Yes MA, but that's the point of keeping him around, it isn't about him.
now...
KEVIN.
There is NOTHING in the bible that states WHY homosexuality is bad. It can simply be interpreted as such, and it has been for over a thousand years with no real reason other than misplaced guilt, fear, confusion, and insecurity.
1)Gay sex can be clean, so saying that AIDS/HIV is a reason doesn't work unless you, kevin, would like to stop eating pork and chicken. They are filthy diseased animals, why would you put them in your body? Is your body not a temple? You see this horrid logic creates an obvious double standard which christians are happy to ignore.
On top of that, female-female sex is actually the cleanest/least risky; is cleaner and less risky than straight sex. MODERN society keeps finding ways to make acts from the bible that are said to be sinful no longer hurtful through knowledge and technology, and will continue to debunk and obsolete your precious book until there isn't even a good reason behind anything it claims is harmful except that which hurts or defrauds others directly.
2) The passages and stories from the bible that attempt to illustrate how homosexuality is indecent all fall short or have nothing to do with homosexuality itself. The bible paints homosexuality as a form of wanton lust to the point of self-destruction, and that it leads to the acceptance of other decadent behavior. Judging by the gay people I have met in my life versus the straight people, straight people are the ones who can't keep their dicks in their pants, or can't take no for an answer once they are horny. Gay people are actually LESS lustful than straight people as a whole, from my experience. And from what I've seen, gay people are at no more risk of decadence than straight people.
Same goes for when the bible pigeon-holes gay sex as a form of rape, or that the only creatures that would partake in gay sex are the kind who use sex as a form of control. This is obviously not true, straight guys are far more "alpha male", alpha males are the kind of males that end up as rapists and sex offenders.
There is only one parallel I CAN actually make: gay people, in the face of knowing their own character, and having that character assumed to be something it is clearly not because of what they identify as, see the inherent hypocrisy in saying it is that very thing.
The fact that I can think of a plethora of reasons why it is not that thing, and no reasons of why it could be destructive as concept should illustrate my point.
3)If you don't want your kids to learn that it is "ok", then it's your responsibility to ensure that for them yourself. It's on YOU, not society. The same with sexual safety, sex before marriage, masturbation, and everything else the good book warns us vehemently not to do no matter what. God did smote that one guy who dared to spill his seed upon the ground or something like that... lets just say there are CHUNKS of the bible YOU don't fucking respect, recognize, nor follow. You ignore your own damn book, selectively. You certainly follow the idea that homosexuality is an abomination, but really only because you are so childishly grossed out by it in the first place. It's not something your ego deals with very well, so it's an easy thing for you to attack without remorse like the heathen you are.
4)Oh yes, and that silly "it's not natural" angle? Ha. You know what else is not natural? Microwaves, carbon nanotubes, plastics, central heating, cher's hair... There are an innumerable amount of things you use in your life that couldn't have been dug up or sought out. They had to be created. An engineer understands this: that which is made for one use, may have alternative uses by analogue. They understand that just because something was made with only one use in mind, doesn't necessarily bar it from being used in another capacity. A chair is for sitting, but I'm sure you've used one to reach a really high shelf or as a stepping stool to get up something. What's wrong with that, hm?
And the other thing that destroys the "it's not natural" argument? The fact that we see this kind of utilization by other genus of mammals and other creatures. No really, not just the sex part (but yes, that too - see dolphins, bonobo, praying mantis, etc). In case of the praying mantis, they have evolved in such a way that the female eating the males head mid coitus is how they nourish the fertilized eggs. The male even has neural clusters in it's abdomen so that even though the head in gone, he will still continue to pump.
Multiple uses, one tool. Dolphins have sex for pleasure. Bonobo's and baboons have sex to strengthen or delineate social relationships within a group. Really though, this is pointless to tell you, who thinks god put chicken on the earth to taste good.
5) One more thing I'd like to point out is what Jimemo covered is absolutely the case. They've done study after study, polled large numbers of families over and over and over... The facts came back: gay parents are better for children psychologically than a SINGLE parent. Sure, the dynamic of having a mother and father might be unique but to say it is necessary is a misnomer. You, not having had children thus far in life, have no fucking clue on the matter. I don't either, that's why I researched these polls and cases so thoroughly.
So yeah... you, like all of us have pointed out for the millionth time, just have your brain damaged head stuck up your ass like no other.
Aaaaaaand here it is, the closing statement for me in this discussion.
Kudos to you Blitz!

omg Kevin you're mom is such a daredevil i'd be cautious about that if i were you. don't want to go too over the top. -

kevin, you are the brick wall, not me. I explain my position with logic. You don't. Your reasoning? It fails because it's based on things that have no logical basis, they just are. When you base what you say on the because I/god said so principle, everyone is going to look like a brick wall to you. "Why can't they understand?" you think. Well, you'd have to convince them of why, logically, the things they are doing are harmful. Having utterly failed to do so, you have now given up on our conversation. -

When does heaven get updated to in keep with todays modern society?
Im pretty sure most of the things i like to spend my time doing weren't 'placed' by 'god' all those years ago -

Kevin, the fact that you think that is relevant is actually proof that you are, in truth, brainwashed.-a traditional family imo is the best-and don't say I'm brainwashed, because my mom has a job OUTSIDE THE HOME

I think I've heard at least 20 different versions of the "The first thing I'll do when I get into office" from the time he's stepped into the spotlight through today. He's just a tease. -

"so I am going to pray for you, and maybe Jesus will do something in your life, because it's clearly out of my hands now, there are other lost sheep out there who may be more receptive."
Kevin, that is the most condescending thing I have ever heard come out of a human's mouth (so to speak). You're going to PRAY FOR HIM because he's a "lost sheep"? Give me a fucking break. Never have I seen words that are so high-and-mighty.
No wonder Christianity is looked down up here with the way you talk to people. -

thorp, it's actually a pretty common way for highly religious people to think. In fact, Jewish scholars in israel universities have basically boiled the whole "just is" mentality down to this:
In many instances, human do not possess the capacity to understand the influences and consequences of certain actions/sins/etc., and god does not expect you to understand. Only know that it's in the book, therefore god said it, and you should follow knowing that you are in gods hands and that this is what he says you should and shouldn't do.
That's the jist of their thinking: God has his reasons, it isn't your place to question, only to follow. The "how" is not important to them, as they assume they cannot ever fully understand, and the "why" is always left to god as doing so lets them believe their path is righteous no matter the mistakes they make on earth. That's why it is impossible to convince them, even in the face of overwhelmingly sound logic and empirical evidence, that homosexuality harms none.
It is also how they excuse heinous actions, and still think they are going to heaven even as they are filled with hate and bigotry. -

^but god didn't write the books humans did, and humans are flawed.
So they also do not understand god's word and they may have misunderstood cos they don't understand god's words so will have written something from their point of view, just one persons.Edited by JJ, 08 November 2008 - 11:44 AM.

Standing by for the common christian's circular logic argument from kevin describing why the bible is still considered gods word even though it was written by man in 3...2...1.. -

"I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world."
~Richard Dawkins~
"To surrender to ignorance and call it 'God' has always been premature, and it remains premature today."
~Isaac Asimov~
"Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned."
~Anonymous~
In my studies of the Bible, I have only reached Exodus. But so far, it seems to me that God is an asshole. And there are so many cracks in this story that hardly any of it makes sense. I'll give my favorite examples that show that Adam and Eve couldn't have been the first humans, as is commonly thought:
"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
~Genesis 1:27-28~
Then on the seventh day, God rests, and sanctifies that day as the Sabbath. Then:
"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed life into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."
~Genesis 2:7~
Clearly, God created mankind before he created Adam. This idea is further solidified through Cain:
"Then Cain went out from the pressence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son--Enoch."
~Genesis 4:16-17~
Excluding the fact that Cain should have been killed by his wife, but was not (Gen 4:14-15), where did Cain's wife come from? There is no mention of Eve, so we cannot asume that it was Eve that bore Cain's child. It just doesn't add up.
And there are multiple examples of cracks such as these that lead me to question the integrity of Christianity/Catholicism/Judeism.
And though this has nothing to do with Obama being president, it does follow suit with the current arguement over religion. -

fullmetal, it's really DUH: You aren't supposed to question the book!
Didn't you know? If you didn't question the book, you wouldn't be so skeptical right now!
There are no cracks, you just don't understand it -
