I think the two teams would match up well against each other and provide a solid game with a good amount of highlights. OSU vs WVU, however, would pit traditional Big 10 power vs WVU speed, which destroyed OSU last year. In this case, I'm looking strictly at how the teams match up.
Anyway, the newest BCS standings came out today, and Hawaii IS #12. Barring any major shakeup (which pretty much isn't possible except in the Pac 10, ACC and SEC, where LSU, VaTech, and USC should come out as champs but *could* get upset; and assuming Hawaii beats Washinton next week), the 10 BCS teams should be the following (IMO):
1. Missouri (11-1) (Big 12 Champ, unless OU wins)
2. West Virginia (10-1) (Big East Champ)
3. Ohio State (11-1) (Big 10 Champ)
4. Georgia (10-2) (SEC At Large)
5. Kansas (11-1) (Big 10 At Large)
6. Virginia Tech (10-2) (ACC Champ)
7. LSU (10-2) (SEC Champ)
8. USC (9-2) (Pac 10 Champ)
9. Oklahoma (10-2) (Big 12 Champ, unless Mizzou wins)
10. (12) Hawaii (11-0) (BCS At Large)
If Boston College wins, or Tennessee upsets LSU, that really screws things up. If UCLA beats USC and Arizona beats ASU, whoever goes to the Rose Bowl against the Pac 10 is going to destroy the Bruins (or Sun Devils, if ASU wins).
I actually thought Hawaii wasn't really deserving of a BCS game after Friday, even though they beat an [overrated and nowhere near as good as last year] Boise State. But then I started looking at which teams should go ahead, and with Oregon's and ASU's losses, I realized that Hawaii really does sit relatively well at #12. -

I have to agree with you Cork about most everything you say here. I too am more fearful of playing WVa because of their offense not matching up with our defense and yet I feel we are a better all around team than they are, if that makes sense. I also doubt that Pitt can beat them.
I did not think Missouri looked as good as everyone else thought they did, so I think OK should be able to take care of business, and they might have a lot of motive now since IMO they were snubbed this week (I take everything back I said last week Pyro) because they only moved OK up one spot after 4 teams lost above them this week. Kansas should have fallen harder this week, I agree.
Honestly, I'd just as soon go to the Rose Bowl to play USC because its a good little rivalry and OSU hasn't been there in ages and it will be a good matchup. But, HOW can I say I don't want to play in a NATIONAL championship game??? Well, I can't...so I will be rooting for OK and/or Pitt next week and if they both lose, I'd like to see us play Georgia too...
But please, please, don't let us play UCLA or Arizona State.... -

Yeah, now all that needs to happen for UGA to go to the National Championship is a probable and a highly improbable: Oklahoma beats Mizzou and Pitt beats WVa. -

I think the voters would take a one loss but possibly overrated OSU team over a two loss and not-so-flashy Georgia team. So I don't think they have a chance. Plus, how could Georgia go to the BCS game but possible SEC champ LSU not? No, I say Georgia has no chance of the BCS game. Right now, it's WVU's and Mizzou's to lose. -

I am very surprised that OU didn't move up more this week. We dominated our in state rival, not a great team, but it at least shows we righted the ship a little. Scored on the first four possessions, had a goal line stand at 1st and goal at the 1, no penalties, just a brick wall. I can see USC jumping over us, but Kansas at #5? After how they played? Look, Mizzou is good and all, but Kansas flat out sucked it up. They showed that they were a nice story, play some sound football, but athletically are nowhere near the big boy table. Definitively not a top five team.
But the biggest beef is all this Georgia talk. Why are they the hot topic all of a sudden? They didn't win their divisions... let alone conference. I know people complained about OU is 2003 when they didn't win the Big XII, but they were undisputed #1 all year and lost one game, which happened to be the conference championship. Georgia was not even good enough to make the championship game and backed into where they are via everybody else losing. I hate this SEC love fest. Like, for example, LSU falling to two unranked teams and still being as high as they are. But its not even the fact that they lost, its the fact that they had been flirting with it for weeks on end, needing miracle conversions time after time. I could still stomach LSU making it though, but Georgia? Georgia holds the crown of being the most overrated team year in and year out. Its just amazing nobody has figured it out yet... they are not very good.
But enough ranting, I am just excited about the game this weekend. Going to make the 13 hour trek down to San Antonio with some friends. I like OU's chances based on the way the first game went. So tired of hearing about how Mizzou gave the game away because they lead in the 4th quarter for three minutes by one point off of a missed extra point before OU marched down the field and scored. Hopefully this time the margin is big enough that the Tigers can't say anything about it. -

I cannot even imagine that if the school initials were OSU instead of LSU what a difference in the ranking would be...we would be lucky if we were in the top 20 after squeaking games out and also LOSING two games to unranked teams....I hate the USC love fest too....its like none of the sportscasters even want to announce games this year because their buddy, their pal, is not winning this year....awwww -

Jesus, Pyro, I wasn't even being that serious. I don't think they really are going to the National Championship nor deserve to be there. It seems like you harbor a lot of resentment towards the SEC. And LSU definitely should be much lower and the rankings, #5 is ridicolously high. At least, UGA's losses were earlier in the season. -

Eh... in my honest opinion, the SEC is the best and toughest conference in the nation, top to bottom. But yeah, LSU didn't drop nearly as far as they "should have."
Once the regular season is over, I'm going to take a look at the six major conferences and see if I can determine an as-objective-as-I-can ranking of conference quality, from top to bottom. Right now, if I had to do it off the top of my head, I'd say something like:
1. SEC
2. Pac 10
3. Big East
4. Big 12
5. ACC
6. Big 10
But that's not really looking at every single time, their record, who they've beaten, and stuff like that. For example, I was surprised to see that the Big 10 had TEN bowl eligible teams, but I have a nagging suspicion that like 2 or 3 of every team's wins have come against either horrible 1A teams or 1AA teams. Unless you're Michigan. In your case, those games were losses.Meanwhile, the Big East might end up with only one powerhouse, but they've got like five teams that will give solid games against almost anyone in the nation. And the Pac 10 might not be quite as high as I'd like, given late season turn of events (especially since Cal decided to drop off the face of the earth; those tree huggers living in the trees to prevent new construction around their stadium must have really hexed the team!).

My comments weren't exactly spurred by you, it is more in listening to national commentary. I do harbor a lot of resentment towards the SEC, and it is probably from constantly hearing about them. But Georgia in particular holds of soft spot in my heart as every year they seem to climb up the rankings before coming crashing down after bad performances, the hype always seems to exceed the results. So I guess to me they are kind of the poster child for pumping the SEC beyond what it really is.
Tough conference, no doubt. The best conference, quite possibly. But its not like every other conference is dirt graveling at its feet. More importantly, it is not like the elite are any different. The SEC just has a lot more solid mediocre teams than anyone else, the depth is there. I would actually argue that this year though, the Pac 10 was tougher than the SEC. Take away the injuries and the Pac 10 has 3 real elite teams to the SEC's 1 and a 1/2, the half being Florida who can be scary but still has some major issues that cost them games. -

and stupid
but I guess you will figure that out if you really look at it objectively -

Are you kidding me? UGA lost to a USC team who was at the top of their game at the time (when they actually played like a top 10 team, even it was only for a few weeks), and then just had one terrible game at UT. Without that terrible game they'd be in the national championship game, having played fantastic ever since.
I can't believe that you are saying they are the most overrated team. Thats just ridiculous. -

(I mean, seriously, that'd be an intriguing matchup: upstart non-BCS team vs traditional SEC known asset. Is Hawaii really that good? Is Georgia? Is the SEC really better than everything else? Or is the BCS even more full of bull than we thought?) -

Georgia, as a program over the last few years, is one of the most overrated under performing teams in the country. Year in and year out they are inexplicably high in the preseason rankings and year in and year out they finish as a nice afterthought. And a lot of that is they have had some tough games the last few years, but they have consistently shown that they cannot win the big games, they cannot play with the elite teams. They lose their big games and beat the mediocre teams on the schedule. So while the records may be good, the team has not really accomplished much despite coming in with lofty expectations.
This year's team may be better than that, but my statements about them are largely based on their recent history as far as being overrated go. They are also based on the fact that up until LSU lost again, I had not heard the name Georgia thrown out all season long. Nobody was talking about them, nobody was excited about them. Now they are the hot topic. This isn't because they played some knock out game or beat a tough opponent in the last couple weeks, this was just teams in front of them getting knocked out so all of a sudden Georgia is a big deal. Georgia absolutely in no way shape and or form deserves to compete for a national title. They didn't win their division for Christs sake. A bad Tennessee team did, because that Tennessee team raped them. Is Tennessee a better team, no. But that is the way the chips fall.
I am not saying Georgia is a terrible team, or even not a good team. They have had some good games this year. I am just saying that they are not a top 5 team, and should not be spoken about in the same sentence as the words national championship unless that sentence is "Georgia should not be playing for the national championship this year." -

Once they completely outplayed Flordia they got a lot of buzz over here (I go to USC).
The only problem with that statement is, who really is a top 5 team this year?I am just saying that they are not a top 5 team,
