RCT Discussion / RCT Timeline

You can view what I currently have here

    My current outline:

    1999 – RCT is out
    2000 – LL released
    2002 – NE goes online
    2002 – RCT2 is released
    2003 - RCT2 WW
    2004 - RCT3 released
2004 – Euroscape, object data limit
2005 – Mala wins $100 in hi rollers
2006 – Emergo becomes first and only female NE Parkmaker
2010 – NE4 is lunched with EPWS and ground breaking new features like db
2010 – Kumba is first release to break 90% and sparks rec trend
2011 – Spotlight Dreamport sets new and current AP score record

Please let me know if you can think of anything you think should be added, tho I don't want it to get to huge. Still looking for dates on things like the object editor and 8Cars, also have not checked all the dates above yet, so some may be a bit off.

This is part of my RCT Documentary class project.

    hehe. Not bad.

For 2009 you can add "Largest rct2 project in RCT History launched"

    Just kidding of course
  • nin%s's Photo
I would mention Danimation, as NE somewhat spawned from that.
  • RCTNW%s's Photo
if this is being used outside the community, don't use acronyms such as LL or NE
  • Jaguar%s's Photo
Maybe the creation of 8-cars should be mentioned, many people don't know it, but Ja227 may be possibly the most influental and important person in RCT next to its designer.
  • Midnight Aurora%s's Photo
A limited list, but one that includes Kumba's personal accolades of course.
  • posix%s's Photo
    of course.

Also, someone hit the data limit in LL at RCTStation in like 2001-2002. So you're already off.

Generally speaking though, I love timelines. They nicely capture the development of a field and often easily let you group things together from trends to paradigm shifts, etc.
  • Liampie%s's Photo
Personally I wouldn't add these to the timeline, but I think the invention of the 1/4 building block and geewhzz' invisibility hack are two of the most important innovations in rct.
  • BelgianGuy%s's Photo
I agree with Liampie on this part, also CP6 launching WWAP and creating a trend of realism along with other players who build in this style, the joining of the korean players is also something special I think
  • robbie92%s's Photo
I think the PTs should be mentioned, or the H2Hs. You also forgot RCT2TT on your list, but it's pretty forgetable as an expansion regardless.

I think part of the issue here is that you're doing a timeline for RCT but focusing only on NE. Despite what you may think, we're not the only RCT site around, so highlighting only our acheivements isn't indicative of RCT as a whole.

I'm not really sure because I started to become active around the time Watkins was released, but I know the hardcore realism trend had started earlier and I think it was Kayte Ridge.

Maybe first Rct2 custom object (Stan from Southpark)? Though I think it was only a few months after the game came out.
  • Kumba%s's Photo
    Hows this look?

I think it's alright, just im stuck on what might be RCT history in 2007, 2008 and 2009 which is one big ugly gap... might look into hacks that were done back then, also when codex was released...

I would add 4-7 of the other "great" parks to the timeline (possible list for older members to complain about: BGSS, ROB, WW, Zippo's, SFC) and the other expansion packs for all 3 games, even if most members here don't use/like them.
  • RRP%s's Photo
NE started prior to 2002 but there was a DB crash.I was one of the lowest registered members prior to the crash & re-register. If we're mentioning personal accolades you forgot to mention SWA being released in 2003 and subsequently being the longest #1 rated NE park (the list) of all time
  • Levis%s's Photo
Maybe some h2h history and pt history.
Also release of 8cars could be nice
Release of uces could be nice.
Maybe include rct modified or hex edit tuts and hack like a winhacker. Thrill lift maybe :p?
  • posix%s's Photo
Can it be done so that the timeline is editable cooperatively? Then people could add all these things themselves.

RRP is right. NE went live 18 Mar 2002:

New Element Opens to Public- "Welcome to New Element! The home of the greatest park makers and the new premier RollerCoaster Tycoon website in the world. Go check out the first EVER New Element Spotlight!! Five parks have already been hidden throughout the site as runner-ups to this amazing spotlight. 4 Weekly Designs are available, and all the Park Makers pages are up. Enjoy the revolution."

Kumba starting the recreation trend is a joke, most of the first RCT parks ever were recreations, dude.
