Not missing a whole fuck of a lot. It's cool...but, it's like a generic story with great special effects and nothing more. With the obligatory cheesey ending. Rent it and see for yourself. Don't buy it unless you just buy everything that's released.

    Just my opinion.
  • RCFanB&M%s's Photo
Nah, not planning to watch it actually, I mean it was a big deal when it was released at the movies you know, i'd been told it had some amazing 3d effects, that's the only thing I found interesting. Unfortunately, I started university so I had no life (still in that situation), and whenever I found some free time, I spent it at a club with my friends, or sleeping.

Avatar is the most overrated movie of 2009 for sure, it only made money because of the effects, but the story is the same as we have seen 10+ times in Hollywood already; Good vs Bad, Good wins in the end, but loses important people, Bad always have better machines but Good always has better tactics/strategy.

If you watch more then 10 movies a month, it gets kinda boring to see this kind of a storyline in a lot of them, but you probably only watches the movies everyone watches.

I'm not sure if you know this Cena, but that's what people want to see. That's the reason Avatar, Transformers, Dark Knight, Iron Man, Titanic (in a way) all do really well. People want to see explosions. Plot is usually lost in these movies. That's why they end up doing terrible in reviews because it's not what the critics want. It's what the people want, and that is the most important thing.

Oh, I do understand your point completely, that is the economic reason behind it, but for me, who watches a lot of movies, it gets boring :p

You don't have that problem if you watch the right movies. :p

I get what you're saying, but you picked a horrible batch of movies to demonstrate your point. Titanic was incredibly plot driven, and Dark Knight was a very good balance of plot and action. Transformers can fuck right off.

Avatar wasn't the most original plot in the world, but it was certainly well told and given enough attention to hold my attention. True, the visual elements were given priority, but that alone doesn't make it a shitty movie.

Yeah, I know what you're getting at MA. Those were actually the only movies I could think of at the time with explosions. :| But, you can understand where I'm coming from.

And, I'll use Transformers 2 to prove my point. Reviewers gave it such scores around 20 of 100. However, after Dark Knight, it made the most money in a very quick time. This is pretty much saying that people came in wanting to see giant robots fighting, and that's what they came out with. They wanted to see explosions and hot girls. They got what they wanted. It's not about pleasing the critics, it's about making money and pleasing the people.
