I understand them perfectly. I can't name a single band in the last 10 years that got better when they got popular and started getting airplay. But I can make lists of bands that had their soul extracted by the record companies and then started releasing mindless shit for the record buying sheep. -

I thought about trying to find bands that did improve their sound, but its tough.
I personally enjoy AFI's older work just as much as their newer stuff, but I wouldn't say its better (although some songs are infinitely better than anything they could have written in the past)
Actually, Fleetwood Mac is a decent example (but not many people here like them) -

There are good examples from the 70's and 80's but once you get to 1990 it's all about the money. Record labels don't allow bands to grow and get better anymore. They just want the quick hit for the quick bucks and then dump them at the first sign of trouble that might cost them some of their profits.
Seriously, how many artists make it to 3 records now? And of those how many are as good or better than the first one? When was the last time an artist had their biggest hit on their 3rd major label record (don't count indies or small labels). It just doesn't happen anymore. By the time they get to that point their soul has been ripped out by the record companies and replace with delusions of money bags.
If I sound bitter. I am. -

Because they'll take a song that I moderatly liked and will play it until I want to stab someone everytime I hear them. Good examples: Breaking Benjamin, Nickleback, Cold, etc...Oh no! A band that I like became popular and now I can't listen to them!

i dislike a lot of things.
i'm much more interested in the melodic development of a song than the lyrics, usually.. so things that involve dropping a beat and then looping it for three minutes have little appeal. There are exceptions, of course. I also tend to dislike things that involve dropping a few rock chords and whining about relationships before repeating a chorus of the same whining for three minutes.
I like some d&b or dance music, but most of the stuff i like is a mix of a well-known classical piece... Tiesto's Adagio for Strings a notable exception. i kind of like it, but it bothers me so much that he remixed that of all things that my enjoyment is severely tempered by my familiarity with the original.
I like a lot of classical music because it usually lacks the drone of the verse/chorus repetition in most top 40-ish music. even if it does return to the first theme there's usually a twist. At some point we kind of lost the concept of a Rondo and replaced it with a bridge, i think.
fact of the matter is that playing/singing the same thing over and over gets dull fast... i don't like a lot of waltzes for that reason, just as i don't like a lot of other things. -

Maybe his little bro or sis has those shows on constantly in his house and it is getting to be annoying to him. Is it really that hard to come up with a reason to justify his post rather than criticize it? -
