(Archive) Advertising District / Locust: RCT2 Sit Down Steel Twister

  • Wolfman%s's Photo

My first track design since the heart attack. (I actually wanted to practice on adding the B&M supports.)
The ratings are a bit high and I haven't had the opportunity to test this out in an operating park with peeps just yet.

I just made the discovery that it's best to use the angular supports for track at a minimum of 35 ft. or higher.
It seems that the shortest footer and the shortest angled sections, along with the concrete anchor block,
as well as the "track to support connector" I always use... seem to work out with a track that's 35+ ft.
And I think it's a good idea not to bring the track all the way down to the ground, leaving a 5 ft. clearance
for footers and concrete anchor blocks. I think it looks better and looks more realistic.

Also, I think it looks better if a support has no room for a concrete anchor block, to lower the land tile and
place a full tile building block as a concrete base, at grade (land height.) You can see that I did this in image #3.
I also used retaining walls to cover the vertical surfaces of the exposed dirt.

I know you probably won't take my advice, but on the first turnaround, I really like the idea, but I don't think the execution is there. Other than that, the layout is pretty solid IMO. As for the supports, the people on the outside are gonna get their faces smashed on some of those supports. Glad to know that you are doing better, though.

Looks like the pacing would be bad after the helix, and it looks like you put a chain there to make sure it gets over that hill. Maybe change that a bit? The rest looks good. The first turnaround looks like a dived cobra roll, which I thought was pretty innovative.

Good start, would like to see Montu finished as well ;)

If the clearance works, then the support is built. Can you tell me where you believe the face smashing is going on? I don't see it.

...and it looks like you put a chain there to make sure it gets over that hill.

The chain lift was used as a block brake section. DL the park and you can see that there's more than enough momentum for the trains to complete the circuit. Check out the original post for the updated saved game file.

    >EDIT<

I usually wouldn't bother to rework the layout after I placed the supports.

Here's the old version if anyones interested.

I would show you in Paint, but I can't figure out how to save your pictures since they are attachments. But, in the fifth screen, the first support that has a piece inside the helix, it looks like there isn't enough clearance.
  • Wolfman%s's Photo
That first support is over a straight and level section of track. It's not banked in any way, shape or form. The track section just beyond that IS a transitional track section, from level to a right-hand banked curve.

There's a logical reason why it looks like that. It's not that I didn't try to make it look right. If the horizontal element of the helix supports were any higher, then it would look as though the support was laying on top of the tracks and not beneath. It's either that, or the illusion of a headchopper. I'd rather have the support beneath the track, not laying across the track, it tends to look better that way. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wishes that the track designers of RCT 2 had the vision to add a bit more room between the levels of a helix.

I guess it's something that we're just going to have to deal with it. Of course, the alternative is to reduce the elements that a track designer has at his or her disposal, and simply not use the helix in our track designs when it comes to adding the B&M supports. But we all know what a farce that would be. I suggest that you stop splitting hairs here DH. Because you can't have both the helix and the supports @ the same time. At least, not to your liking anyway. It's either that or the upper level of the helix can go without supports. And unsupported track doesn't look anything close to being realistic.

its not called a Steel Twister Coaster, It called a B&M Sitdown.
  • Dotrobot%s's Photo
    It's not called a bitch, it's called a fraroc.

Anyway my thoughts on this, I like the layout but not all the A supports. I would just like some more l\ but i guess it's more of a preference thing.

Looks like the interactions are going to be great.

What theme are you going for? Egyptian?

Its not called a cocksucker its called a Dotrobot

    Sorry for that TANGENT

I sort of like the track, It has a nice realistic feel. Especially with the double corkscrew outro and the cobra roll in the station.

Nobody's impressed fraroc. That you know what a B&M sitdown is. So shhh :D!!!
And it doesn't get funny after the first time. Look at you using big boy words like TANGENT. Your mommy would be proud.

EDIT: sorry wolfman for flooding your thread. I'll shut up.

    Fuck you

its not called a Steel Twister Coaster, It called a B&M Sitdown.

Actually, in game it's called a Twister Roller Coaster (of Death). There are no brand/company names in RCT2.
Besides, it's his project...he can call it whatever the fuck he wants.

Also, Wolfman secretly told me that he wants to emulate frarocs building style so he's going to have scarce architecture, leave the landscape as it is and call it "Cedar Sands"

    We're all wrong!

According to the game, it's a
    Twister Roller Coaster.

So shut the *uck up already,
and quit screwing over my topic by arguing over squatt!!

    [attachment=4904:LOCUST08.jpg]

    Except K0NG.
    Because he's not a two-month newbie,
    wet-behind-the-ears, diaper pusher.

Ah but there's an intersting fact i learned.
If you type Elissa white into a guest name. I think it's Elissa white. She gets excited whenever sees an intamin coaster. And intamin comes shows up in her thoughts.
I think it's the wife of the owner of Themeparkreview.. But I'm not sure.

Sorry for getting off of topic. I just thought to bring that up.

Start your own topics, and stop screwing over mine.

  • Austin55%s's Photo
Are you going for realism? Because if that's supposed to be a realistic B&M sitdown its a pretty weak layout.
  • Goliath123%s's Photo
Dotro, your right, Elissa and Robb Alvey!
Dont forget kid tums, Christine i think.
  • Dotrobot%s's Photo
Elissa white's her maiden name or so i've heard.

BTW, nice to see you started back montu again.

    I'm anticipating it's release.
