Ask the Experts / RCT2 & RCTLL on new Macbook Pros

  • inVersed%s's Photo
So I plan on buying a new Macbook Pro in the next week or so, but I am unsure about how to play my PC version of RCT2 or RCTLL on this computer. I had planned on buying Parallels or Boot Camp along with Windows 7. So I can run my Macbook like a PC, but apparently neither RCT2 nor RCTLL is compatible with W7 since its so old. I hear that you then can run a compatibility mode in W7 where I can run the Windows XP OS. Still, at my local Microcenter store they said this only a possiblity, but doesnt guarentee that I will be able to play RCT2. Are these the right steps that I should take to be able to play RCT2 and RCTLL along with all the patches/trainers/utilities while still being able to access all the parks that were made on PCs. If this is not right tell me what I need to do, because I am willing to do whatever it takes, pay whatever costs to insure I will be able to play RCT2 and RCTLL on my new Macbook Pro.

I am sure there are some members here playing the old RCT games on new Macs. So tell me what you did.

    Thanks,

Bootcamp comes free with macs. Thats what I use, and I run XP Pro SP2 (RCT2 doesn't run on SP3) I've heard RCT is shit on Vista, and doesn't even run on 7 I believe.

See, this is where I run into my problem. I don't know where I can get my hands on XP Pro anymore

*hint* Do you know in which bay the pirates stay? *hint*

First of all, why do you want to buy yourself a Mac? They are very expensive and for the same amount of money you can buy one of the very high end models from HP, Dell and other brands, which have better hardware compared to the Macbooks. You could even choose to configure your own Alienware laptop which is superior to any Macbook for the next 2 years for sure.

I would not recommand you try to run RCT2 on a Macbook...

It would mean you have so much virtual stuff (Win7 virtual, then XP virtual in the win7 virtual mode ...) It would cause a lot of lag (trust me, I tested it to run XP in virtual mode on Win7) and it isn't playable at all...

I would suggest; That you don't want to be 'cool' with a MacBook which can't run any game ... Buy one of the highend models from HP of Dell, or build your own Alienware laptop.

I've got 4 gigs set aside on my Mac for Windows XP. (That takes up less space than most college guy's porn collections) It doesn't create a lag, and it all was free (I also know which bay the pirates are in ;D). Unless you are a major gamer beyond RCT, and just want a new computer for typical computer stuff than I feel that a Mac would be great. If you plan on running any more windows specific stuff beyond RCT, than I agree with Levis. It works for me, but as always YMMV.

I'm not sure about XP pro, but I run RCT2 on XP Home SP3 on a netbook. Cena, please do not reccomend XP pirated edition. If M$ was smart, they would open source their old OSes.

Anybody ever try RCT on Linux?

No. But, my LL CD has instructions on the front for Mac.

Hmm, I never thought LL would work for Mac. Maybe I should track down a disc and get back into it.

    YOU MOTHAF**** :peace:

rct2 does run on vista and win7 as long as you take the right options and dont use the x64 version.
but mac sometimes uses hardware which isn't completly microsoft proof (because they make it that way) so it could be it wont react completly 100% accurate on the emulations. and because rct2 and rctll both are written in ASSEM there isn't a lot of margin build in for such things.

the best way to know for sure if it works is to test it. but if it doesn't work it would be a waste of money imo ....

Mmm, that's a good point Levis (at least I say so, because I only understood half of what you said), which means it must be right.

Agreed, it works on my mac as well. I love my macbook so much more than my pc it's scary. I used to be a PC-only user, and I've grown up with Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, etc., and all I've ever come across were problems after problems. I've now had my macbook for over two years now and I haven't run into A SINGLE ERROR OR CRASH! EVER! and I can play RCT2, Diablo II LOD, SimCity 4 and the Sims 3 all very quickly, and all my school work + office apps work perfectly! plus, now that more and more people are getting into the mac craze, more and more games are Mac accessible. And they just look SO MUCH COOLER...

    [/endspam]

So in a nutshell: buy a mac. It's worth the extra few hundred.

Douchebag, Sims 3 was released for Mac officially as well, RCT2 wasn't. Yes and I know that since my sister has a Crapbook as well. The whole point behind the mac is imo to show off to your friends.

Hey, I have the new macbook with 2 gigs of Ram :o

Hi, I have the new Apple Iphone :o

But when you start putting time in, you will notice that iOS and MacOS are both extremely closed, Stevie Jobs decides what you can en what you can't do with your phone or macbook. Apple decides what apps are in the appstore ... And not to forget, the prize you pay for it way over what it is worth. If you look at how much money Apple has on their bank account you will see why the Macs are so freaking expensive ... Last three months they made billions of pure profit again, why? Because idiots pay way too much money for stuff. A good i7 920 system with an HD5850 or 5870 with 6 gigs of ram and a SSD with Win7 is far more superior to any Mac, and it's a lot less expensive. The truth is that some people are just being horny about every product that has an half eaten apple on the back.

@ Disneylandian, the reason why Microsoft (childish to write M$ by the way) doesn't make their old OS's open source is that they still have to write the security patches for it and all that. It's a nine year old OS, that is being replaced by Win7 a lot lately, reason why? Because XP is old, hard to write anti-virus stuff for, Win7 is easier to maintain and keep updated for Microsoft.

    Then you have no idea.
    Ever used one?

    @ Disneylandian, That Guy:
Is it running without any extra programms?
You've just installed it with the install disk or have you done anything additional?

Yes, and I don't like them.
  • Fr3ak%s's Photo
    Okay.
Well I use them for stuff at work and I have to say I've never used any other system that runs the things a need as stable as my Mac does.

But I do respect the fact, that you don't like using one =D

i'm with cena. i'm a complete apple hater so i'd better just shut up.

just this: to my experience, trying to run a software on a system environment it was not made for has usually caused me great amounts of headache. think twice if you really have to have a mac system.
