So I finally downloaded Winhack v2.00 to try this hex editing stuff so I can try to make my park suitable for non-RCTM viewers. I've read through Levis's tutorials and to be honest it mostly went straight over my head. But I thought I'd give it a go anyway.
When I open up Winhack, though, and choose the RCT2.exe process, the box on the right displays the message This program cannot be run in DOS mode. I've tried using compatibility settings to no avail.
I thought I'd got this kind of problem worked out after weeks of frustration trying to get 8cars to work. But no. I'm bloody sick of bloody computers! The fun of playing rct is quickly diminishing with all these STUPID problems AAAARRRGHHHH!!!! I'm starting to feel like it's all more trouble than it's worth.
Anyway, can anyone shed any light on this issue?Edited by Xophe, 26 October 2008 - 03:38 AM.

Hex editing is the basis of every useful trainer. Are they jokes? And this is why RCTM should be allowed... Hex Editing is a joke.

It does work after all! Apparently it gives that message every time but it still works.
I still don't get it at all, though. I went through the tutorials and managed to find a land tile coloured uniquely. But when I put an object on the tile nothing seems to happen in winhack. According to the tutorials, the object should be in the next block of memory after the land tile it's on, but for me it isn't. I've managed to change the appearance of a land tile (eg changing dirt to snow) and changing the heights, but when I build an object on that tile and then change the height value of the next memory block it just changes the height of the neighbouring land tile instead of raising the object.
I don't understand!! -

Nevermind. I don't know what I was doing wrong but I got it to work yay!
Now to try it in a park full of stuff...
edit: I take it you always get error trappers when building on those tiles now? Wonderful...Edited by Xophe, 25 October 2008 - 04:32 PM.

Not necessarily. I haven't used it in ages, but it will be CLOSE to the land tile. you can generally pick them out because there's a lot of 00s, and then you'll see one with numbers of substance. If you need to narrow it down, raise the height a bit by a couple clicks and move it back until you find the right one. Eventually you'll see the patterns and It will get easier, but until then... Trial and error. It does work after all! Apparently it gives that message every time but it still works.

If you set the land to a height that's on a quarter tile, error trappers might happen... To fix it, just copy the byte of a different land tile and make it match. Divide the hex number for height by 4. If it doesn't come out to a whole number, you fucked up. Or if you changed the last bit to FF, you'll get fun results of varying degrees. Sometimes error trapper, sometimes inviable rides, sometimes blue screen of death....Edited by Midnight Aurora, 26 October 2008 - 12:24 AM.
