RCT Discussion / Spotlight Showdown Final

Which do you think is the better park?

  • trav%s's Photo
So according to this, PoM is better than IoE? What a load of bullshit...
  • Liampie%s's Photo
And according to this, Legacies is among the 8 strongest spotlights. Meanwhile, either Rivers of Babylon or The Aegean will be knocked out.
  • trav%s's Photo
If Zippo's beats Isole Calabria, I'm quitting RCT for good.
  • Liampie%s's Photo
    Fuck you, Zippo's is incredible.

I like Zippo's a lot, but I agree with Trav and don't think it is on the same level as Isole Calabria

I think it really has a lot to do with what date you joined. Older people, like me and inVersed, obviously like all the older parks, which I think have a much fuller atmosphere, much more deeply themed. Where as newer parks always seem shallower to me, I never get the feeling I used to when I open new spotlights.

    Deleted older douchy comment.

I wouldn't say it's about join date but more about your preferences. Some prefer newer detailed stuff, others prefer atmosphere most of all, others prefer coasters. Unfortunately, with the way the community progresses, stuff gets old quickly and tastes change, kinda like music. Classic rock vs. rap, classical vs. house, it all comes down to opinion, and general tastes change, which is why judging all of the spotlights is a difficult job to do completely objectively.

I may have joined in 2007, but I build stuff since early 2005, when it was still the norm to use walls and full tile roofs. I'm very much into older RCT, but sometimes the newer stuff is just better. Isole Calabria looks good, but Zippo's is much more original, credible, cohesive, it's bigger, more content, better foliage, much more atmosphere and life, and much more fun stuff like an area themed to faeces and junk. Moreover, IC doesn't have fish food.

This reminds me that I still have to do that review I promised Xophe.

I just posted screens in the Art Gallery of why I much prefer a park like IC to Zippo's
It has nothing to do with details or scenery pieces it's just that Turtle's composition of everything is simply better

In my opinion small details aren't what make a good park. When I'm looking through a park and I see an employee rest area I know that's where they take a smoke break I don't need to see them doing it. Or when I look at all the lamps I know the lightbulbs go out I don't need to see a mechanic on a ladder changing them. It's the overall atmosphere that matters to me

Details like those enhance the atmosphere for me, though. Sometimes it takes more than just nice foliage and good archy to make great atmosphere for me. Little things make it plausible beyond just a "model"; hell, IC has plenty of smaller things (ie shrines) that complete the picture. DisneyAir has moving pistons; sure, they could've been stationary, but kinetically, they add a new level of plausibility to the park. I guess that's what I enjoy most: plausibility. It doesn't need to be realistic, but it should be convincing.
  • Comet%s's Photo
I don't really see the similarity between shrines and pistons to the examples I used

Anyway, I kinda do look at RCT as a 'working model', which is why I don't add peeps. Rides and things such as water fixtures and pistons would also be kinetic in a model like this. I don't really try to build an 'open amusement park' so maybe that's why I look at things differently
