You lose the ability to live your life to the full.
This is such a fucking ignorant stereotype. What am I missing out on in life that you non-religious guys are doing? I drink, party, and have a good time. When you guys go out for a fun night of murdering, however, I might stay home.
God wants us to be happy, as long as we are faithful. So don't be an ignorant prick. Thanks.
And if anything, having God in my life gives me meaning. So, I'd say I'm living my "life to the full."
And all you guys who continuously bash religion need to pick up some new ammunition, because the shit you continuously spew out is so fucking ignorant and condescending. And I know you'll say something like "look what Kevin says to us and tell us its not condescending." Not all of us go about things the same way as him. I won't bash him, because he's really passionate, and I respect that, but don't look at all of us like we just sit around doing nothing but laugh at the thought of gays and atheists burning in hell. -

Does it even matter if it's true or not? I'll take my chances: nothing to lose, everything to gain.
hmm, this doesn't seem like a very good reason to believe. if there is a god, do you really think he would be satisfied with the fact that you only believed in him because you had "nothing to lose and everything to gain"? sounds a bit backwards to me.
and zburns, i know what you're saying. christians are very nice people and some of my friends are christians. i do, however, notice that all of them are extremely less tolerant than non-christians and yes, i see that as a bad thing. that doesn't mean that i sit there and bash on them all day and laugh at their ignorance either.. it's just that in my eyes, anything that obstructs you from accepting others for any reason is not good.
i don't see kevin's passion in a good light, either. it makes him way too arrogant. -

of course i would accept them as people. everyone on this earth has a right to be loved and accepted.
frankly, if the person is a child mollester, there's probably something wrong upstairs in the first place. that doesn't mean that we can just cast this person aside; they obviously need to get the help they deserve.
however, i think i was a little too unspecific in my statement. i meant more along the lines of things people can't control - to me, being gay is not a choice. at all. that just doesn't make sense!
people's actions, however, can mostly be controlled (in this case, however, it might not be controllable, as this person has mental issues anyways) and it's people ACTIONS that i disagree with, not the person.Edited by thorpedo, 09 November 2008 - 09:59 AM.

And I don't laugh at the thought of gays and atheists and gatheists (a little word I find funny) burning in Hell, in fact, I get depressed, thinking of billions of people being tortured forever, what is their to laugh about? In my opinon, very, very, very, very, very, very few people deserve that, but in God's opinion, all the non-Christians deserve that, and He's the Rulemaker

There isn't enough room in the universe for all the dead. There will be lots of creatures or even people from other planets. So not much room. I believe we are the most technologically advanced of them all which is why none have reached us yet. Well they probably have.Edited by JJ, 09 November 2008 - 01:13 PM.

Well of fucking course I believe in him, that's just my response to atheists who care so much about me possibly being wrong.hmm, this doesn't seem like a very good reason to believe. if there is a god, do you really think he would be satisfied with the fact that you only believed in him because you had "nothing to lose and everything to gain"? sounds a bit backwards to me.
Okay, to flesh it out, you know that story about Mother Terresa doubting her faith? It's a bit like that, and my above philosophy helps keep me in.Edited by Dr_Dude, 09 November 2008 - 01:26 PM.

minime, wtFF would you say that? You have just thrown into disrepute the memory of a man of great intelligence without even offering a weak argument, or anything substantial at all. -

What a crazy world we live in.I love the thought that humans are constantly striving for perfection and a altogether better life but will never be able to reach it -

"People will then often say, 'But surely it's better to remain agnostic, just in case?' This, to me, suggests such a level of silliness and muddle that I usually edge out of the conversation rather than get sucked into it. If it turns out that I've been wrong all along, and there is in fact a god, and if it further turned out that this kind of legalistic, cross-your-fingers-behind-your-back, Clintonian hair-splitting impressed him, then I think I would choose not to worship him anyway."hmm, this doesn't seem like a very good reason to believe. if there is a god, do you really think he would be satisfied with the fact that you only believed in him because you had "nothing to lose and everything to gain"? sounds a bit backwards to me.

"Believing there is no God gives me more room for belief in family, people, love, truth, beauty, sex, Jell-O, and all the other things I can prove and that make this life the best life I will ever have."You lose the ability to live your life to the full.

"I refuse to believe in a god who is the primary cause of conflict in the world, preaches racism, sexism, homophobia, and ignorance, and then sends me to Hell if I'm 'bad'."What am I missing out on in life that you non-religious guys are doing? I drink, party, and have a good time. When you guys go out for a fun night of murdering, however, I might stay home.

"Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men."
~Francis Bacon~
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."Well, god is a complete Dick

Just because I used other people's words to either support or denounce what people have said in this thread does not make it a pathetic post. The first reason why I posted quotes from famous people is because it shows that I am not alone in my views. The people who said these things, and myself, feel the the same way about religion. The second reason is because I felt that these people could express my/our opinions in a much more eloquent, humororous, or understandable manner. That was the single most pathetic piece of shit excuse for a post I have seen in my life.
You did nothing except quote other people.
Besides, you quote people all the time.
