ugh nokia i hate you lol
i saw confide and sleeping with sirens last week.
both were surprisingly very very tight live, and vocals were spot on.
the vocalist/drummer from confide was absolutely PERFECT live.
no joke, the dude was completely on pitch the entire show and actually sounded way better than on cd.
which surprised me, because he's playing drums at the same time lol.
as for upcoming shows, i have shows this week on thursday/friday/saturday, and then next friday:] -

Have to play a gig tomorrow with In-Quest in Ostend
Really hyped up about it since we are expecting a large crowd and the fact that we have a few surprises in store for the audience will make it all the more fun... -

Taking the kids (19 & 15) to see Green Day(again) w/AFI Aug. 31 at Verizon (Irvine Meadows). Talk all the shit you want about GD but, being an ex-rocker....these guys fucking put on a show like few others can. Same reason I took them to see KISS....to see how it should be done.
You can try to be clever and 'sophisticated' and above the norm all you want...but NOTHING beats sweat, heart, honesty and the ability to make 30,000 people sincerely believe that they're actually at your 'party'. Very few acts can accomplish this. -

except the ones that can do that while playing MUSIC that has heart and honesty in it. like Manchester Orchestra. -

i want to see :
muse
killers
red hot chilli peppers
also, i think one of my biggest dreams is to become what you describe, K0NG. its a skill learned rather than taught. -

Actually, and not to be argumentative here SSSlammy, but it's a talent more than a skill and it can't be learned...only developed. You have to be born with a certain amount of it and you can refine it over time, much like a 7 foot basketball player. You can't teach or learn to be tall either. -

agreed.
thats something that i'm striving to achieve right now with my band.
granted, we are a complete different style.
but hey, i LEARNED how to play by listening to Van Halen/SRV/KISS.
so i definitely appreciate the good rock and how its meant to be done.
while i do play a different style, and even though my band hasnt been around too long, i'm already noticing a huge change in our audience.
shoot, we're packing venues now and theres tons of kids crowded around us singing our lyrics at the top of their lungs.
and we've never even met them!
haha
we played two shows on the west coast of florida last weekend, and we were received like celebrities. it was insane.
everyone knew who we were, and knew our music.
i appreciate the amazing show skills of such greats like that.
and we're trying to somehow channel that same energy and passion into our music and scene:] -

"Talent" is just an excuse not to do something. Someone might be better at it or quicker to learn it, but the deciding factor is determination to do it. (Practice enough and you can be a damn good basketball player at 5'7". Sure, you might not be as good as if you were 7' and put in the same practice, but that's not the point.)it's a talent more than a skill and it can't be learned...only developed.
Anyway, to bring this somewhat back on topic...
What's a good way to find local shows? I used to go see a friend's band play, but they've since broken up and the venue's been closed down. I know there are local bands still playing, but I'm not sure where any venues are. And I'd like to start going out again.

what style music are you interested in seeing?
and what area are you from?
myspace music is great for this sort of thing.
depending on where you're from, i can send you a list of upcoming shows in that area.
it all depends on if its a scene i'm familiar with lol -

Ted Leo put on a an absolutely great concert last night at the First Unitarian Church in Philly last night. Dude sang and played guitar for almost 2 hours straight. After the set, his band stayed backstage and he came out by himself and did 4 songs before the band joined him for 2-3 more. Fucking ridiculous.
Bonobo at The Note in West Chester, Pa tonight was absolutely mind blowing. Look this band up if you won't know, because this performance was just incredible. -
