I wanted to create a classic looking ballpark with all of the modern amenities (Camden Yards, AT&T Park, Coors Field etc.) I got inspired when I went to a Giants vs. Cubs game last week sitting in the upper deck overlooking San Francisco Bay. There are several features in this from different ballparks.
First, the position of the ballpark is like AT&T Park in SF. I also added seals on the water and docks just like at Pier 39 (two miles north of AT&T Park). Right field is shorter than usual, but I have a taller than usual wall much like Fenway's Green Monster or right field at PNC Park in Pittsburg. The yellow structure you see is a bridge, like you would see at PNC Park in Pittsburg, only this one is modeled after the tower bridge in Sacramento. Another feature is the wooden rollercoaster. I imagined what Coney Island will look like in a few years with the closure of the park with only the Cyclone remaining. I have a stand alone coaster 'saved' from demolition. Around the park I have also done a lot of buildings which are similar to Denver's LoDo (Lower Downtown) or San Francisco's SoMo (South of Market).

It looks nice
But something i don't like is that you made the walls red. I think it shuild be better if you make it grey or white.
but great job. -

The walls are red because they are brick. Going for that classic look I was talking about. -

As a HUGE baseball fan, I have to say this is awesome, Mike, great job! The red brick and green walls really give it that traditional feel. -

VERY nice job, Mike. I love the look of that screen. It's cool to see how different people (like you and James) tackle the baseball stadium idea. I'm really impressed with it. Hope to see you finish this up and send it in! -

One more screen of left field bleachers, the scoreboard, jumbotron and left field upper deck. Bonus points for anyone that knows what the '42' is for.

Well, it looks nice but the screen is really bad quality (maybe just my computer but it usually runs perfectly). I can't find a 42 but I'll guess because it's the meaning of life, the universe, and everything?

lol.... Not much of a baseball fan are you?
And yes, it is Jackie Robinson. The only player in MLB to have his number retired by all 30 teams in the league.
But there is one player that still wears #42 today. Anyone one know who it is and why he is able to wear it? -

Mariano Rivera because the number wasn't retired when he got it.
and no, i didn't use google. -

I love going to baseball games for the atmosphere and food etc. but find the sport extremely boring so I don't pay any other attention to it except for maybe asking my friends who won the world series. -

I LOVE San Franciscos ballpark it really is right on the bay.
Oh and Don't tempt me I believe the 42 is for Jackie Robinson's Number
Am I right?
EDIT: GOD I hate it when I don't take time to read and the trivia has already been answered.Edited by wed10, 22 July 2008 - 09:11 AM.
