It's not your fault, Walto. There's apparently a subforum somewhere where all the people that are better than us (not at RCT, just in the ways we couldn't possibly understand) talk about the important things. This is the only logical reason I can come up with so many people already know others thoughts on things and know about unadvertised projects that we aren't cool enough to know about, then complain that there isn't enough action or excitement on the main boards. The only way. -

Kumba actually had an Ad District topic for it, and he wasn't silent about it at all. -

MA, it's called AIM.
And you have a valid point, the amount of posts along the lines of 'you already know my thoughts...', 'I've talked to you about this already...', to quote Peter Griffin, grinds my gears. Either be so kind as to let everyone else know or don't bother posting. -

Maybe a thread sharing screen names needs to be created for those who aren't in the loop. -

while you're building press the V-key and everything turns tan and plants jungle bushes.
ahaha that's great.
I also agree with MA. I feel like that too -

No. If you want to speak with someone, ask if he has aim/msn and if so, let him add you or otherwise, no general threads about this, it would only cause spam in your mailbox.Maybe a thread sharing screen names needs to be created for those who aren't in the loop.

i don't see anything wrong with only sharing things with people on msn/aim. the problem comes when they talk about it. -

This is not the cause of the problem why people advertise more on msn/aim lately then on the board. Because the level we are playing the game is going up and up, people are more unsecure about certain things in their rct creations, therefore they try it first on msn/aim before posting it on the board... And on the board I have the experience you sometimes only get 'compliments' but no tips. On msn/aim you can ask if certain things have become good in your screen etc, on the board this is harder to do.i don't see anything wrong with only sharing things with people on msn/aim. the problem comes when they talk about it.
Atleast, this is how I think of it. -

I really don't see the difference between posting screens on the board or sharing through IM. The same people should (and usually do) give the same criticism either way. My only complaint with sharing through IM is that sometimes I like to learn from people's comments on other people's screens. Maybe someone is doing something similar to someone else and missed something that someone pointed out in AIM/MSN. However, because this was not pointed out on the board, the creator doesn't have the knowledge to fix/incorporate it into their work. -

There's a huge difference between posting on the board and in IM. On the board, everyone gets to see it whereas in IM, it's only a chosen few. Which completely defeats the purpose of the AD. Not that I'm typically big on posting anywhere (which is about to change) but the only time I share anything via IM is when I need an opinion on something specific and most often, quite significant that I can't decide which way to go with and will usually dictate the entire direction of what I'm building.
I have to somewhat agree with JDP about it being "like high school on the internet", particularly when someone posts the obligatory "you know what I think of.....". I mean, if they already know, why the fuck do you have to repeat it on the forums? Simply to show everyone else that you're 'in the loop' and therefore special? And, I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that I don't feel any sense of jealousy.....I don't particularly WANT to be in anyone's BFF clique....I just feel that it, again, defeats the purpose of the AD. And as more and more people turn to only sharing through IM, interest in the boards begins to wane and the forums become less and less active. Why do you think it's called a "community" for fuck's sake? It's all about sharing your interest in RCT and being part of a group of others with the same passion for the game. In the sense of coming together in spirit for a school football team instead of just being part of the "quad squad" who's main concern is to gossip about how ordinary everyone else is and how great it is to be one of the 'beautiful people'. Fuck, I have to go grab my MM CD now....haven't heard that song for a while. -

Started a new project yesterday. There's already a lot of progress, but nothing worth showing. Once I'm ready I'll show everything. No teasing! -

No offence to CP6 here but lets use him as an example, pretty much backing up what Kong said here.
In Cp's fiesta topic hed posted a picture not posted on the forums. Some people replied with ive seen that and similar, others thought it was a bonus, like my self. When we find out that these screens were showed to a select few you think why not just dump it in your park topic?? Your going to get as many replies and people not feling left out, like my self. I know im a big fan of SFC so its cool to see new screens but not when they've been shown to others right away.
So basically think of the others. -

what you're saying there is actually "think of me"
its THEIR FUCKIGN PARK, THEIR SCREENS. up to THEM to do what THEY want. in the end it doesnt even matter, so why waste your finger energy. -

I think Liampie has got the best thing to do. I might show the one person I usually ever talk to on MSN things I fiddle around with but dont always stick with but once I have alot done and am sure I will finish I start a thread and advertise.
I dont really mind all of it honestly. -

^^I mostly agree.
I am probably the largest offender of IM screenage. Not only do I generously give out screens, but I tend to send the file itself as well. However, I only really talk to people whose insight I completely trust and whose reviews I value extensively. I only like to present finished products to the community, or screens where I've done everything I set in mind to do, only showing the community to generate buzz, affirm any suspicions, or to gather some extra advice. The majority of what I make is vetted on IM, and practically any screen I show has already been given constructive criticism by 2-3 people on IM. It is called the "Advertising" District, and advertisers show finished products to generate buzz with consumers, not to gather their advice on how to design the product. However, this is just my $0.02 on the IM screens. -

Breaking News:
We are not 'consumers' and no one 'buys' our products. No one gives a fuck about 'buzz'.
I admit when I was first at this site I ended up obsessed with trying to create hype around what I was building but really who gives a shit? Just enjoy the game, hopefully finish what you set out to do and release it so that the people who come to this site for more than their daily affirmation of belonging can enjoy viewing something you created in a game you both love to play.
I'm not going to wade into the IM vs. Boards debate because KONG has covered it so "you know what I think of that..."
All I will say is it is obviously up to the individual what they do with their screens/parks but it is the responsibility of everyone else who is party to their work to either post something relevant or refrain from their urge to emphasise that they have already seen it before us minions.
Back in the day when I used AIM there would be more people using it than on the boards. Everyone frequently exchanged parks/screens/ideas but the boards never suffered for it.
Also, bear in mind that many of the greatest parkmakers were also the most modest and guarded with what they created. It doesn't always pay to IM everyone a screen each time you place a bench on a path.
