Another thing I noticed; apparantly some people have released a lot of brown slabs. Came across it while looking for inspiration in some of the older challenges; quite a shame the images appear to be lost.

Click on the names of the parks.

I'm not really sure why or how that happens.

verti, we have done 1050 maps by now, but we have 1300 parks. if a map or download isn't available, it means we hadn't had the time to prepare and upload it yet.

the suggestions are interesting and most are already in our minds, but some will need discussion. i can't promise anything right now, of course, but we will of course look into what people are missing, and hopefully concept changes or new features together when time comes.

i hope all of you talking about the parkmaker stuff have read the first post of this topic. the current rankings are intended to already depict who is a parkmaker. the problem is that people have been used to the term "parkmaker" for ages and so it's difficult to let go of it. we had hoped to translate this into the rankings, which show the best players, but not only that but also who is on top of whom.

one thing i don't understand at all is what chapelz suggested. how is this little newsbox cluttering the page?? also, i was hoping now that posting news is so much easier, we would have more news announcements, so we could tell you more what is going on behind the scenes. but let's see how this works out. i think ideally we'd go about a month without any major changes (just smaller fixes), and then with hindsight we can make sense of what needs to be changed in what way to improve everyone's site experience.

Oh so its the current rankings? So technically in this new system I am a 'parkmaker'. I thought it would have been the Hall of Fame that would depict the parkmakers. Although the top 30 are mainly what used to be retired parkmakers, so I guess the current rankings are the parkmakers. Interesting.

See now I fully understand how much better this system is, it does amazing things to my motivation.

The removal of the parkmaker status has to actually be the best feature of New Element 4. No one is now given the status and can relax, we all have to continue working hard to get further up the rankings and stay there. Excelent stuff.

Would you be interested in parkmakers providing maps/overviews with their submissions? I suppose if they're provided by the parkmaker it will make things run a bit smoother on your end.

it would, but we want to ensure a certain quality of maps that is constant sitewide.

I get what you're aiming at with this new system, but I think for new members it's hard to understand past extraordinary parkmakers.. Like for example now SAC is #71, just below chapelz and above jazz, while he is still one of my favorite parkmakers ever (and not only from me I'm sure). RoB was extraordinary and I think he should be rewarded with a special title. In the past this was becoming 'NE Parkmaker', but that's impossible now.. Do you get my point?

absolutely sf. but sa's rank will improve once we get time to add all the dnet spotlights, of which he has two or three i think. we intend to give dnet spotlights the same points old pre-panel ne spotlights received, so he will definitely improve in hof rank.

I take it the list wont be returning, which isnt a bad thing because that was all 1 person's opinion.

However it would be nice in the future to have a park ranking aswell, so we can see which park is #1 of all time etc. Just an idea for the future.

I agree with Louis! Something like a feature to add parks to your 'favourites', with a maximum of 25 or something like that. That would turn into a chart too. Now only the parkmakers are ranked, while in my opinion the parks are more important than the parkmakers.

Good idea.. But now I'm thinking a bit further; Like in 5 years time there are other people who grabbed Spotlights and other accolades which adds A LOT of points.. I expect a huge boost in activity with this new ranking system as people always wants to be best around this site.. So in 5 years time SAC probably dropped to place 30 or 40, where he would be overlooked by new members I think..

Maybe only add an icon somewhere on the profile page that says something like "NE Spotlight Maker", so the best are easily findable and noticeable (you got NE Parkmaker anyways when grabbing a Spotlight)..

oh, i agree completely about the "new content" page. i had planned to make a sketch of what i think will be ideal for this and then send it to gee for his consideration. maybe if people want to help how about someone opens a pm conversation where we toss out ideas. if other people would like to make sketches, that'd be very welcome, too. they can be handdrawn or electronically crafted.

5 years horizon? wow, heh, i hope that will be true. i understand what you're getting at, but if other people surpass multiple spotlight winners in score, then i think they will deserve to be ahead of someone. also, i would like to point you at the "peak" colum in the rankings, where you can sort people by their best ranking. this will allow a listing of players who, regardless of time, where at the top of the rankings once during their rct career. this should output a list of players which we have aimed to be very similar to the old parkmaker pages.

Just a few things on my mind. The type is way to small imo. I've read somewhere that the human eye can read 12 to 18 words in a line without getting bored to carry on. Just for large posts or write-ups it may be a good idea to adjust the size so it encourages people to carry on.

Also posts don't seem like they are separated if they're pinned. They also always stay red and blue so you can't keep track of which topics you've viewed or if a new post has been posted after you've viewed it. Hope that makes sense.

Oh, and that new posts page looks fine to me though, what did you have in mind for improvements?
The only thing that is kinda annoying is that the first post of a topic is visible which makes it chaotic..

Edit - Just realised the letter goes away when you've viewed something.

Also that the normal topics differ from light blue to darker blue, ok I understand now.

Edit; SAC is on page 5 when I ranked the HoF on peak, which is still too low imo

edit2; I actually think Louis idea about an option for members to rank the parks is a very good one.. It could point the attention of new members to extraordinary parks of the past which is NE's legacy..
