Ask the Experts / Installing .dat Files?

I know there is probably a very easy explanation for this, so how do you go about installing .dat files into the game. I have tried several different things with winzip, and was not successful. Please help

copy them to your obj dat folder in the rct2 install directory.

Tried that several times levis,Just dont know what im doing wrong.
  • Levis%s's Photo
well what do you expect them to do?
you dont see them in a normal savegame. you only see them in the scenario editor. and you need to make a new game to use them

Well, if the objects are in my object data file already, i dont understand why im getting a box pop up that says missing AE- jungle .dat file when i download one of the spotlight parks. When i try to extract that file to my obj dat folder, it says error every time. I should be able to see park if those objects are in there right? Thanks for answering

Go to your objdata folder, and click on the compability button (I expect you have Vista/ 7 ), if you see the objects their, select them all (ctrl + a), and cut them (ctrl + x) then open your objdata folder again, but now without clicking on hte compability button, so you see all the other objects, now paste them there (ctrl + v).

I am not sure at all if this is gonna work, since I am not sure if you have your UAC on/off and if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, but this is a thing I have experienced and where I found this solution for, it might work for you as well.

Agreed Joezia ..... But I just checked the topic of this forum to make sure I was in the right place . It says " Ask the Experts " , So yes I am asking to LEARN . And from what I gather by your response, you are not the right person to be replying in this forum. And a big thank you to levis and cena for your help. I finally did get to see the spotlight park I was wanting to see .

So was this nessisary? I would've given K0NG exactly what he wanted if he didn't always have to comment on last thing I say.

Lesson #2: There is a gap we call "normal" that rests between people that are like me and people like K0NG.

EDIT: I hope you know how to use trainers...

first wizards rule: People are stupid
I think that one applies to you very good ;) Joezia.

Can I ask what the problem was in the end?
  • CouchTater%s's Photo
Well Levis, the problem was me trying to extract that .dat file straight into the game itself. I ended up extracting to a simple subfolder into my documents, then I took Cenas advice and yours and copied the .dat file into obj data folder. It still did not work after that though, come to find out I have 2 obj data folders ..... one under infrogames interactive (which is the one that i thought you used) and the other under infrogames RCT2 triple thrill pack .... well that was the one and works like a charm now. Thanks so much to the both of you again.
And yes joezia i do have a trainer SOB .... and im LEARNING with it now ... so I may ask a few more questions in the near future in this forum ... just dont even bother replying, you gave absolutely no advice at all
