I hope that's not what I think it is..

Nah, light novels... so, not *too* far off the mark? (Only slightly more complex writing, a lot fewer illustrations.) Nothing wrong with manga, though. If YesAsia wasn't out of stock of everything I wanted I would've gotten manga too...

I did that response because of SSSammy's comment expressing his unknownness.
My comment wasn't really a serious one though it was only slightly meant as a joke and more like a comment you shouldn't pay attention too.

Meh... I have a heap of individual pedals all zip-tied to some 1/4" plywood with 2x3" support. You just can't get the right Whammy sounds without a Whammy, or small stone sounds without a small stone, or fuzz sounds without a fuzz. But I also spent an unholy amount of money over several years working my mess out and honestly that thing covers the bases awfully well if you're not after a very particular sound with each effect...

What are you running it into (for an amp?)

I actually didn't buy it for a Multi-FX box. (I wholly agree that single pedals are usually better for effects.) Looper + tuner + recording interface justifies $350 for me. Most of the effects are pretty useless unless you want to sound like a synth. (Though, the basic modulation stuff sounds pretty good IMO.)

I actually haven't tried it out with my amp (Vibro Champ XD) yet -- the amp models in these things are incredible. I used to think modelers were never going to beat out tube amps, but this thing changes my mind. Soon as I get my recording setup debugged, I post some clips in the music forum.

right, guys. I'm pretty fucking poor, but i am SO into guitar effects. always have. could either of you help me choose something affordable, and if not, could you help me choose something that is worth the money? I'd really, really appreciate it.

Well, what d'you want? Asking about "guitar effects" is kind of like going to a hardware store and asking for "a tool." What do you want to do; what do you want your effects to do?

Basic categories to get you started:
    - Dirt boxes -- overdrive, distortion, fuzz, etc. I feel I can make useful suggestions here.
    - Modulation -- chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, etc. I know shit-all about this stuff, so someone else would have to help you.
    - Time effects -- reverb, delay, etc. If you're just bored and want something to fuck around with, go with a delay pedal.

And then there's pitch shifters and wahs and filters and all the weird shit EHX puts out when their engineers get stoned. So yeah, more information please...

Well, as far as a whammy, Digitech is the best option. There are others (Boss has a pretty nice pitch shifter that you can hook an expression pedal to) but I haven't seen any better options. For delay, there are a bunch of options. My personal preference (if I were to buy a pedal today) is the Boss DD-3 (~$110USD). If you prefer an analog delay, you can't go wrong with a MXR Carbon Copy (~$150USD). (Also, if you want basically everything + a looper, the Line6 DL4 is fucking incredible. Also very expensive, so...)

As for fuzz... here I'm a bit out of my depth. There are a LOT of different fuzzes. I suspect (from elsewhere) that you're looking for something along the lines of Muse's sound. Matt, iirc, uses a Fuzz Factory (one of his guitars has one built in.) That'll set you back around $180-$200 USD. Other options: EHX Big Muff (not actually a fuzz, but often called one), octave fuzzes like the MXR Blue Box, Fuzz Face (for that Hendrix sound), etc.

However, the overall best thing to do: go to a store with your gear, and try stuff out. This goes just as much with amps and effects as it does for guitars. (Seriously, you have no idea how many times I've been kicked out of stores in the past year for just playing around for hours.) I'm aware this is probably more difficult in the UK than the US, but basically your only other option is online retailers with very liberal return policies.

2003 Mazda 6 i. The miles are high and the colour's a little bolder than I'd usually go with, but the price was right. I put down a deposit tonight, hopefully going to pick it up and finalize it tomorrow. Pictures when that happens...

    And I can't believe I didn't brag about this one: http://www.lovesac.c...uede-cover.html

Note the price tag. I got one used from my friend for $50.
