i do not see a single park in any of the team forums that could realistically be submitted earlier than its planned for deadline. -
Turtle Offline
That's not the point. Having the option would be nice, and allows for a little flexibility on behalf of the captains. -
posix Offline
why can you not switch parks just because a matchup hasn't been posted yet? the deadline is independent of the post date. -
Panic Offline
The only thing I'd recommend is to release the parks 2 days apart instead of 3 to 5. Having to submit for Week B before you know how week A turned out can be disadvantageous for the reasons Levis outlined, and while it's not really that big a deal, when the only reason it happens is so that everybody can watch a blowout creep upward from 20-4 to 23-5 over the course of 24 hours, there's something out of line. Sure, it's fun to watch a nailbiter run its course, but having another match going on simultaneously would have absolutely no negative impact on that. It worked fine in the first four H2Hs.
I understand the motivation to milk it for all it's worth by staggered releases a la High Rollers, but this is spaced out too far.Edited by Panic, 07 May 2009 - 09:39 AM.

I think its really vital to know how the voting is going from the previous round to know what tweaks to make to your park. If the voters generally commented on a lack of flats, you add a flat. If they were quite okay with unfinished but high-quality work then you can focus on making the parts you have really great without adding filler. -
J K Offline
I understand both sides but I too agree that it would benefit teams to know how their previous round went. Incase a park lost all of a sudden and you had to win the next round, you'd swap a park to have a better chance of winning. It just seems right. -

please act stupid somewhere else.
you build what YOU want. not what the voters want.
this game is about having fun, not about making as much fame as possible.
sorry .... maybe I go to far but I just cant stand this kind of talk.
when I say I want to know the outcome that is because a park can be done before its deadline sometimes. especially in the later round if the captains plans well.
it can be a disadvantage not knowing what you done. also it can make you chose for example to let a better parkmaker work on a final park already and stop working on the round 5 park if you know you are in the finals already. -

Seriously, you're a walking, talking, living, breathing contradiction.
You repeatedly say that RCT is all about having fun and that one should only build to please themselves....then you vehemently defend your park against the opinions of others in the community when they don't salivate over your creations. Even going as far as offering up:
Why would that matter if you only built it for your own personal enjoyment? It wouldn't. If you truly only played the game for your own pleasure, why would you even go as far as posting a screen in a community forum? You wouldn't. There would be no need. The simple truth is that everyone that's ever posted any of their work for public consumption has done so to gain some form of recognition/acceptance from others. And, anyone that's ever entered any sort of contest has done so with the intention of winning. Because losing is not fun.....and, it's all about the fun, right?you see....people have no education anymore and they dont understand the park .....
You say that winning/losing a matchup is irrelevant...as long as you enjoyed building your entry. Then you go nuts when you fail and not only defend your creation but, attempt to insult the intelligence of anyone that doesn't share your opinion or fully comprehend what your personal 'vision' was.
Don't be ignorant. When you're in a competition, you do what's necessary to emerge victorious. Sure, you build what you enjoy building but, you also try to get votes. If you're smart enough to take clues from what you've witnessed in prior matches and use it to your advantage, you do it.
That's called 'common sense'.
And...winning is fun. Trust me (I guess you'll kinda have to).
Stop calling my teammates anything but winners and....get on with round 3 (3rd time's a charm, right?).Rct is about having fun, but H2H is serious business.
Damn straight it is....spoken like a true Whzz Kid. -

A while back I left the community for a half year ... but it was clear some couldn't let me keep on my own. so the reason I'm in the community and share screens is cause I want to help others with theire problems with the game and I want to show them how I enjoy the game. so maybe they will find more joy in that also. sharing the fun is double the fun.
but i'm not going to discus about this anymore. I've done it to much already and the ones who understand me are probally elementalists or will get an invitation for something after h2h. -

actually everyone seems to be contradicting themselves today
leo you make a good point but then you go on further to act like the results should somehow skew your schedule where you don't have to finish a park because you've already made it to the finals. I've never agreed with this sort of "strategy" in H2H. If you (and that means our team) want to practice what you preach then you'd have everyone complete a park for every week regardless of finals positions and to hell with the outcome.... which I hope is where we are at.
and K0NG, you seem willing to admit that we want to build what we like but then go on to say that we should have "common sense" and take a hint from these to gain votes which pretty much means stop building what we want so we get votes. You can't really have one with the other unless you already build in a more realistic style. If I have a cool idea for an underwater sea base or a volcano eruption on Mars I'm not going to then stop myself and think "oh wait, I want to do that but I can't because then we will lose votes"
It all just depends on what different people like to see in rct and that's it. I still stand by the fact that I don't really care about winning too much. It would be nice but nothing that means I have to somehow make sacrifices in the game just to win. If someone can tell me what I (or anyone for that matter) should be striving to win I would agree but you really can't. This isn't PT so there is no money at stake, no press attention if you win the big game, no trophies to take home and place on the mantle and no (real) fame or glory. Where does the fun part come in?
So your argument seems based on the fact that winning for winning's sake is purely more fun but again, if winning means I have to cater to other people I'll pass because building what I want to is fun enough. In sports you are exactly right because winning means (usually) having a higher skill level than the opposite team in the exact same activity. But there's too much variation in RCT to really make a comparison to that imo, our H2H matches would be like comparing a baseball team to a basketball team because the approaches to the game are just that different. And yes, you can enjoy and build in both styles/games but personally I get excited about specific ideas, most of which just aren't going to be considered realistic or even a "park". I do wish our team could be a little more competitive but as far as our team having to "take the hint" as you put it, I just can't agree with that statement.
And to sum up, I don't think it's "better" to build fantasy or that it is trying to be contrary and build "just to show them" or prove a point... it's just where I get my enjoyment from the game. -

I don't see how you can compare H2H as being two totally separate games like basketball vs. football. You just can't do that. We all are using RCT and have access to the same platform as the other team. Unlike basketball where you use skills and work as a team to score points and try to have more, the game of H2H is won by gaining votes, so it's only obvious to try and appeal to the majority of the voting community to win. So yeah, it's strategic to build what people want to see. Sorta like politics to gain the majority.
You can't criticize people who are trying to appeal to the majority to win just like you can't criticize people who build exactly what they want and don't care if they win. But as soon as one person crosses the line and complains or contradicts their belief, it gets kinda annoying. -
Milo Offline
You're right, and I'm not trying to bring people down for building to appeal but I really don't see how winning is the ultimate goal to h2h either and that my team should change. I really have to ask... why? And the way you play the game is very different from the way I approach the game just as what we expect to see different things in parks, which is what I was trying to point out. -

Levis isn't really contradicting himself, K0ng has obviously never played Apples to Apples. You do what you want then make that win. That's how the Elementalists plays H2H, and when it works they'll get a park they can be proud of AND a win. Way better than selling out the whole contest to win... a contest on a hobby website with no reward. -

Saying that the only reason to play RCT is the fun of it, that winning is meaningless and then complaining vociferously about people not 'getting' your park because they're not educated enough and that the community is all askew when you're losing isn't contradictory?
And no, I've never even heard of "Apples to Apples", whatever that has to do with my posts. I've not once said that anyone should change the way they're doing things, that anyone should "take the hint" or, that anyone should 'adapt' to the environs of the competition. Just that, if your style isn't gathering votes....don't whine about it. Nothing more, nothing less. Oh, and don't talk down to my teammates by telling them that they're "acting stupid" if they happen to disagree with you or you can expect a prompt reply.
And, I'm curious as to who it is that's "selling out" anything? Let alone the whole contest. A contest on a 'hobby' website with no reward other than bragging rights. Bragging rights at a 'hobby' website that's as full of ego as Manny Ramirez is full of HCG lately. -

@ milo -> I'm only stateting something which could happen. I don't say it will be done by us (unless the builders themself want it I wont do it), it can be done by any team.
rest I wont reply to anymore, clearly k0ng and I are on two different frequenties, so whatever I say will be alter to fit his point of view and in that way contradict something else I say. so I wont even try anymore. if you want to know what I mean just read my posts clearly and try to read between the lines. -
