Ask the Experts / How Do I Merge Tracks?

  • 7Thumbs%s's Photo
I've seen lots of users on NE Who Have Managed To Merge Their Roller Coaster Tracks Together and make obejcts go through each other. I Am Simply Amazed about how pepole do stuff in this game but I don't know how to do it.
    Please Give Simple Advice

First off, welcome to NE...nice to have another member from down under. As for your question, there are dozens of topics here in which this is discussed...take your time, use the search function and read up on all the little tricks of the trade.

I've searched 10 of the pages and still can't find one about this. I'll just have to wait for my Hacking skills to bond. My sister ruined my rct2 Triple thrill pack disc and now I have to get a new one. :(

As you can see here,a segment of Coaster A (Giga) is dropped to track level to merge with the corkscrew, then Coaster B (Corkscrew) merges back to the giga with a similar process.

Just posted that yesterday. You'll need an 8cars per trainer version without the vord "Version" on the titlebar.

Yep. I have the newest v of 8 cars, no v listed in program (exept for icon). Thanks GigaG. I'll need more help if problems happen and push me off my track. :)

Don't get the triple thrill pack. Buy RCT2 without the expansions and buy the expansions seperately if you want them, otherwise you probably can't hack at all.

No you don't. I never use that one for merging. Your tutorial is not really the best way to merge too, in my opinion. This is much easier:

You only need to lower one trackpiece for a succesful merge, not three.

edit: I forgot to say: after you executed the merge, you can test if the merge worked by setting the Operating Mode to either Powered Launch or Boat Hire Mode. If the merge failed, both operating modes will react differently. With powered launch the train will crash, with boat hire mode your game will crash. Therefore I recommend to always use powered launch if you're not sure. If the merge was proven succesful in powered launch mode, you can change to boat hire mode anyway but this time without worrying about a possible error trapper.

Have you ever tried? Well the trpl thrill pack is $18 at Jb HiFi and getting both expantion packs and the game would cost me $35 there. and I'm a bit baffeld with your tutorial, So you use 8 carts to alow it to merge tracks, then after the merge the track must face the other way?. I dowloaded 8 cars from rct mart.

I don't, but others have. I'd say download the games; since you bought the games before so you're allowed to own the games right? I'm not an expert on piracy, this is just my interpretation.

My tutorial shows three different situations, not three steps.

The first image shows how the merge should look like if the train enters from the left.

The second image is the same as the first, just showing from another angle. Just to show how the merge is affected by the train's direction.

The third image shows how the merge should look like if the train travels in two directions (forwards and backwards).

So I Just Need To Merge The Track in one of these three ways? I'll Have A Go. I Couldn't find a working download for rct2 since 2008. When i get rct2 today I'll test out 8 cars on it, I'll let you know if it fails.

I have triple thrill pack, and it works fine. Not like gold in rct.

nevermind someone beat me to it, and theirs has pictures

And I'll give you the only way that I know how to do it and it actually works: map object manipulation (misc. tab under 8cars.)

    1. Build your ride forward up next to the track you want to merge onto, and put one of the abstract land tiles (it should be anything that is not used at all in your park) underneath the track you just built (the track you just built should be where the train is coming from)

    2. go into map object manipulation. select raise/lower, then height offset 4 (or 6 for inverted/flying coasters- but it really doesn't matter how high as long as it is over those numbers). then select ride track, then the land tile that you put under your track. finally, hit apply then ok.

    3. go back to your game- the piece you had just placed on the abstract land should be raised. build it one piece further (in the same type of piece as the one below it- although I'm pretty sure complex objects and 45 degree turns won't work). Then build the piece below it one step backward, so you should have two track pieces on top of each other. Finally, put abstract land under both those pieces.

    4. now this is the part where you actually have to think a little. in the options tab, set the height measurements to "units" instead of "real". Find the height that your raised section of track is on, and multiply that by two. then add 14 (this is given that your original height is above zero. if it below zero, subtract from 14 your downward height times by two. so if for example, your height is -2, the number you should get is 10). remember this number.

    5. go back to map object manipulation. select raise lower, then put as the height the negative as the number before, so probably -4 or -6 depending on your ride. select ride track, the abstract tile you used, and then as the height range, put the number you came up with in step 4 as the minimum (this was to ensure you only lower the higher piece of track)

If you did this right, the top track should be lowered onto the bottom track and you should have a clean merge.

    6. set the original ride (the one with a station) to "boat hire mode" and then test it!

I might copy this to an actual topic now... hope this helps! this method comes courtesty of carl, he taught it to me
