One thing is for certain, the Dutch got their karmic dues for an abysmally cheap and dirty display of football. The match was terrible in general, but I'd say Spain deserved the win if only for their perseverance. They had so many shots on goal during overtime that one of them was bound to stick. And it did. They may not be flashy or win by an incredible margin, but Spain is able to wear down the opponent and it's a strategy that appears to work well for them. -

...BUT this to me is by no means deserved!!!
I mean I don't get how this is supposed to be well deserved at all...Just 1-0s since their 3rd group game, they lost to Switzerland, they were lucky in almost every game (probably all besides the one against Germany where they played like they did in 2008), and the refs didn't really do bad from a Spanish perspective either if you look at the whole tourny.
I thought the Spanish victory at the Euros in 08 was EXTREMELY deserved but this one is just...it just doesn't feel right...doesn't feel like they've shown anything in the whole tourny that makes them World Champions.
Goals aren't deserved, goals are made, and Spain managed to make at least one goal in each match, who cares the score, after all they ended holding the cup. They lost to Switzerland...so what? Germany lost to Serbia and then they came up with a 4-0 against Argentina. I do agree about the referees though, so many missed faults. However some Holland players should've known that in soccer you have to kick the ball, not other players. Fortunately in the end, it was remarkable how respectful dutch players were at the ceremony. Anyway, it was quite an enjoyable final, so much tension at the end and so much effort by each player. Congrats to both teams for giving their lives in this amazing match. -

all i can say is that the best play of the game HAD to be when the dude ninja kicked the other guy straight in the chest.
most entertaining play in soccer that i've seen in a while lol.
that cleat to the sternum must have sucked! -

That was one of the most boring games I've ever watched... In the damn World Cup final. But I guess it was expected to be boring... Netherlands and Spain is a pretty weak final to have in the first place.
I'm sad that the World Cup is over though, because now when I watch the U.S major league it'll be like watching recreational soccer...BAD recreational soccer. -

disgusting play by the dutch. it would have been great injustice had they won after all these terrible fouls. -

Sigh... three times in the final and still not winning.... (shakes head...)
It was not a fun match at all. It was played in utter frustration and panic football. Even if we had won it would have been that.
I have to agree that the dutch should have played cleaner (they actually did after the first half, so guess the coach had a say about it) and several deserved yellow cards, but regardless it was a very poor referee. The spanians also weren't very happy with him when they heard they got him. The guy gave more yellow cards in the whole cup than anyone else. He blew his whistle too much for BS fouls which interrupted the match way too often, keeping the flow out of it. Then there was that yellow to one of the dutch player that didn't even touched his oppenent that just fell and the freaking goal that determined the outcome of the match was offside slightly just before scoring. As for deserving the victory I think they both were matched even if Spain did lose one match in the cup. You also have to give to the dutch team credit that they didn't lose a single match +/- 25 times in a row (it was a number like that).
Ah well, guess I have to congratulate Spain for the victory and I'm happy it's a country that never won it before (would have hated it if Brazil, Urugay, Argentina or Germany would have won it because of that). Also glad it didn't end in penalties because I hate matches that are ended like that (it has to be won in the field, not on the fair's shooting gallery). Would have liked though they would have won with a legitimate goal though, because it's just feeling sour right know (even if I get called a sore loser ) -

Congrats to Spain..
We never played our own game, and instead focused too much on Spain's play.. Which was a bad idea and thus it resulted in some very nasty fouls by us.. I don't know what De Jong was thinking, but that could've meant end of the game for us.. Funny thing is all of the media and analysts predicted this could happen with De Jong and still he played this way..
If only Robben would've scored that goal... or if we got that corner just before the 0-1.. or if Gio didn't got cramp.. or if vd Vaart wasn't brought onto the field..
Ah well, we were lucky against Brazil and Slovakia, guess our luck was spent..

woooo Spain, my team win. yay! anyway the dutch were lucky to not have more sent off, the ammount of players on yellow in that match was hilarious.
I think Webb had a hard game to referee, he made some good calls, he made some bad calls, but I dont think this affected the result in anyway. The dutch didn't deserve to win, Spain did.
Congrats Spain -

I honestly had no opinion whatsoever. I wanted the Dutch to win because I'll be in Amsterdam, and that would've been really fun to be there after a victory, but I also wanted Spain to win because I'm Spanish. To sum it up, I didn't give a shit who won... -

^I'm arriving at Schiphol tomorrow around 14:20, I think. I'm staying for another three days after that, so it'll be a blast! -
