Maicon's goal was definately intentional, a perfect shot from that angle. Their second goal was beatiful aswell, robinho had real splitvision (haha) there. I'm glad korea scored one too! If they weren't in such a tough group they'd definately have a chance to go through.

I can't wait for the other 2 Korea matches though... Their defense is good, so they can make it difficult for Ivory coast and portugal.

The problem Brazil had in the first half was that they were playing too much in the center, if they would attack more on the right and left, they would break open the defense from Korea, they did that in the second half and the result was there.

If both Korea and Portugal keep their levels(s), it will be a win for Korea. I really doubt that Portugal will proceed to the next round.

Yeah Portugal has to knock it up a notch if they're going to be contenders at all. Ivory coast has some great material in their squad but I think Sven-Göran Eriksson is just the wrong man for that team. It feels like so many coaches in this tournament is defense-minded, the two swedes (Sven-Göran and Lars Lagerbäck, the latter is the former coach of sweden's national team... ugh.) add to that number. That might be one reason to the lack of goals.

Chile-Honduras up next. I have high hopes for Chile, they'll be the surprise team of the tournament I believe. And then Spain are entering the tournament, finally. I hope they'll do something about the ridiculously low goal per game average, though Switzerland is no easy opponent. And after that South africa will face Uruguay, a win for either team there and they are very close to going through. Interesting games!

Wow, Chile played so well! They're definitely one of my favorites the first round so far. Deserved a lot more goals. Sanchez was fun to watch..

I expect Spain to win the next match, but the pressure is really high for them as everyone has them as their favorites to win the tournament..

Almost every favorite disappointed me though, except for Germany who played a surprisingly strong match.. I've been researching why all those countries are doing so poorly and why most of the games are so boring to watch except for the Germany-Australia and Chile-Honduras matches, and I think it has to do with the height they play on..
Every stadium except Cape Town Stadium, Moses Mabhida Stadium and Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium are on a pretty high altitude so I think players could suffer from being less 'explosive' and having less energy because of higher air pressure (Germany-Australia was played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium which is near sea level)..
The jabulani also proves it's not a very good ball as almost all free kicks, long distance passes and long distance shots are going way too high.. Because of the texture it looks like it's hard to catch for goalkeepers too..

Oh, and those vuvuzela's are way annoying.. Not only players can't communicate on the pitch, which makes defending really hard, the whole atmosphere inside the stadium is destroyed.. When a goal is scored you almost think it wasn't a valid goal because no-one seems to cheer, but it's just that damn vuvuzela which overpowers any crowd cheers. I also miss the chanting and music the fans make from all countries.. Like I see the Argentinians play on the drums, but don't hear them.. I wish FIFA bans them immediately..

Agreed. The different chants & different music is what makes the World Cup so awesome, these stupid trumpets just drown it all out.

Let me post my thoughts from what I have seen.

From the favorites it seems that France, Italy, England, Portugal, and Spain suck.

I think of all those teams Spain will do better.

By the way, Cristiano Ronaldo is a pussy.

    ^nice edit ;)

France will drop out, Italy will reach the round of 16, england will lose in the same round against us, portugal will be 3rd in it's group and brazil will reach the quarterfinals.
Spain, though, will reach at least the semifinals. IF THEY START SCORING GOALS >__>

^You suck even harder and you will never play soccer at their level, so shut up.

I can't wait for your predictions Turbin3 :) Looking forward to those, espially what you thought of the Spain match.

    Cena: me? yeah?`wtf?
Switzerland has shown one of the best defending efforts, apart from North Korea and a LOT of luck. The goal was nice, though.
  • Wanted%s's Photo
Cena, funny that you say that....I am currently playing for a team ranked 30th in the nation in the US. Now I KNOW you are just going to insult me for playing in the US, but I just wanted you to know that I do have a chance to play at a high level in the future.

I was so impressed by Switzerland. Sure, they didn't offer blinding super offensive minded possession football, but only a foolish national team would try that against Spain. They played exactly the right style of football to defeat Spain, based on the player material they had. Also some of their counterattacks were deadly, often with just 4 men or less but with a very clear idea and that was enough for them to score, and win. Well done!

And Chile displayed some nice football too, they'll battle hard to go through and Spain is in a thight spot right now, suddenly it feels like them going through isn't that certain.

EDIT: Just realized the second round begins later today, so bring up your predictions!

I was quite shocked, and impressed that Suisse came up with a victory over Espana today. My stupid TV froze at 94':52, so i missed the end, but Suisse played very well, epecially defending the passing attack of Espana. They also came away with a second goal too. I really thought the guy had it, but it bounced off the sidebar.
