I think racism is pretty much rampant in Europe, and I'm mainly thinking of countries like Italy and Spain. Is this true?
I've heard certain Italian politicians (cant remember the name) suggest some truly ridicilous ideas lately, like making gypsys wear some kind of "marker", much like the jews had to wear during the holocaust. All in all I'm under the impression that racism in Italy is going in the totally wrong direction. I don't know about Spain, though, haven't heard anything about that. But I have some disturbing facts from my own country. A party called "Sverigedemokraterna" (The Swedish Democrats) with a clearly racist agenda are like the third or second most popular party among high school students. And all in all it is close to entering the "riksdag" (the Swedish parliament) since it's approaching the required percentage of voters. And there's an even worse party called the "Nationaldemokraterna" (The National Democrats) that are outright nazists, and they're also gaining ground. It's frightening, really.
I don't understand people who thinks like this. In many cases, no "black" person have even ever done anything to them personally. Once a "black" person tried to rob me of my cellphone, and when I didn't give it to him, he punched me full in the face. I found out later that this guy was "famous" in our city for various similar acts. But why the fuck should I hate everyone that has the same origin as him? Or look like him? I don't even hate him. I feel sorry for him, I know people do not just go around and randomly commits "bad acts", it comes from the environment they grow up and live in. His family fled from a country for some reason, to Sweden, and it was not because of meatballs, no, more probably because of war. That is enough to fuck a kid up. Then he comes and lives in the depressing city that is my home, facing much dislike from the moment he sets his foot here, which atleast doesn't make things better.
Racism is just a by-product of fear, ignorance and close-mindedness. Immigrants failing to adjust to soceity is a by-product of unfair living conditions, caused by soceity itself or rather, greedy capitalists in power. -

That's a problem inherent in the US political system. Many countries are set up based on percentages of the population, much like Britain's. In the US, it's sort of a winner take all situation where only one person wins and one party wins. To even be able to come close to winning an election, US politicians have to align themselves with the two major parties, even if their beliefs aren't exactly the same. Just because we don't have the racist political parties doesn't mean we don't have the racists. And yes, I would bet my life savings that more racists vote Republican than Democrat.I do find it somewhat humorus that Britain has a party like the BNP, and several other European parties have similar racist parties (I can show you some if you do not belive me), and that's in tolerant old Europe, but here in hickland North America there are no similar parties.

I know, usually I'll make a joke (you can't actually tell I'm Irish as I'm black Irish/mutt) and around 50% of the time the British person will be seriously pissed and we'll have a shitty relationship from that point on. Bear in mind I haven't met many British people, and never really thought Brits were racist until the BNP thing. But now that I think about it every European country has it's own version of it.the englsih and the irish do have a very informal jokey relationship.
And Kevin you're from Canada so how the hell would you know? -

Thankyou for sharing that with me Shammy. I realize I could've looked it up myself, but other countries politics don't really interest me. It's nothing personal, I just have a hard enough time keeping up with my own political system to worry about the political systems of others.
But I still do see similarities between the BNP and the GOP:
BNP = Britain, Britain, Britain!
GOP = America, America, America!
Both have anti-gay sentiments. And both seem to take a stand against immigration.
Both seem to have so much pride in their country that they box themselves into a state of mind that's impossible to get out of. However, it does seem that the BNP is more determined to reach their goals than the GOP. I've seen some hard-core Republicans go soft. Call it biased, but the BNP seems much more hard-core than the GOP.
And am I the only one who thinks that Nick Griffin looks like Ricky Gervais? -

You're wasting your time, Xin.
Kevin was just trying to be clever and downplay the racists in North America by pointing out the shortcomings of the rest of the world. This is not his fault--It's what our leaders do. He hadn't yet realized that there were actual reasons why he was full of shit before he spoke. This is also not his fault--It's what our leaders do.
How's that working out for you, Kevin? Being clever? -

Subtle.Yes, the GOP is anti-gay, albeit not to the extent many would prefer.

Okay, I got another joke. This is the last one, I swear.
A black guy, a jew, a muslim, an asian, and a white guy all walk into a bar. And the bartender says, "What is this, a fuckin' joke?" -

Makes no sense.Yes, the GOP is anti-gay, albeit not to the extent many would prefer.
Yes, they like to think of their own country as the greatest in the world, as I am sure most people do.
However, they are not racist like the BNP.
That's not racism but thanks for sharing.
As an American who lives in America with Republicans who are American I will say yes, many of them are. No, it's not their party platform but a large amount of Republicans are racist, and an exponentially larger amount are only slightly, possibly subconsciously racist. -

No, saying that you hate homosexuals would be the way to make it blatantly obvious that you're a bigot. The part where you hinted that you thought homosexuality should be banned by the government, that part was subtle.Believe it or not, I don't want to be subtle about my beliefs, so you sarcastically calling me subtle when I'm not is not hurting my feelings.

Ironically, I was raped by a homosexual in 1984. But, she was pretty good lookin' and I rather enjoyed it.
