So...does anyone know how to fix a black hole in RCT2 (ie without the codex)? I could just go back to a prior save, but I'd lose a whole days worth of work that way and I really like the stuff I built today. Maybe it'd be pretty simple for you folks who use winhack? -

A good winhacker can fix it, like leo, gee, cena or CP6. Don't think you can fix them without winhack... -

Nevermind. Somehow I managed to fix it completely by accident. Crisis averted. Though I'm still having an unrelated problem of ride stats not generating any longer. I have used zero and restore clearances approximately 14 bazillion times on this map already. Perhaps that has something to do with it. -

Hey Ed. I sometimes get that in LL as well and I've never managed to fix it. The stats for War Of The Worlds: Destruction don't generate no matter what i do. Never could figure out why -

Yeah, the weird thing is this coaster was one of the first things built in the park so it's been there forever and the stats were fine. I had to remove a chunk of track to delete some scenery underneath it, and when I rebuilt the track, no stats. I left it testing while I was building for a few hours and still no stats. I even rebuilt the entire layout with a different coaster, still no stats. It really only bugs me because the park has peeps and I need the stats so they'll ride it. But the black hole somehow fixed itself, maybe I'll get lucky twice. -

unfortunately the problem of lost stats is a common one. i don't know of anyone who has ever been able to fix this. you could just play ll though, it's rare to happen there -

I'll always love LL for that reason. I think I had a black hole problem once in all the years I played that game and that's about it. Even with all the Beast trainer hacking, I didn't run into problems I couldn't fix except for the occasional error trapper. But ever since I started building in RCT2 it seems like I spend 50% of the time building and 50% of the time struggling with the mechanics of the game. The coaster mechanics are significantly different to the point where I have to rethink the way I make rides. And you really have to plan ahead how you're going to build something because once you lose track of where the ground is, it becomes tricky to properly line up scenery. Every single building has to be approached like a sculpture and assembled tiny piece by tiny piece.
But even if it does feel like I'm fighting with the game, I don't think I could go back to LL now. That'd be like going back to pre-expansion RCT at this point. I'm starting to figure out how to use all the new toys and now I can't (won't?) build without them. There's a certain charm to a well-constructed LL park that I don't think RCT2 can accurately approximate, but the tradeoff is that RCT2 lets you do so much more if you can put up with fighting it. -

Also fixed, this time thanks to WME. Apparently the game generates stats in order so if one ride is waiting for stats than anything built or edited after that will continue waiting too. Like a 'stats generating' queue or something. Very British. -

Hate to do a year-bump here, but after reading as much as I can find about black holes and applying my own (vast) recent experience with them, I've come to really agree with Gwazi's first post about them having much to do with restoring clearances. I developed a habit of clicking on 'restore' multiple times after every ZC session (as if to make sure everything was really restored). I'd also click it like, three times before I exited 8cars every time I saved...and noticed recently that the black holes seemed to almost always appear after exiting the trainers and before the actual save. When they appear during building, it always seems to be immediately after my multiple-click restore ritual. I've made a conscious effort to only click 'restore' once in the last couple of days and I haven't had a black hole issue since....so far.
Nothing groundbreaking here...just thought I'd post my thoughts on this since I seem to have become the king of black holes lately.
Edit: Since I'm doing a fuck of a lot of just experimenting with different things to try to find a cause for these bitches..I just found that using the scenery removal tool on objects that have been ZC'd seems to cause land spikes/black holes as well. So, Leo's removal theory seems to hold up as well.
