this is why team based contest are better for finishing stuff IMO, not only can you share the workload but also if in a solo based contest if you don't fell like it you just quit but in team you let down the team and you just wasted their time and effort aswell.
and tbh I never expected to get through the first round and doing so by forfeit made me stop caring for it basically, I still hate it for winning like that, schould've had a crystal ball I'd have send it in for design or something instead of a forfeit win... -

It seems to me that everyone is so damn proud and so concerned with winning accolades that they are unwilling to put in the effort in a contest like this. If someone starts with something and decides that it is 'too good' or they will be unable to finish on time, they think it's best not to 'waste it' on an unofficial contest like this and finish it up on their own time for an accolade. If you start something, send it in for god's sake. Forfeits are really unacceptable in a contest like this with plenty of time. Why waste everyone's time with signing up if you aren't willing to part with something that you think is not up to your best standards? I think my problem is with the attitude of "this is sacred and I can't let anyone see it unfinished" because that's a bunch of crap.
I appreciate those who are putting in the effort. But I guess my takeaway message here is to suck it up and swallow your pride. This is a game and it is more disappointing to the collective community to hoard your little fragments of work and thereby creating a no-contest than to make a last-ditch rush-job effort.. Your 'rank' isn't everything.
I don't mean to pick on you, Belgianguy. Your entry last round was my favorite. -

I was going to say something quite similar earlier today. But, I didn't want the wrath of NE to come down on me like a ton of bricks. I honestly worked harder on my first round entry here than I might have EVER worked on anything in my RCT "career". I've explained why already. I'm still unsure why my entry wasn't received but, that's water under the horse's cart.
I bit off more than I could chew by trying to cram an extraordinary amount of crap into a two week deadline and had to 'tidy' things up in order to meet the deadline. But, I did. I built 6 hours straight before heading out on vacation to have something presentable. And, I DID submit it...knowing full well that I could have 'saved' it for the all elusive NE accolade that I've yet to receive by simply forfeiting with some bullshit excuse.
And, anyone in this round posting that they just can't execute what they really wanted to do in such a short timeframe because it's just not enough time to fully realize your vision of the assigned objective can suck my balls. I'd have GLADLY taken your spot. I should HAVE one of your spots. I was in this to win. It's QUEST FOR THE BEST. And, the "best" will find a way to accomplish what's required of them.
Whoever survives this round should just be glad that some fucking glitch eliminated me. Because I was on a mission. Whatever the task at hand, whoever I was pitted against.....
So, shut up and get on with it. -

Honestly if I knew so many people were going to drop out I would have built entries for all possibilities in the first round. And hearing Casimir drop out is pretty irritating considering I was a last minute replacement and got knocked out (barely) by him. It might be a whole different story if I had known about the tournament earlier. Honestly, the structure should have allowed for dropouts by not scattering the requirements so much. One specific goal for the whole round would allow dropout pairs to be matched up so everyone gets to compete all the time. But this isn't my contest so it doesn't matter much.
Curiously, how many are left from the original 32 sign ups? -

I'll add my two cents in here: Well I think the idea of another QFTB contest is great, I find that it could have been organized much better (no offense to you Louis or anyone). In the first two rounds, seems like few people turned in or are going to turn in full entries (this includes myself). The first deadline was the weekend of the American Independence Day, which I think caused some problems for people (such as myself) who were leaving on vacation that weekend, and had to submit early or completel drop out. I found the workbenches a bit confusing to work with. I like the idea of having more scenery objects available, but I think the benches could have used improvement, or just stuck with gee's bench for the RCT2 players. Lastly, I think the themes for Round 2 could be more generic like in the QFTB-X. Again no offense to Louis and the planners, but I just think this could have went much smoother than it is turning out to go. -

You guys are right that this could have turned out much better, but as an observer, I don't see how ANY of the blame can be put on Louis or nin... they seem to handling this as well as anyone could. I think it's the players who are disappointing themselves.

I didn't mean to cast the entire blame on Louis and nin if that's how it came across. But I do think there are things they could have done to ensure things came together better. -

you don't mean to blame the planners...but you blame the planning?? which was done....by the planners....um....
it's not the planners job to worry about vacations and holidays. In the summer someone is going to be out of town any 2 weeks you pick no matter what. If we are on a quest to look for the best, i guess people who complain about lack of time or bad benches should be the first to drop out of the 'best' category....

Fine, whatever. It's useless arguing with you people. This is the most awesomest and best contest ever put together!!!! -

Oh and D_H, one of the 3 benches that you could interchange objects between was a very slightly adapted Geewhzz bench.
Also thanks to the mass amount of forfeits, this round only has 2 matches to vote on. Voting will open later on this evening.
Although it's going to be a shame to kick out 2 that have actually worked on an entry. -

I checked the three benches before I started my entry and none really resembled gee's bench, only some tabs of his were used, but if you say one was slightly adapted, I believe you. I'm sure there is an easier solution by my answer to picking objects from other benches was to write down all the .dats/object names from each bench and switch them using ParkDat. I just didn't even try my solution though because I knew it was going to be tedious, and take up too much time. I hope you understand, IMO though, there should be one workbench or everyone makes their own. -

Only 2 to vote on? I remember Loopy posting somewhere he sent his in, and I know I sent mine in, so there's one to vote on + someone else's matchup... wow.

Wow, that's really pathetic. People couldn't bother to even submit a raw layout (which is basically what some of the first round was like)? -

You know, I'm not surprised by the amount of forfeits. It's not Louis or nin's fault as they really did a good job organizing this, but this is probably why only official NE-contests would give a nice turnout.. People just like to have some 'official' recognition and that they can gain something with it.. I think now with the point system an official NE contest would do really good as people could receive lots of points for it if they do well..
That, and a lot of big names almost always show up and compete in an official NE contest, which makes it really interesting for everyone to enter..

I think an interesting concept for a contest would be just have people call out players and have either the two competitors or a panel decide deadlines and themes and such. -
Maverick Offline
That still relies heavily on players interest. After watching first round entries either not submitted for reasons of "saving" it or seeing plain layouts submitted it shows that there isn't much interest in general in an unofficial contest.
What do you think the people who lost feel like when their opponent goes and forfeits the next round?
