Hey everyone, I'm home from Basic Training for the next 15 days.... then I gotta go back and finish another three weeks before I graduate and move onto my AIT out at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, GA. Gotta stay there until May 28th then I'm done with that and back home again until they send me off to wherever. Just finished week 7... and have a huge fever. Got to meet President Bush my third day there, which was pretty amazing and a total surprise. He looks A LOT older in person, lol.
Anywho, so what's new... -

He's a wonderful man. I'm enlisting in the Marines as soon as I turn 18, about nine months from now. Can't wait. -

"Bush"....is that the dwarf that started a useless war again?, and..ehh..oh.. nvm...., living on another side of the world I cannot vote there anyway
but is it really true (like they write here) that in a state like Iowa people cannot bring out their vote for elections anonymously, but are gathered in a school or library and just are counted to vote for someone or another by the corner they have joined and stick their hand up when asked? For everyone else to see and have been/will be influenced by :' />

Welcome back, Brent! Not so sure I should congratulate you on meeting the pres though
Emergo, all voting in the US is anonymous as far as I know, whether it be the March Primaries or the November General Elections. -

^ sorry, ooops!, first things first, so: welcome back Brent! (sorry for distracting your topic, will stop after this answer.)
R_E: just read this in a documentary-on-the-spot ( reporter following the campaigns of election-candidates into the smallest corners) in one of the top most reliable newspapers here...and knowing how large the US are, I was just wondering.....any members from Iowa here??
Brent: wishing you strength and get over that fever before Christmas!,

To be able to vote in the primaries, you have to be a registered republican or democrat. I think if I were registered under one party or the other I'd want people to know who I support financially, because from what I understand, only active money-giving party supporters go to those.^ sorry, ooops!, first things first, so: welcome back Brent! I didnt know chimpanzees lived that old
Perphaps all the lying has aged him.
Anyway, good your back, even though I dont really know you, but there aren't many people here that I really know.
And Emergo, I suppose anything can happen in Iowa since the lead presidential candidate there is winning because of Chuck Norris commercials -

I don't mean to get further off topic, but I'm pretty sure Iowa is a caucus state and not a primary, and I'm not exactly sure how a caucus works, but I'm pretty sure it actually does involve a group of people (representing the party they are voting on) from that state getting together and reaching a decision on their choice for presidental candidate. Most states are primary states, though, where normal voting procedures are followed.Edited by DragonInferno, 20 December 2007 - 07:26 PM.

Yes, that is a caucus. It is an outdated procedure, but still used by Iowa, at least. -

I'm from Iowa (lived there a few years and return to see my family twice a year) and really, the only thing the caucuses do are give a realistic idea to the nation what the runners look like (stats, demographics, etc). And no, they go to a little cubical thing and use those punch cards (at least it's what I remember from what my pops told me back in the day, may be something slightly different now).
Anywho
Hi Brent, didn't know you much, but good to see words come from you. You said you were in the Marines, is that right? Worked with a guy this past summer at Six Flags and can say you'll have a hell-of-time in your troop. When you come back, please grace us with the stories you've experienced. I'm sure you'll have to clean out the portapotties (or the variety that's over in Iraq), so prepare yourself (poop+high heat=bad). And if you don't mind asking, what does AIT mean and what outfit are you in?
