^ The original Italian Job or the remake?

I have only seen one Italian Job, so I don't know which one I like. Is there a difference?
  • Ge-Ride%s's Photo
^Yes. I'm assuming you're referring to the more recent remake since you've only heard of one and that version is the more commonly known one. The remake is hardly like the original at all, as the 1969 original revolves around a group of British men who rob a truck filled with gold en route to a bank in Turin. The only real similarity between the two besides both being heist movies is the main character is named Charlie Croker and the character Bridger. They really are two different movies, aside from both having chase scenes with Mini Coopers. I suggest you consider watching the original though I wouldn't recommend it as the two movies are quite different.

I watched Green Street yesterday on a 52" HD LCD TV with a 800w surround sound system. I was amazed at the quality and how it popped out at me, and the atmosphere the sound created. The movie seemed brilliant because of this (I've never seen it before) so its up there. Not sure whether it was the kit that made it so though.

This also applies for cinema to be exact. Our current cinema is quite rich in the available technology, with a very good sound system and also digital projectors (although I still have no clue why they don't use it more often. Was also weird that I've seen HP:GoF digital there and HP:TOOTP was not...)
However for some reason they never have the good setting for some reason. The sounds usually isn't very great tbh... sometimes my home cinema system does it a lot better (not bad for 225 euros). However I've seen one movie there that was just stunning to see in that cinema, namelly Batman Begins. The sound was overwhelming through the whole movie. The gas scenes just where so much more lively and it was a great experience to feel everything shake with the car chase over the rooftops. I seriously don't know what went wrong there as I've never had that experience there again. It's possibly the reason I don't go there very often as it's just a waste of money as it has no additional value tbh.

5dave, the hitchhiker's guide was much funnier in the book.
I'd reccomend it. At least they had the bit about thw wha;e and the petunias in the move, that was my favorite.

Whenever people ask me what movies are my faves the first ones that spring to mind are Transformers, 300, Fast and Furious series and LOTR series. Probably because I own the all on DVD and don't go the cinema/buy dvds often. I kinda just stick to watching what I already own many a time.

    From best to freakin' awesome:

    -The Andromeda Strain
    -Jurassic Park
    -Dante's Peak
    -I Am Legend
    -The Day After Tomorrow

Yes, I like "end of the world" kind of movies.
  • iris%s's Photo
    Uh hey lol.

    1.Fight Club
-Incredible movie from start to finish. Fincher expands on a lot of the twisted, dark techniques that made "Se7en" so cool, added one of the most underrated actors in history in Edward Norton as the hero, and invented probably the single coolest character in cinema history with Pitt's Tyler Durden. The dialogue is perfect, the anti-establishment theme of the movie is presented with style, and the twist at the end (though somewhat predictable) was the perfect way to close it out. Really no fault I can find with this movie at all. Not to mention a great performance from Helena Bonham Carter as Marla Singer.

2.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-A movie that in my opinion redefined the way I look at romance movies forever. All time favorite screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (who also did Being John Malkovich and the almost-too-clever-for-its-own-good Adaptation.) somehow outdoes himself with this beautiful albeit surreal and trippy story of heartache, lonliness, and introspection. Not only telling the story of clumsy Joel and outlandish Clem, but also showing us through a barrage of visually breathtaking dream/memory sequences. Michel Gondry (of Daft Punk video fame) was the perfect director to tackle this total abstraction of a love story, and Jim Carrey (surprisingly) and Kate Winslet (not so surprisingly) gave the performances of a lifetime.

    3.The Departed
-A movie that has constantly grown on me more and more the more I've watched it (I guess I can thank HBO for playing it a thousand times a day). Maybe no better cast has ever been assembled, which I feel silly even saying. DiCaprio somehow pulls off the 'wrong side of the tracks undercover cop', proving how incredible and underrated of an actor he is, Jack Nicholson was Oscar-worthy (and robbed) as his portrayel of pure evil, greed, and power in Costello, Matt Damon somehow made a villain somewhat likable and loathed at the same time, and Mark Wahlberg was perfect too. Not to mention the flawless directing by Scorsese who finally got his first Oscar in what may actually turn out to be his best movie when it's all said and done (no disrespect to Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, or Raging Bull). Plus the music added a lot, with the uptempto Dropkick Murphys to the more subdued Rolling Stones/Pink Floyd songs.

    4.Almost Famous
-Sort of a guilty pleasure of mine, being as it's practically a romantic comedy to the untrained eye. Still, no movie has ever vocalized the beauty of music and rock and roll like this. Cameron Crowe forever remains the best user of music in film, with this song being the prime example. A semi-autobiographical tale based on his experiences with Led Zeppelin on the road, this movie has some of the most memorable scenes of my life (the rooftop, Tiny Dancer). Billy Crudup was perfect as Russell Hammond, the msyterious and allusive lead guitarist and Kate Hudson was every rockers dreamgirl as Penny Lane.

    5.The Matrix
-I always feel kinda goofy admitting how much I loved this movie, seeing as it's sort of a wham-bam action movie with one of the worst actors of all time as the lead. Luckily the lead required a stupid, naive moron so Keanu pulled it off. Still, the special effects trumped everything to that point, the storyline was a thousand times more clever than anything anybody expected, and it (unfortunately) spawned two of the shittiest sequels of all time. Still, the original was nearly flawless as a sci-fi movie, and probably the coolest movie to ever watch on shrooms. Try it.

    Rest of my favorites:
    -The Prestige
    -American Beauty
    -Goodfellas
    -Apocalypse Now
    -Sin City
    -The Shawshank Redemption
    -Requiem for a Dream
    -Se7en
    -Adaptation.
    -Gladiator
    -Into the Wild
    -The Godfather/II
    -Catch Me If You Can
    -Saving Private Ryan
    -Batman Begins
    -Scarface
    -The Usual Suspects
    -The Green Mile.

And comedies imo belong in their own category since they're out to achieve a totally different result. Pretty much any Apatow movie is my favorite, depending on what day of the week (between 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, or Superbad...and I'm sure after August 8th you could include Pineapple Express in there).
