Contests / The Next Contest

I discussed this with gee last night and we're in the process of figuring out the details to see if this would be feasible. As it stands, the "Pro's" would basically be anyone with an NE accolade, the "Am's" would obviously be anyone without. It boils down to ranking the Pro's (after signups)for draft spots and figuring out a way to ensure that the "Am's" build an acceptable amount on each entry. Then, we can finalize specifics like duration, time limits, etc. if it all works out.

I disagree with that technique of choosing who's a Pro or not
There's really only like 10 standouts here without an accolade, and that limits the amount of parks too much. Especially since I bet only around half of them would be down

It can't really be parkmaker and non-parkmaker either because that brings up the same limitation
In the end though people like me should be on the Am side of things not the Pro

One idea is to have something like the accolade panel and then everybody who joins is rated and say a 16 or above is Pro

Making the 'Pros' anyone who has won an accolade wouldn't work; there would be more 'Pros' than 'Ams' I think. Maybe a ranking of the participants and base the pairing off of that? It wouldn't be fair if the best 'Pros' paired up with the best 'Ams.'

    pro= silver and beyond?
    no designs and bronze?

Put everyone who wants to participate on a list, Let everyone select their top 5, and the ones who are voted the most are the Pros, and as you could have guessed, the lowest, are the ones who have zero or a few votes.

Yeah but in that situation, parkmakers should already be in the "Pros" category so exclude them from the lists.

And what would happen if there was an uneven number of RCT2 and LL players leaving people partner-less? I seriously think the success of any future contest will rely upon its simplicity. I think the Pro-Am is an interesting idea if done correctly but if you're after a contest that would produce the highest number of quality entries I'd stand by a Hi-Rollers set-up.

As a side note; wasn't it interesting back in the day when no one knew who had completed an entry? Then when the results were announced everyone waited in anticipation to see who had entered and where they placed, with more often than not a surprise entry (usually by Mala) sneaking in and taking the crown. This wouldn't be possible with these sort of formats.

Either way I'm more "solo-pro" as I find those contests more interesting, so once again I'm for the pt4/HR2 idea, and while I like the anonymous thing at times its just unnecessary due to the fact that many peoples styles are so different that regardless of a name behind it we already know who has made the park.

To be honest, the pro-am thing sounds really interesting, but it would be difficult getting equal matching with it, especially if a good pro gets a really good am, but another pro gets a not-so-good am...

Hi-Rollers would be awesome, as it offers the solo part of PT without the craziness of the prelims, which means less work.

we could always re-use/modify the MMM bracket
I agree that it sounds good in theory but i think there are some serious practical problems to overcome first.

Hi-Rollers presents few to none of those problems.

Hi-Rollers is THE thing to do for a new contest.

I'd really like to see another Park Wars. With the current trend of realistic parkmaking and timeline parks, it would be a really popular and fun idea I think. Other than PT and H2H i've always thought it was one of the better contest ideas.

^It didn't work 2005 and 2008, so I doubt it will this time. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but a more simple solo or duo contest would work better imo.

I like the pro/am idea. Only thing I dont like about it is not being able to chose who you work with, but I can see the point to that.

Hi Rollers 2 is my pick or H2H6. I just hope whatever it is we start when summer starts, otherwise it will be likely to fail.

I enjoyed Park Wars a lot the first time. It'd be cool to see something like that again, but 5dave is right. We tried to restart that before and it didn't really happen. It also would take a lot more work from administration folks to handle all the rules.

I'd absolutely love Park Wars to take place again, though I don't think it would ever work without administrative backing.

I'm for the "pro/am-contest" and I think "pro" should be only parkmakers and "am" should be everyone else.
If it would come this way I would love to build with CedarPoint6 or 5Dave.
  • K0NG%s's Photo
That was my initial idea....though it would then be dependent on the amount of parkmakers that have interest. And, there would have to be a draft of some sort so that the pairings could be at least somewhat on an even field so, parkmakers would be ranked with the lowest ranked "Pro" having fist choice of his "Am" teammate and so on. I'm thinking that we could have a sign-up and then GigaG could set up a poll where the community could rank the parkmakers (IMO, the most fair way) and then an ensuing draft. Anyone with ideas on time limits and duration, please feel free to post them and maybe we can get something rolling by summer.

I like the idea for the Pro/Am contest, too. :)
    Sounds interesting.

In my opinion people, who has a gold-accolade, should be pros too.
