RCT2 & Windows 7 Home Premium

RCT2 & Windows 7 Professional

So I'm in the process of purchasing a new PC with Windows 7. I also know there are issues with the released version of Win7 and RCT2. I have a couple options and would like to see if others have been able to get it to work on other version of Win 7. In particular, Win7 Professional over Win7 Home Premium.

    Thanks

    James

    I have Vista and XP

    Vista= no merging
XP= every hack seems to work when I switch to this computer

I had windows 7 for a bit, and the game likes to crash on occasion..

^ Which version of Windows 7 did you own, Home Premium or Professional? There is a difference
  • Cocoa%s's Photo
I have "windows 7 enterprise" whatever the fuck that is so i voted under home premium. everything works fine, not like vista where the trainers didn't work.
  • Levis%s's Photo
    tried them all.
have to say for vista there is a difference. I believe the Premium version of vista has some problems with the trainers also.
but XP works fine, vista works fine. w7 rct2 and trainers give problems. rct2 gives prolems while using alt+tab, when you go back often it freezes or you get errors. in vista this problem started but was 1 in a 100 or so. in w7 its 1 in 2 or something like that.
My advice is if you use w7 to install a virtual machine and run rct2 on there.

I have windows 7 and rct2 constantly freezes up causing me to power down my computer. The problem seems to only be with some parks though, I had no problem viewing dreamport and some of my older stuff. So far I'm unsure whether it's related to 8cars, but I know that I can't raise or lower rides using it as well. Think this may be to do with a missing file though.
  • Levis%s's Photo
nope, the problem is known. still haven't found a solution, best way is to use a virtual machine.
the freezing for me happens when I alt+tab to windows and go back.

^I'm not sure if you can even give that a 'best'-tag..
I tried it once but it went so slow.. (was nice to have tried for at least once).
  • Cocoa%s's Photo
^^I forgot about the freezing thing, it happens pretty rarely though.

I dont notice any speed issues with VMware ...

Well, I looks like either dual partition boot with XP and Win 7 or VMware. Was hoping that win7 professional would hav been the result I was looking for but does not look like it..

Enterprise is a version of Ultimate edition that has the games disabled (but they can be used if enabled). Enterprise is only sold to large businesses.

Buy Professional. I have it on my PC, and what is cool is that on Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions, you can download a Microsoft program that is an XP virtual machine. Get Professional and then google search "Windows XP Mode".

On a 2nd note, on said Windows 7 Professional system, RCT LL runs fine in Windows 7, although you need to set the color scheme to Classic for Codex to work, and the Codex hex editor does not work (but I never use this anyways).

Hint! Maybe your pc doesn't have enough computer power to do that?
I have seen Levis his pc and that thing is a beast :p

Win7 Ultimate x32 and x64 won't do the trick either.

Well damn, my new laptop I'm on has Windows 7 Ultimate. So it looks like I will be doing my work on my old computer and transfer screens and such to post on this computer.

RCT2 and trainers work fine on my windows7 (although it does crash on occasion but no more than when i ran it on windows xp)... Not to mention I am running it on my macbook pro with bootcamp!
  • RCTNW%s's Photo
Well, it's looks like I’m fucked. I've tried everything I can think of as a workable solution and it's just not worth it.

    - RCT2 crashes on my Win7 machine and I have tried all kinds of various settings with no stability that I'm happy with or have accepted in the past with my old XP machine.
    - Can't install XP on my new PC (as a dual boot system) as I have a SATA Hard Drive and have tried several different techniques, after doing extensive research, and I get new errors during the install each time.
    - Cena's option for Windowed RCT2 is just too difficult to scroll with as its way too touchy and again, not up to the standards I'm used to with my old XP machine.

In short, there is just too much compromise I'm not willing to do in order to play the game. Between this and recent extreme lack of motivation, I'll move on to other things for the foreseeable future.

Thanks everyone for the info above. I just wish there was a stable solution to play RCT2 on win7. Perhaps someday there will be.

Who knows. Perhaps I'll move over the the dark side with RCT3!?!?

    Later all. :mantis:

That's heartbreaking to read James. Especially since RCT2 runs very stable on my win7 x64 ... :???:
