RCT Discussion / The NE Confessions

I didn't really intend for any of this conversation. What I really meant is that:

    1. The people that complain the most about the lack of posting on the boards are some of the biggest offenders of using other forms of communication to distribute their own work and fail to see the hypocracy of their actions.
    2. This practice is exclusionary, and because of that:
______A. Some members will feel excluded. It seems stupid for me to say, but apparently some people are unaware, so let me state the obvious.
______B. You're an asshole if you give someone a hard time about not knowing about a park that was kept off of the main forums.

    ^^I mostly agree.

I am probably the largest offender of IM screenage. Not only do I generously give out screens, but I tend to send the file itself as well. However, I only really talk to people whose insight I completely trust and whose reviews I value extensively. I only like to present finished products to the community, or screens where I've done everything I set in mind to do, only showing the community to generate buzz, affirm any suspicions, or to gather some extra advice. The majority of what I make is vetted on IM, and practically any screen I show has already been given constructive criticism by 2-3 people on IM. It is called the "Advertising" District, and advertisers show finished products to generate buzz with consumers, not to gather their advice on how to design the product. However, this is just my $0.02 on the IM screens.

I share this opinion, showing screens to people who know what they are talking about gives me more usefull tips then 3 boards I post on (dutch boards).

It's this kind of attitude that gets my back up.

    1. These people who you think know what they are talking about are just as capable of posting their opinions on the forums.
    2. If people 'in the know' don't post in the ad. district and else where because they say everything privately no one else can learn.

This elitism bullshit is what will ultimately kill the forums and as MA says it comes mainly from the people who moan the most about inactivity.

@ Cena.....But, don't the same people who "know what they're talking about" see the screens if they're posted on the boards? I mean, I agree with everyone that states that it's up to the creator to decide where and to whom he shows his work. But, at the same time, I'd think that the more feedback you get, from either 'knowledgeable' people or those that maybe aren't as 'well-versed' in the game, the more you actually get a feel for what the general consensus is. My only concern is that sharing through the forums is what gives a community life and keeps people around. When all but a select few have nothing to come to a fansite for or begin to feel excluded, they eventually stop coming altogether. And this is what will kill the popularity of any game. It's why I, even though I've always been very secretive with my work, decided that it would be better to do more sharing of it. Not that I think anything I do is so spectacular that it'll change anything on it's own....but just to add even a tiny bit to the activity of the site as a whole.

I was typing this as TPM posted so I'll just let what he said stand as a summarization of my post since he said almost exactly what I had intended to say at the end here.

Wow, the number of pathetic people on this site is obnoxious. That's my confession.

I have no problem with sharing screens outside of the boards on IM, facebook, whatever because often outside help is necessary for hacking help and other advice that would otherwise leave screens more unfinished than they already are. The problem comes when the reply as "you already know my thoughts on this" is posted and nothing more. Instead of posting a phrase like that, how about repeat that thought on the boards so the rest of us don't feel singled out? I've shown a few people some screens of my park outside the boards and I'd much rather see their comment again and any new thoughts they might have because that might inspire others to come to a similar conclusion if their thought is indeed something that needs improvement. If the screen is finalized and corrected before posting, a simple "keep up the great work" is okay to restate because I might have forgotten what you told me on IM/facebook earlier. And that way you don't come off as an elitist douche who is more privileged than than others because they got inside look on a project. We're all a community here so lets not make it obvious who gets to see more of certain projects that would make others jealous. You brag about having an inside look on someone's project, we get it, you're not cool. Once again, I'm not saying it's bad to show screens behind the forums, just don't be condescending about it, and it's better to just not post at all if all you would otherwise post is "you know my thoughts already."

Which limit is that? Never heard of it ....

I must confess that I want to send in 3 or maybe 5 designs at the same time, and see how many pass the accolade panel.

The object limit, when you can't build anymore. Only a handful of parks have hit it because they need to be pretty big. It's almost exclusive to RCT2, tho a few years ago while working on BGSA Fatha' became the first one to hit it in LL.

I hit the spirit limit quite often. And sometimes I even mix it with Sprite.

On pot, I feel like my autistic client acts. This makes me think that pot affects the same ares of the brain that causes autism. Graduate thesis anyone?
