (albeit bloated) new features.

I want the windows 7, but will the VMWare player effect my school work?

    ^VmWare is as Computerception.

It is a computer in your computer. You can turn it off as a normal computer in the start menu though you have to start it through vmware. When you are using the computer it explains itself a lot.

About the slowing down. You have to look at like when you play a computer game, if you start it and then go do other stuff while the game is still on it will slow it down. but when you shut the game down you will barely notice it's on your computer.

Chorkiel explains it correct except that it won't effect your windows 7 machine when you are NOT running the VMWare player.

    So.

    Normal Windows 7 works fast.
Normal Windows 7 + VMWare Player + XP works slower (although only a bit)
after that, you just go back to, normal windows 7 again.
  • chorkiel%s's Photo
^well, that was kinda what I meant.
Your explanation was way clearer though ;p

Small question... i reinstalled RCT2, and suddenly all entrances show up when I download a NE park... Before the reinstall these entrances and exits weren't there? Same goes for shops etc, everything that was hacked suddenly shows up.

Tyrant I think you had rct modified before and haven't installed that now.
