Hey all,
As it's been a long time since I've actually done a 'serious' park, I've decided to start off small. Starting with a base landscape from UCES (Camp Mockingbird), it's been modified heavily. This park is inspired by the screenshot of the Swinger posted by WallyWorld almost 2 years ago in his "Botanical Gardens Park" thread. The idea is similar, a botanical gardens that decided to add a few rides. I introduce to you...
"Victory Gardens"
The history of this park dates back to 1945. It was opened to celebrate the Victory in Europe and the end of World War 2. A wealthy businessman revamped his mansion grounds and opened them up to the public. Over the years, various rides and attractions have been added until the park is as it sits today. The emphasis is still on the gardens, but the rides are the main reason people come. The miniature train and carousel were the first rides added, so that's where I started.
The park is still very much a work in progress, but I plan to update this thread with images every week or so.
The ride collection will mainly consist of flats with a few coasters.
Currently planned are a custom Zierer 'Tivoli' coaster, a small family wooden coaster and possibly a Schwarzkopf speedracer or looping speedracer. The last coaster is up in the air, but the other 2 are definites.
Below are some images of the progress on architecture so far.
The pavilion for the Grande Carousel. I'm rather proud of this. I may add a bit of trim to the top, but I'm happy with the way it currently sits.
The main station for the Victory Gardens Railway. There is a smaller station without the bay window planned for the other side of the park, but it hasn't been constructed yet.
The main office building for the park as it currently looks. I'm not entirely happy with the colouring and/or the actual look. Suggestions on improvements are welcomed. I plan on changing the roof colour to match the train station, but aside from that, I'm open to suggestions.
Two of the walk-through greenhouses in the park. Obviously the flowers and plants have yet to be added.
The only other ride in the park at this point is the Giant Slide built on a hill. This will be the centrepiece of a planned 'kiddieland' area. More scenery work needs to be done obviously.
Comments and criticism welcomed.

The ideas nice dan,im a big fan of foliage so hope to see lots of beautiful planting i.e http://www.insidesoc...icalGardens.jpg
as for the screens so far they're a bit flat faced, you could benefit from adding small changes in width i.e a slightly larger concrete area for the base.I think you need to make things more grand in general especially the greenhouses. Maybe something like this

Thanks for the input. As far as the "Flatness", I know where you're coming from. THe office building is going to be revamped completely, both colour and appearance-wise, I'm not happy with it at all.
I'm aiming for something a little bit less "in your face" as the Atlanta gardens. I'm basing the idea on the Niagara Botanical Gardens in Niagara Falls, Ontario with a splash of Gilroy Gardens in California.
This is pretty much my first actual "architecture" park with RCT2. Alot of my older stuff was LL. This park is a learning experience for me -

Ye i remember you from back in the day dan.As you said it is a learning curve going from full tiles to having the choice of using 1/8 and 1/16 of a tile blocks. Along with the ability to use more than one texture per tile.
From a google image search im assuming your going to have lots of mowed grass, geometric hedge rows and planters then.Lots of little details followed by large open space should make this look great
I wouldnt mind helping with this if you need some assistance -

screens 3 and 4 need some work. that flat wall texture on screen 3 is just awful. take rrp's advice...what bench are you using? i assume you'll quickly get better as you learn more about working with the more advanced benches and scenery in rct2. good luck -

Geewhzz - I agree. the office looks absolutely hideous. I like the general shape, but aside from that, it needs alot of work. I've got a couple of design ideas for it. The base landscape I'm using is Camp Mockingbird from the UCES - a small 79X79 map. I'm doing alot of work in the scenario editor as well as the actual game, so textures and items are being added and removed as I see need for them. It's just a pain when not everything I select shows up as available... lol
Hepta - Indeed, I'm the DanMacK responsible for both Willow Lake Park and Adventures Into Imagination.

Dan, there is a limit of like 128 items in the ? mark tab, so if you're selected more than that and they don't have groups to go in, not everything is going to show up even though it's technically there. I think you're better off starting with a pre-made bench and avoiding the scenario editor completely except for adjusting map size and park entrance placement. You should checkout ParkDAT and a good object viewer like DATchecker or RCT2DatPreview and make use of www.rct2objectlist.com -

Starting off with a premade bench would probably have been a good idea, but as I'm not really sure what exactly it is that I want, it made more sense to pretty much start from scratch. This way, I can build structures and weed out what I need and don't need as far as scenery goes.
It's going pretty well so far. The office is undergoing a revamp and the areas for some other structures are blocked out.
The park may only end up with 2 coasters, but we'll see.

Dan M
