What a mess....
Well, I really did want to play USC in the Rose Bowl....bleeeh, I know AP is shaking his head at me but seriously....
It looks like the yay hoos at ESPN are saying we will play LSU which is fine with me because we will kick butt. Actually for any of the teams we may be up against, I think I agree with my son. We will win.
As for the Rose Bowl now...what a mess pulling teams out and such.Edited by Buckeye Becky, 02 December 2007 - 08:48 AM.

I still don't see how you can jump LSU over Georgia.
But who cares? We're going to the BCS National Championship Game!
OH! -
riven3d Offline
its simple the voters will look at Georgia not winning their conference or the SEC title will make LSU jump them, the same goes for Kansas.
OU vs Kansas in whatever bowl the big 12 has i forget what they said last night. -

The only reason LSU got to play in the SEC championship is because they're in the west not the east. LSU doesn't deserve to jump KU, VT, and UGA for just beating a #14 ranked team, the fact that its a conference championship shouldn't change the nature of the win. They still only won by a touchdown, against a team ranked 7 spots below them and yet that means LSU should magically jump 3 teams? VT beat a #11 team, and was originally ranked 1 spot higher that LSU. Does LSU really deserve to jump them just because they beat them so bad very early in the season? LSU has lost both of its game to unranked teams; UGA has lost both of its games to ranked teams. LSU lost to Kentucky; UGA beat Kentucky. UGA has not lost a game in the past 6 weeks; LSU has lost 2. LSU has already had its shot twice and they blew it twice. I don't think they deserve another shot.
As for Oklahoma, beating Missouri again, whether they were number 1 or not, does not deserve them to move past VT, USC, and UGA. What makes conference championships so magical? They're still just football games; they're entire nature doesn't change just because they're held in a neutral zone and there are typically more people in attendance than a normal game. UGA deserves to be number 2 but it's not going to happen because the BCS and the polls seem to hold getting into a conference championship to such a high standard, with little or no regard to the toughness of the conference.
And that USA Today poll is ridicolous. UGA number 10?! They drop 6 spots for not playing huh? -

Yea I just realised that.
How does LSU jump VT?
VT - #6...beat #11
LSU - #7...beat #15
even then
OU - #9...beat #1 very convincingly
Yet LSU flies up to #2? -

It seems just by virtue of the fact that LSU beat VT badly very early in the season. I still don't think it makes sense though. -

Their reasoning is this:
Georgia and Kansas both did not win their division to even go to their conference championships, VT lost big time to LSU this year, hence LSU is second. OKlahoma third. Personally, I think OK should be playing us, and I'm sure Pyro will be posting later the reasons why -

in the Fiesta Bowl it will be OU vs Kansas its gonna be interesting to exactly what bowl USC will play in -
Buckeye Becky Offline
Yes, I think they should keep them in Rose Bowl but if they do it will be Illinois they will play...then I heard they might pull them for Sugar against Georgia...
I still wanted to play them
I know I'm a nut -
riven3d Offline
from what i hear its gonna be USC vs Georgia, the location is the question, the Sugar Bowl has the right to take who they want and would trump the Rose Bowl... -

Actually, Riven, Rose Bowl has priority over Sugar Bowl. The team that was supposed to play here is ranked #1 (or should be when BCS comes out), so we lose the higher ranked team, and we'll get priority. USC will play in the Rose Bowl no matter what (unless something insane happens and we wind up in the BCS championship). The Rose Bowl gets too much money from local fans to not choose USC. The question is who they pick: Illinois, or a better team? Illinois preserves the traditional Pac10/Big10 matchup and will probably get more fans to travel here due to tradition. But it might not net a better game.
The Sugar Bowl will get second dibs behind the Rose Bowl because the team they're losing (assuming it's LSU in the BCS too) is ranked #2. And they're very likely to nab Georgia because they're highly ranked and in the SEC (traditionally tied into the Sugar), and it'll get fans to travel to New Orleans and spend money.
But I agree with Becky: it should be OSU vs OU. OU edges LSU in over quality IMO. LSU lived on the edge too far. People seem to forget that and only remember the two triple OT losses, but they almost lost to Auburn and Florida as well, so they could be 8-4.
In terms of LSU over VaTech... I think DragonInferno covered that. Voters will not have VaTech over LSU cuz LSU destroyed VaTech by 41 points--even if that was at the start of the season.
Personally, I think if you have two Big 12 teams in the BCS, you take Mizzou over Kansas. Mizzou is nowhere near OU's league, but just cuz they lost to OU doesn't mean one-loss Kansas gets into a BCS game. They don't even have any victories over opponents that receive votes in the polls (let alone are ranked). Even Hawaii could probably beat them. Do you honestly think something like VaTech vs Kansas will be better than VaTech vs Mizzou?
So I say it again: this year, more than ever, makes the best argument FOR a playoffs. Because I look at the top 11, and 9 of those teams can beat each other on any given day... and on any other day, lose to each other. The parity has been that good this season. But I will say that with our current flawed system, we probably get more interest, passion, and excitement than if things were neater.
There's no such thing as bad publicity. lol
