The only problem with that statement is, who really is a top 5 team this year?
A very valid point. And I really think to a certain extent ranking should be based on win/loss, but also more subjective analysis needs to go into human poll rankings. The whole system now is essentially a forumlaic line where if you lose, you drop to the lower end of the line behind other teams with the same number of losses, and move up as the teams in front of you lose. That is why Georgia is where they are, they lost earlier. LSU far and away deserves to be ahead of them if you believed they were the best team all year. If LSU carried #1 all season, how do they find themselves below Georgia now? They have the same record, except LSU has a chance to win the SEC and Georgia doesn't.
Same goes for Kansas, the fact that they are ranked ahead of OU is a joke. Nobody is going to argue that the top of the Big XII this year has been Mizzou, OU, and KU. Kansas for all intensive purposes played the easiest schedule, got raped in their one big game, and that rapeing came at the hands of a team OU beat soundly. I know the transitive property doesn't necessarily hold true in college football, but in a situation like this I think it is applicable. Kansas lacks any quality wins, OU dropped the ball once more but both losses were much more competitive than Kansas'. -

Actually, those three teams ARE the Big 10. lol Texas is sort of like a better version of UCLA (can play well, but horribly inconsistent), and Colorado IS UCLA (horribly inconsistent). And I guess the only other decent team in the conference is Texas Tech?Nobody is going to argue that the top of the Big XII this year has been Mizzou, OU, and KU.
Anyway, Kansas is basically what Hawaii would have been if they had lost to Boise State. So out of the BCS top 10, I think Kansas would be the only team I think Hawaii could definitely beat. -

Big XII Cork... we know how to count unlike our neighbor conference to the North. I think Texas is certainly a better team than UCLA, but a very fair comparison as far as consistency goes. Texas is a solid number 4 team. I would bet Texas would win a game against any of the other conference's #4 team (Clemson, South Florida, Wisconsin, Oregon State/UCLA, Auburn). They just started the season out playing like crap, regrouped a little, and A&M has somehow had their number recently, but that is the only game they lost after OU.
Mizzou, OU, and Kansas are definitely the elite in the conference, and I would be hesitant to put any of them but OU up against the tops of the Pac 10 or SEC. Mizzou would be able to compete with the best of everyone else, I think SEC and Pac 10 were the strongest conferences at the top this year. However, the Big XII isn't just a three pony conference, the other teams may not be complete teams per say, but a lot of them are dangerous. Texas Tech has one of the best offenses in the nation. Oklahoma State is inconsistent as hell, but can be very potent when clicking. Colorado, Kansas State... all have had their moments this season when they have put together good games, they just can't do it on a regular basis. -

(Wouldn't it be absolutely hysterical if OU beat Mizzou and Pitt totally upset WVU, and USC absolutely thrashed UCLA, and somehow it becomes OSU vs USC, except in New Orleans? There's about a 0.0172% chance of that happening, but that would be incredible. I'd probably to too flabbergasted to even celebrate.) -

Yeah....
Too bad that VT blew out BC and LSU stomped Tenn
I think it would be more hysterical if USC lost to UCLA
but we are different, you and I -

The VT/BC game is a good one....
and you know what if Missouri wins, I would not have a problem with that really.... -

WOW.
Never in a million years did I think WVU would lose. Mizzou, I expected. But WOW.
Becky, congrats. Your Buckeyes are going to New Orleans. And frankly, with OU destroying Mizzou, if there's ANY intelligence in the voting committee, the Sooners will jump Georgia to the #2 position, because they've played the best out of all the two loss teams, in terms of "consistency." If it wasn't for Bradford going out vs Texas Tech, they probably would have won. And I forget what happeened vs Colorado, but wasn' the hurt too? Not sure.
Anyway, my choice is OSU vs OU, which would be a great game IMO. I don't know who USC would play in the Rose Bowl, but I really hope it's not Illinois. Georgia should just go to the Fiesta Bowl or something... or Rose Bowl.
What an insane season. We start with Appalachian State... why not have 1 and 2 lose... TWO WEEKS IN A ROW! lol
Becky... lets mark September 2008. -

Just put this out there, they say If its OSU vs LSU since the Sugar Bowl would lose it rep. the SEC Champ, that USC would then be taken out of the Rose Bowl and goto the Sugar Bowl.
