So, 25 maps? Even if you're filling some with mostly water, it should be ridiculous. I'm guessing these maps won't be maximum size though, couldn't you figure out a way to do it in fours, with 256*256 maps? 'Four maps', one rct saved game? I mean, it would take forever just to look through! Although I do somehow think you'll finish, I doubt the interest it will bring in the end. I think a smaller version of this plan would be much more suited.
That's exactly the thing I can advise you to do, because if you'll loose the interest in such an enormous project, the work would be of no earthly use.
Apart from that, you must be very self-confident, aren't you? -

Even though I agree with the last few comments, I'm just gonna say good luck James! If you make it through the whole thing you'll be a true RCT legend

The problem with having a few large maps vs. several smaller ones, is the objects that can be used. Take the airport for example. James will be able to pick objects that will be great for an airport, rather than have to use the animal park objects in it, etc.. -

Todd has really hit the nail on the head, however there are a few other reasons for my madness
1 - I need to feel the sense of accomplishment. Think of this as my version of a design. What is it about a design that attracts so many poeple to build? It takes less time to finish it over an actual park. With this concept, when I finish a resort, I can release it. I know others will not care for it however it puts a a sense of closure and then I move on.
2 - Object selection/limits - I can taylor the objects to the map at hand as Todd mentioned above.
3 - Ability to shift focus at any time and not force anything. This helps with my motivation.
With all that said, I know 25 maps is huge and I also know I will never finish this. The difference is I know that gong into it. This project has taken lesson learned from the Marriott project and have taken steps to help prevent the problems I had. I have seen many masive single map projects get started here and only a fraction ever get finished. This is just my crazy way of doing it. Hell, no one that I would finish the original Marriott Project yet 8 Maps were completed and released. The only reason that project is not continuing is that there was no expandability for what I wanted to do. This solves it.
Hope this explains it a bit more

Misc Comments
Still trying to come up with the branding for this project. I’m leaning towards using the Marriott tag once again as I really enjoyed using it before however I’m still looking at other options. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. As for updates, I'm going to try and provide weekly updates going forward on what has taken place. Most of these will be similar to this one indicating what was worked on. These may include SS's if there is enough to show however it’s probably going to be a SS every 2-3 weeks though. That said, I’m going to try and keep this project as open as possible.
Thanks again.

i think we could merge all 25 full scale aerials into one later and have a seamless transition. would be rather interesting.
james, i hope you'll have a blast when actual construction begins. can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves. -

Todd - I'm thinking more of a resort branding (ie Marriott, Sharaton, Hyatt, ect) that I can use for the project as I did for the Marriott Project. Part of me wants to do Marriott again as I want another attempt at MGA and even MMW. I really loved the concept of what the real MGA was about and had a blast building that park.
As for the football stadium, that will have it's own and I have a good idea for that one.
Phil - Thanks and I do have a working aerial set up to where I can fit each map into it's place.

My suggestions were more of a joke, I threw the Lehman Brothers in there in hopes that it would make the joke obvious... -

I would distance from Marriott as they've already done the whole park thing, so there's a distinct model present. I'd pick up something totally new so you can define this super-resort style thing. Hyatt would be nice, I think. They're pretty huge in the hotel business at least.
Also, for the resorts-- if you do a hotel with an atrium like John Portman, then I'll love you forever. That would be fantastic. -

CP6 - Thanks and I have made my decision and it won't be Marriott. As for atrium, I had already planned on that.
Project Status #2 - 2/1/09
Main Entrance/Parking Map – Anticipated release date 5-1-09
- Minimal progress on this map this past week. Because of that, I'm pushing the expected release date out a month.

- Progress has been screaming along this week, once the final design was put in place.

- Number of floors: 33!
Theme Park – Anticipated release date 1-1-10
- No progress this week.
Misc Comments
All in all, a great week as progress continues to be steady. I'm hoping to be able to post a SS of the resort in the next update.
