If that's how you choose to interpret what I said, then so be it. If this is the world's sport, then I would like there to be more sport and less cheating and crying like little bitches. If these professional athletes can't have enough honour and pride in their team and their country to play fairly, then get them off the fucking field. There's millions of others that would gladly go in their place.MA hit the nail on the head. The rest of the world, where this sport is very popular, is so damn wimpy compared to the US that they don't mind some slight exaggeration of appearing to be pain, if it benefits their team.
Joking aside, I can't stand that aspect of the game either. I think all kinds of dirty tricks should be severely punished, that includes bad tackles as well as obvious dives and deliberately wasting time (like when they make a substitution in the 95th minute and the player shuffles off the pitch at an agonizingly slow pace, all while making a face like "damn I'm so tired, I can't possibly move any faster these last 40 metres to the sideline although I've been running lots of kilometres in the hour and a half preceding this.". But the optimal solution would of course be for the players to stop trying to take advantage of every single situation, or sometimes even when there isn't even a situation at all. But since they've noticed that it more often than not pays off to do it, they do it. It's a really bad trend that I hope will change. -

I was just joking MA and I agree with your point.
And Sam brilliant people like you should be in charge of the world. If you ever run for president I'll become a British citizen so that I can vote for you. -

I have a feeling Mexico - Uruguay will be a cracking game. Sure, a draw ensures going through to the last sixteen for both of them, but on the other hand Mexico could finish first with a win here and Uruguay won't let them do that easily. -

^ I agree, everyone is speaking of an organised draw resulting in a boring 0-0 that gurantees both teams qualify. Whilst possible, I have a feeling with the form Forlan is in he will lead Uruguay to a win here ensuring they avoid Argentina in the 2nd round which not only enhances his teams chances of progressing further but also his quest for the golden boot.
It will be tight with no teams wanting to lose but I'll go for Uruguay to knick it 1-0 with Forlan getting the goal.
In the other tie I expect a few big French names to be left out/boycott and South Africa to give it their all in what is likely their last game: 1-1.
Edit: Just seen the line-ups...still no Henry for France but Gallas starts, their team severely lacks balance in midfield.Edited by Themeparkmaster, 22 June 2010 - 07:19 AM.

I can't believe what has happened to France this World Cup. Terrible decision by the referee, France have given up all hope now and with events in the other game conspiring in SA's favour they have 45 minutes to bag themselves 2 or 3 goals. It will be incredible if they can make it! -

C'mon England! Much better performance so far...one more goal now please boys I have a wager on Defoe to score first and England 2-0. -

...my tipp for USA was 1-1, so I lost 2 points in the last minutes.
But congrats! Hopefully Germany will reach the last 16, too.... -

I suppose it won't be discussed now they they've won, but how about aannnother fucking disallowed legal goal by the US? Does this happen often in the football world, or should I rightfully be pissed off that the refs almost single handedly destroyed our chances at making round 2? -

haha I was thinking about that as well! That'd have been very sad if the refs had taken the second win from you guys.
But still why did England only score once? Now it's gonna be England v Germany if Germany wins tonight... -

Well, it would technically be a different game with that goal than without. You don't know what would happen with it.
To answer your question though, it is normal in football. Football is all about yelling at how bad the referee is (whether he actually is does not matter). All fouls are disputed. The referee has exactly one fourth chance of getting a single tackle right: no foul, foul, yellow card, red card.
I'm kidding. It really would have sucked, but you gotta see it as part of the game. Referees are usually trained quite intensively. Can you imagine having to see all those tackles in these matches? Everyone is trying to cheat the system in every possible way, and there is one man running the field with the decision about everything. Mistakes are only human.
That said, I don't understand why we can't employ a system for offsides. I mean, camera's pinpoint this information within minutes, there should be an automatic system possible. (though I don't know how it ended with that in tennis, I do believe it was quite bugged at first)
Anyways, congrats England and USA (and mexico, uruguay and south korea) joining us in the round of 16 :) -

Better performance from England but we need to be more lethal in the final third, there was a period in the second half where we were all over Slovenia and we really should have killed the game off with another goal or two.
You're never going to be on top all game against any side at a World Cup but the key to a good side is scoring during the spells where you are applying the pressure. England really need to develop that cutting edge if we are to press on in this tournament.
Ideally we won't face Germany but if we do progress passed whomever we face in Round 2 I think we can make it to the semis as we will be facing Uruguay or South Korea most likely in the quarters...both teams we should beat on our day.
Rooney still looks a yard off the pace though and not as sharp, wish he could have scored his chance today to give him the confidence boost he needs...and win my bet! -

Whoever we come up against in the next round we need to just prove that we are still one of the favourites.
