Men's trampolining final just happened, if anyone cares. A good friend took a silver medal, should have taken gold in my opinion, which is good. But another good friend was literally cheated out of gold, and ended up 5th. So frustrating. -

I saw some of that. Good stuff. What was your friend's name? I didn't see the results... -

Jason Burnett got the silver, and Yuri Nikitin came fifth, but compete one of the best routines, if not the best one, in my opinion. -

i was checking those participant lists for your name with great attention -

I competed at the some of the same competitions as Jason Burnett a few years ago, not the same event though. I mostly did tumbling/double mini. Excellent difficulty for him.
And truly, I think that the commentators for the womens and mens gymnastics, mainly Tim Daggot, are making everything thing worse then they are, (As well as Bela Keroyli) even though I have great respect for the Keroyli's, if America was winning over China, and the Chinese gymnasts were the ones getting somewhat screwed, he would not be complaining. I really think that Nastia is great at bars, but to me He Kexin had to nicer style, more originality, and, even though stupid Tim thinks her 1.5 pirouette was a problem, Nastia had the exact same problem on the low bar, on a very simple skill. And she had other balance checks in her handstands, which, although are not major deductions, probably cost her the gold. I was actually hoping for Yang Yilin to step up and win, but once again, a missed handstand.... All and all though, the right gymnasts were on the podium, but I was hoping for Semenova to make it, but her difficulty wasn't there.Edited by jusmith, 19 August 2008 - 05:50 PM.

I didn't even see the uneven bars (I arrived during the complaining), but during the all around gymnastics event, both Chinese gymnasts performed poorly (relatively speaking, of course) during the balance beam portion, and both got high scores. So that, combined with several other judgments being called into question, makes me think that there was indeed some crappy judging going down. But like you said, at least the results usually turned out alright.

Oh yeah, Jem could have gone to the Olympics. Awesome.
btw, Anyone see that American hurdler mess up on that last hurdle to lose the race? That has to suck... -

I saw that, she did so well to stay on her feet.
Posix, the long story cut short is this...
Last year I was out for the whole year (2007) with a slipped disk, and did not compete. The qualification for the country's place took place at the 2007 World Champs, at which our 4 men failed to get into the top 16, thus not gaining GB a men's place. (I am not saying if I was fit I would have got into the top 16, i've never got higher than 30th in a senior World level competition, it's just a pity).
Consequently, the would-have-been Olympic trials in 2008 became the trials for the senior European championships, during which I was ranked 4th overall in GB, and qualified for the team (I should point out that I was nowhere near full fitness, and later in the year won a national senior competition). So even if we had got a place, I didn't compete well enough at the trials to have qualified for the team. However, it's now all about 2012, where we automatically qualify at least one men's place, regardless of results at the 2011 World Championships (which are in Birmingham, home crowd YEAH!). So, the plan is to be ranked first in the trials for the 2012 Olympics, thus fulfilling my dream, and sorting my life.
Gwazi, I knew quite a few guys at the Olympics, it's really exciting to see them all compete.
jusmith, I never knew you did tumbling and DMT, that's awesome! I used to compete in DMT, did ok at junior worlds and europeans, but was never as good as i was at tramp, so i concentrated on that. nice to know someone on these boards has some idea about what i'm talking about! -

That's awesome, is all I can say.
I wish I knew some people at the Olympics (one specifically =P )... -

I know someone who was like 8th in the world for men's gymanastics for his weight or something but he's not in the Olympics. -

I knew it..., The chinese did falsify records with their gymnasts .
Leuken may move up to gold on the uneven bars and maybe team USA may get bumped to gold in the overall.

a buddy of mine said that a hacker from london found govt files saying that the girls are 14. hell if i know what to think. -

The Chinese girls were 11. If that. I can not imagine someone looking that and being older. My sister just turned 13 and she makes them look young. -

@turtle- yeah, I was going to be junior/youth in DMT the year I quit, when I was 14,and was almost there in tumbling, but I had a string of injuries, the last being a torn hip flexor, from doing a simple round off in warmup at Canada fricken Cup (I have no idea how that happened) so I couldnt run for a couple of weeks, and then I never really went back. I saw a video of you somewhere, I think, and you were awesome. I was never really good at tramp, mainly because I would always scoop because of tumbling, so I never stayed on long haha.
Some how I began coaching womens gym though, which is pretty cool, I really like coaching bars lol. -
