^ That about sums it up. And he was Jewish. A Jewish carpenter who went around and spread love to people who needed it. All around, a good guy. And then the Romans had to go and whack him because they thought he was a threat to their power. Remember that Jesus was a decendent of King Solomon and therefore, had a right to the Jewish throne. (Or something like that. The details are a bit fuzzy.)
And disneylhand, I'm still reading the Old Testament. I'll get to the New Testament when I'm done with the Old one. (I have to go in order, otherwise it won't make any sense.) -

the deuce?
i didnt want to post something
anyhoo, may as well use it. ermmm,
i think jesus was pretty much what Ace said.
a brilliant person, just not the son of god.
i dont know, might have been mistranslated. dunno, its unlikely but hey. -

I agree with what Ace said above.
In all honesty I think people really take the Bible too literally.
You should believe all of it or none of it, I don't like when people Catholics tell me they don't believe Adam and Eve is a true story it is just a lesson to be told about guilt. Even though that's what I believe it was when it was written, I also believe that most stories in the bible were written for this purpose. For example when Jesus turned the fish and bread into enough for everybody, I don't think he literally did that. What I believe is that this represents overall how Jesus fed the hungry.
I guess I look at everything going on less literally, not necessarily as lies. -

i've also been at gunpoint by a large gang of men in south africa on my last trip out of the country, simply because we were a group of americans, who they hated.
they said they wanted to kill all of us.
...and for some reason or the other, the gang just randomly decided to move on and leave us alone.
is that luck?
maybe.
but i believe it was God.
So actually you're saying God controlled their minds, and their own opinion just suddenly disappeared? Have you ever felt like you're doing something you actually don't want to do, like what happened to the gang? If no, I think that's egocentric. You and the gangpeople are equal. There is no center of the universe other than probably some weird matter. Sorry if I sound hostile here, I am not.
As someone, probably FullMetal said before, there's a pretty logic explanation for those events. Sometimes the chance of an outcome like you've experienced is small, but that doesn't mean it's impossible unless God appears with his miracles... Example:
-Imagine a dice with six sides (shouldn't be hard ). When you roll the dice, the chance that you get a 1 is 1/6. The chance that you get a 2 is 1/6. The chance that you get [insert 3/4/5/6 here] is 1/6. The chance that you get any number is 1/1, there's no way you won't get any number. Clear?
-Now imagine a dice with 1000 sides. When you roll the dice, the chance that you get 249 is 1/1000 or 0,1%, and the same goes for every other number/side. That's obviously a very small chance, but the chance that any number shows up is again 1/1. The chance that [insert random number here] shows up is unlikely, so it's sure that everytime you roll the dice something unlikely is going to happen. I don't need a god for that, a dice will do. -

ehh, i'm not saying God controlled anyones minds.
he doesnt control anyone's mind for that matter.
i just believe that it was him that kept me safe in that situation, as well as the one responsible for healing people right in front of my eyes.
like i said guys, God isnt something we can explain or comprehend.
so yes, there's not really a completely rational explanation for it lol.
this is just what i believe.
i know many of you disagree.
but i stand firm on my beliefs:]
oh, and thanks for everyone being respectful and nobody acting like a total prick lol -

To those who doubt (and likewise, those who believe too), there is one question that must be answered: Why is there something instead of nothing? -

And to that I say: Why did I role a 3 and not a 6? Now I won't get my $200 for passing Go... Dammit!
The point being, any outcome is possible when the number of different outcomes is infinite. I like to think we are an accident in the universe. I also believe there are an infinite number of universes, and infinite number of planets, therefore one of them has to be capable of producing intelligent life. We happen to be on that planet.
Back to the die analogy, if you roll a die enough times, you're guaranteed to roll all of the possible numbers at least once. No matter how many sides your die has, whether it be 6 or 1,000. With equal odds, all outcomes are guaranteed.Edited by FullMetal, 09 August 2009 - 09:07 PM.

I'm not meaning to argue either side here, but this is simply not true. -

To those who believe, what made god, and how or why did he make us?
And gir, your saying that if you roll the die 5 billion times you wont get each outcome at least once? -

I'm saying that just because you roll a 6-sided die and get a 1, that doesn't mean you now have a higher chance of rolling a 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 next time. This is often referred to as the "Law of Averages," which is in fact, statistically incorrect. -

Shit happens. To those who doubt (and likewise, those who believe too), there is one question that must be answered: Why is there something instead of nothing?
This is the kind of thing I think about when I get really good and hammered. -
Midnight Aurora Offline
Gir is also correct.
The odds of rolling a 1 are 1/6.
The odds of rolling a 1 twice in a row are 1/36, but...
The odds of rolling a 1 on that second toss is still 1/6.
Saying the odds are 1/6 is to say that each outcome is equally as likely to occur. In one thousand rolls, it is still possible to never roll a 1, though statistically unlikely. In fact, it's the same probablity to roll all 6 possibilities in six rolls as it is to roll six 1's in a row.
Apply that to the question CoasterForce asked, and you've got your answer. -

^ I don't think that was necessary. People seem to be enjoying a stimulating conversation and up until now I don't recall any such blatant 'jokes'. I believe this subject to be ultimately serious unless you're under the impression life really is just one big 'joke'. Yeah, I, FantastiCo, am saying this.
There's so much I want to respond to and can point out Bible verses for much of what has been said if not everything said. Though that would be an extremely long post I'm sure nobody would read because I wrote it. So I'll just respond to the common question, "If God exists... what created God?"
Well, then what created the creator of God? And what created the creator of the creator of God? It would have to go on and on forever and ever, and thinking such a thing is more senseless than just accepting that God is almighty and self-existent with no beginning and no end. Then also accepting that your tiny human brain will never be able to comprehend such a thing.
Though Jesus is a subject, more important than any. A man with no recorded wrong doings, performed miracles and died on a cross... for what reason? maybe it was for YOU? Now one more thing... you don't save yourself... you repent (turn from sin like doing a complete 180) and yes... you surrender to the Lord. Like hearing him call you... then really just saying, "Yes Lord".Then given the right to become a 'child of God'. I feel he's calling some of you right now. Though there comes a point God has done all he can and will harden your heart because he knows you will never accept the message of the crucifixion.
No more schizophrenic idiocy from FantastiCo. I had my fun, but I'm through. It all changes now. I won't preach if I can help it, but I am a saved man now after years of torment and hell on Earth, so I will be proper. I will probably change my name as well. I'm done with the nonsense. Humor will remain, though more 'sane', but play time is over. -

Jesus isn't calling me. He'd know better than to call for a person like me.
But I was reading Lewis Black's book Me of Little Faith the other day, and one of the chapters mentioned the Second Coming. And Black seemed to hit the nail on the head with this one.
If Jesus were to return, would you not agree that he would find it rather difficult to get through all of this useless media? Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, texting, television, video games, etc. So how would he make himself known to his followers that he had returned? I'd imagine that he would be on top of things and make a MySpace page. Which led me to thinking: What if he already has one?
Which leads to the whole point of this post. I found this page to be slightly amusing, especially the comments.
Also, that fancy church I mentioned earlier have a website. www.ccjasper.com
I browsed the website, and was rather impressed with their mission trip to Haiti (found in the blog). I couldn't find any pictures of the church, but trust me, there's an electronic billboard out front. That's where I got the website. And God loves me, apparently. -

Matthew 24:27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Matthew 24:30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.
Mark 13:26-27 At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
Luke 21:25-28 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift your heads, becasue your redemption is drawing near."
1 Thessalonians 4:15-5:4 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of god, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should suprise you like a thief.
Revelation 1:7 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, " says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
i dont think he'll have a problem making himself known.
