If you dislike this country you should have the right to try to change it, end of story. What the fuck do you think the colonists came here for?
i agree,i hate the UK but i wouldn't move anywhere else.People should stop encouraging patriotism and encourage people to think for themselves about the state of our modern day society (world wide)
"its not like were running out of oil anytime soon"
I think we probably are at the rate of consumpsion, why do you think big companies are so desperate to get full shares of the remaining fields.Isn't natural gas running low aswell?
"the ice caps are melting and the oceans are riseing"
They wont rise (or maybe by a small margin). Its the same as when you have ice+water in a glass. When the ice melts it doesn't come over the glass. -

And do you realize that Giuliani might have been responsible for bringing New York down in the first place? Yeah, it is getting into those evil 9/11 conspiracy theories, but it has more basis than your argument that Obama was in some racist cult. He made a bulletproof floor in building 7 of the WTC that served as an 'Emergency Response Center'. Only to have it evacuated the day of the attacks, despite it being a perfect place to keep people safe. And then, the building magically collapsed later that day, perhaps he was trying to hide something?
Oh jesus.
9/11 conspiracies are bullshit.
especially that loose change nonsense.
If the government had no problem killing thousands of innocent people in what is considered the largest attack ever on american soil, don't you think they could handle one punk college kid?
as for not liking hillary because she's a woman, no. that's not it at all.
I don't like her because she's a clinton. -

So Woofenskid, you're saying as an American I should be loyal to America. And I am. But as a Jew, I am equally loyal to Israel. Does that make me racist or anti-american?? I think not. Why can't African American people from Africa support African Heritage and the continent of Africa? After all, us Americans yanked them helplessly from there as slaves. And going by that logic, being Christain is anti-american, because christianity is from europe and, god forbid, the MIDDLE EAST.
Plus Woofenskid, on your absurdly racist remark, a lot of blacks are unhappy here because of racists like you. Martin Luther King was only 40 years ago, and the KKK is still running strong! Lots of people don't have the money to move back to Africa, so just stop bitching about them. -

God dammit.
I'm not fuckin racist.
What I am sayings is be loyal to where you live FIRST, and then where you're from second.
My best friend is Jewish, so don't give me that shit.
I've also told you what I think of religion, fuck it.
I believe there is a god, but I don't believe that he needs money.
that goes for catholics, Christian, methodist, jew, whatever. -

A few points...
-True, rrp, ice in water has no effect on the level of the water. However, I think most people (ie Al Gore in An Inconvenient Truth) are talking about land-based ice melting, such as Greenland and Antarctica.
-Woof, I am a Methodist and our church takes a loss pretty much every week. My church has done some pretty grimy things in the past (quite recently), which I'm not at all proud of at all, but if there's one thing we don't have in excess it's money.
-Your whole loyalty argument is pretty insane. As I mentioned earlier, do you think the revolutionaries that started this country were loyal to Britain, where they lived FIRST? -

and they left it because they didn't like it, and couldn't change it.
here, you have the opportunity to change it. If you choose not to, but to sit around and complain, or tell everyone you know that you don't like it, I have no respect for you. If you don't like it and don't want to change it, shut up or go home. -

Just a side note: if the arctic ice melts, than what you say is true. However, all the ice on Antarctica is resting on top of land. And if all that melted, it most certainly would change height of the oceans."the ice caps are melting and the oceans are riseing"
They wont rise (or maybe by a small margin). Its the same as when you have ice+water in a glass. When the ice melts it doesn't come over the glass. -

woofenskid, a page or so ago you made a point about being against organized religon. I agree with you there as I personally dont see how it helps me or anyone for that matter. However, others may see benefit and I think the worst part of it is when it is used to discriminate against others, such as saying members of certain churches are part of a cult. But thats old news...
Back to what RRP was saying about oil, I doubt it will be a long time until ALL the oil on earth is used up. Likely what will happen will be the primary and easiest to extract sources will be used up (middle east) and we will move on to the harder to extract sources (canada, russia). Oil prices will rise significantly and we will bitch about it even more. Maybe then the oil companies will go out of business and cease to influence the government research in alternative fuels.
And on to what you were saying about conspiracies, they wouldn't eliminate the one college kid because they need to keep the citizens satisfied with their right of free speech. And taking out even one student for speaking out, especially one in college, would cause a significant uprising. Just look what happened at places like Berkeley during the Vietnam war (however that was more related to war and peace). They would have no problem killing thousands of people in order to fulfill their agenda, establishing puppet governments in the middle east to control oil supply. As Stalin said, one death is a tragedy while 1 million is a statistic. I'm pretty sure those who blamed the nazis for burning the Reichstag were ridiculed as well. And look how that turned out. Just because we live in America doesn't mean we are immune to everything evil. -

I'm not big on religion either, I just think it's a bunch of balogna that some guy created to get some extra cash. In every religion there's some way to give money to the central church/leaders.
But I made my point, I stand by what I said, and I won't continue arguing unless I see something so blatently racist/incorrect/plain stupid that it needs to be pointed out. -

Im no way religious at all,i dont believe any of it.However once you understand what religion is (a form of control) then you can see that religion is actually a good thing -

Others have addressed my land-based ice issue already, so there's no need for me to elaborate more on that subject.
As for Oil, yes it's running 'low'. Has anyone other than me actually heard of supply and demand? What will happen when all the easily accessible and refinable oil runs out (which is somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of the gobal total btw) and demand is at an all time high? Massive shortages caused by lengthened pumping and refining times and costs will skyrocket. This really isn't a problem if oil was only used as a raw material in certain plastics; but it's not.
Natural Gas, Propane, and Kerosene supplies should be good for at least a century at this point, which is probably about twice as long as oil. Coal has about two centuries before supplies will get extremely tight (even factoring in continued exponential growth similar to that of China and India in the last few decades)...
And global warming will cause several consequences as bad, and arguably worse, than rising sea levels. The effects on crop growth, rainfall, and general global climate patterns could cause untold shifts in ocean currents and other issues. The worst case scenario is that it somehow warms the oceans enough (realize that this will take several centuries, but will be much easier to curb now than several (dozen) decades down the road of continued abuse) to release the frozen methane stored in the depths. If this happened it'd thicken the atmosphere to a degree that global temperatures could increase by as much as 30 degrees, thus making much of the planets surface unlivable, at least until evolution kicks in (several millennia).
I don't know. Maybe I just don't like thinking that future generations will look back to this era and wonder why we did nothing when we knew what was happening to our home planet... I don't want to be part of the generation responsible for noting but ignoring potentially the greatest preventable issue in the history of Earth.

Now I can see some of you having potential in your arguments regarding money in the church, but I would like to know: from where do you think people like preachers and church administrators get money to support themselves/their families?

I assume they're talking about the money after that kinda stuff, dlh. Kinda like their profits. -

Just to add on to the rising sea levels topic, ocean warming and heat causes water to expand, which also accounts for a higher sea level and water content.
This thread is a joke. It is reprehensible that some people still reject human-caused climate change.
Ethanol is a very poor solution, as explained, but is a band-aid of sorts. Hydrogen is still a long way off. We need to go back to the electric car, and increase hybrids, and most importantly reduce consumption and waste. -

Where to begin... I'm a liberal. I like the environment, hate racists (fuck off, woofenskid), and think polution sucks.
That being said, here's all I see:
"Open your eyes. You're all just too lazy to see the truth. I watched the move, An Inconvenient Truth, and it told me all the facts!"
...Didn't catch that? Let me make it more obvious.
When you're yelling at the non-believers (SHHHHHUUNNNN!) to open their eyes, you retreat to the liberal news sources blindly in the same way they do. Here you go, I found some contradictory evidence:
http://www.warwickhu..._NY_Mar2_08.pdf
Basic premise: climate scientists are predicting a DROP in climate over the next decade, carbon dioxide doesn't have a huge impact and the planet has survived with significantly more in the air, and claims CO2 rising is a good thing (this part, I don't think is very credible.)
Well written, well researched, and easily repeatable.
Now, read the opposing viewpoint, research it, and come back and spew bullshit with an informed opinion. No, I don't really care what conclusion you come to (Notice I haven't supported either?).
On to more pressing issues. But either you came her for a reason, or you got shipped here in a tight, crowded ship to serve people that thought they owned you.
If you came here willingly, shut the fuck up and be proud of the country you live in first and foremost.
If you came here as a slave, and you aren't happy with it, even though it's been a hundred and fifty years since we stopped making you pick our cotton, you still don't like how it's done here? Go the fuck back to Africa.
To all african americans, peoples of middle eastern descent, chinese, whoever the fuck you are, if you're here legally, and you're proud of the country you live in, and you're glad you came, thanks. wanna come over for dinner? If you're not happy, go back to where you came from.
I didn't come from anywhere. Neither did you. I was born and raised here, and I'll live here, at least up through my graduate degree.
And if someone WAS dragged here on a crowded ship, they have the right to be angry. But modern blacks (at least the ones I know), weren't. They were born here, too. That gives them every right to change this country however they damn well please.even though it's been a hundred and fifty years since we stopped making you pick our cotton, you still don't like how it's done here?
Are you fucking kidding me? No voting rights, Jim Crow Laws, Seperate But Equal... Yeah, blacks have had it real great since slavery... I can't imagine what civil rights leaders have to be angry about... -

Even if global warming isn't what we think it is, as I'm guessing that presentation suggests, preserving the environment for future generations and living my life more efficiently is something I can get behind. Global warming not existing doesn't make the problem of how wasteful and lazy the typical American lifestyle is any less relevant, to me at least. I'm not saying I don't fall victim to it either. -

America is fat. America is lazy. AND, just for MA, Most of those fat lazy people are white.
A few pages back, someone said i should give up the bikes.
If I'm going to get sixty miles to the gallon, I might as well have fun on it.
I will not be caught dead in a prious.(sp?)
