Bwahahaha. Gotta love OSU.
This has been a great year for Ohio sports in general until the end, when the Ohio team got embarrassed.
Cavs went to the NBA Finals... and got swept.
Tribe went to the ALCS... and blew a 3-1 lead.
Browns are looking somewhat good... but it won't matter because they play in the same league as the Patriots and Colts... and they're the Browns, which means they'll screw it up.
OSU went to the Title Game... and got blasted by Florida, and is looking to do that once more... so they can get blasted by whoever they face.
Fixed. -

as you all say....wtf?? The blue will f...up (bye bye Lloyd??) and unfortunately its still looking like we will be playing LSU because ESPN loves them and probably still feel sorry for them ever since they caved to Pete Carroll and made them share a title one year...I'd rather have us play Oregon myself because I feel they are more deserving to be in final.
Anyhoo...thought I'd check in and give some predictions for tomorrow...most of the games don't sound too exciting really...I don't expect too many upsets...maybe none.
UConn and Cinci...I don't know really. I did watch UConn play last week and they are not shabby. Cincy has been so up and down and all over the field, you never really know whats going to happen. All I do know is that I'm watching the game.
Cal over USC ...edit: OK...maybe not because I do concede USC has some defense
BC and Maryland...eh, not sure...either BC will kill em...or they have a close one here because of lack of confidence
Arkansas over Tennessee
Buckeyes will win on Senior Day
EDIT: Ohio State landed a major commitment last night when linebacker Etienne Sabino chose the Buckeyes over Southern California.
Sabino, who is 6 feet 3 and 230 pounds, from Miami Krop High School, made his announcement on ESPNU. He told The Dispatch he picked Ohio State for many reasons, one being that he wanted to leave the state and broaden his horizons.

Guess what... No more national championship for you. Start waving goodbye to the Big 10 too.

ps- Or so I hope because now there's no way we can loose and go to the Rose Bowl... -

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Goodbye Buckeyes!!!! Ahahahah. Hilarious how Michigan AND Ohio State BOTH overlooked this week in anticipation of next week's No-Longer-As-Big game.
Becky, I feel sorry for you. Losing to Ron Zook is pretty close to losing to Stanford. Seriously. Ouch.
But this has been a crazy college football season. Go Ducks!!!!
Now, if USC can win out, we have a really good chance of reaching the Rose Bowl--provided Oregon continues to win and don't get jumped by Kansas or Oklahoma--or even West Virginia (dark horse). -

Well....wow
I really can't say I'm surprised because we have had problems with Ron Zook since he went to Illinois..not sure where your comment comes from Cork (I don't get it) because Illinois is nowhere near as bad as Stanford :' />
Ride 6...did you watch your game? cuz I don't think if I was you that I'd be talking trash to me ...the Big 10 title is all on the line next week....don't think we are going to hand it to ya
The only 'bad sport' comment I'll say here about today's game is that game should have been tied...did anyone see Illinois first touchdown?? He fumbled it!...of course, thats our fault that we didn't have it reviewed, but I said to my husband when that happened that was a bad omen right there...
OK...so don't feel sorry for me anybody, cuz unlike Ride 6 and his Blue , I love my Buckeyes no matter what kind of season they have ...and this season has been a pleasant surprise...we were ranked #11 going in, and Michigan was ranked #5...interesting to see where we land. We only had 3 starting seniors graduate today...so, I think next year will be another good season.
Did anyone watch the Cincy game? I still cannot believe they are unranked.
I'm ok....really -

You think I would seriously stop being a Michigan fan because of a loss or two? I'm not a fair weather fan, just one who's not so blinded by a couple happy seasons that I can't see my own teams flaws or the opposing teams abilities.
And I saw the Wisconsin game... If Henne or Hart had been allowed to play (Carr rested them in hopes of kicking your asses next week) the final two drives that Mallet & our receiving company threw away would've resulted in touchdowns and our win.
After watching both games what I can see is that if you get Ohio off guard they keep their composure but simply can't do anything with it. You get Michigan down and we fight back. The score in the Wisconsin game doesn't speak properly because the final touchdown was a do or die (for a first down at least) so punting it was out of the question...
It's a matter of experience I guess; we've been running on Mallet too much and as talented as he is he folds under the pressure from time to time...

Been away for awhile, things got really busy around here. Called Illinois over Ohio State so I am pretty happy about that one. I have a pretty good idea about what is going to happen for the rest of the season but need to do all the proper calculations to back it up. At this point I am going to go ahead and say should OU win out, the national championship game will be LSU versus OU. Will back that up with some concrete numbers tomorrow. I am just so happy that Ohio State took the dive. -

Edited to make less confusing, I think a Big XII team will play for the national title assuming a few things.
Making the assumption that Kansas and Missouri win their games next week (Iowa State and Kansas State respectively) and OU manages to beat Texas Tech and Oklahoma State (not a gimme), a Big XII team will be in the National Championship game, even if LSU and Oregon both win out.
Kansas obviously has a clear path, and Mizzou will shoot up the rankings by beating Kansas and OU, but let's look at this from the point of view of OU. Right now OU is behind Oregon about .03 in the Harris and .026 in the Coaches. The weakest area by far is the computers, and OU cannot hope to pass Oregon, which means they need to compensate in the human rankings. After projecting the end of the year computer rankings, OU should be about .07 behind Oregon. However, that projection has Arizona State ahead of OU in some computers, and Ohio State ahead in others. Now, should Ohio State or Arizona State lose a game, they will no longer be in front of OU. If one losses a game, Oregon is probably .06 ahead of OU. If both lose, Oregon is probably .04 ahead of OU. At .04 ahead, that means that Oregon is a consensus #2 and OU is a consensus #3. I know Oregon is ahead of LSU in one poll, but the highest and lowest rankings are dropped and I don't forsee them gaining any more ground on LSU. We need LSU to remain consensus #1 in the computers if we want to minimize the ground we have to gain over Oregon.
Ok, so assuming Ohio State or Arizona State lose (Michigan and USC), OU is down in the final computers about .06. Because the BCS final score is the average of the three separate components, OU needs to be ahead of Oregon by greater than .03 in both polls.
Look at the last few weeks of the season. Oregon plays Arizona, UCLA, and Oregon State. Those are fairly low profile games with little national interest. Oregon cannot gain much respect for those wins. Compare the season game by game and you should see each week OU will gain slowly on Oregon in the human polls. While OU plays Texas Tech, ABC's national night game I believe, Oregon plays a weak Arizona team. A convincing win for OU will narrow the gap slightly in the polls. Then you have a UCLA team that is in many ways a joke (lost to Notre Dame and Utah) playing Oregon at the same time as OU plays a major rival in Oklahoma State. While not the most nationally important game, it is guaranteed a good television spot and likely a national broadcast. That means another chance to impress voters. Another thing working for OU at this point is the game of the week will be #4 Kansas versus #5 Missouri. That puts a major spotlight on the Big XII, and to a great extent OU because OU will be primed to play the winner next. Inflating the strength of the Big XII combined with OU's greater national exposure means OU should be just about tied with Oregon in the human polls going into the final weekend.
Now it is conference championship time. OU will play the winner of the KU\MU game, so either a 1 loss team or an undefeated team. The lowest rank the opponent will be assuming both Kansas and Mizzou win next week will be #5. That is a huge game. One interesting thought is, assume Kansas wins. An undefeated Kansas coming off a win against Mizzou will be the #1 team in the human polls going into the conference title game. That will be the signature win everybody is waiting for, and nobody will be able to justify not having a major BCS conference team who is undefeated not ranked #1. So OU either plays the #5 or the #1 team in the last game of the year. Oregon plays their best game remaining at this time against rival Oregon State, but nobody cares because the Big XII Championship game is monumental. I guarantee it will be billed as playing for a spot in the national title, especially if Kansas makes it, and that effects voters mindsets.
An OU win in the Big XII Championship game, with the attention and spotlight fully on, will be enough to catapult OU over Oregon. All they need is to be .03 above them in both polls, meaning we essentially exchange current point totals. It is a realistic margin, because it is the margin between OU and Oregon now, we just need to reverse it and then add a little. One thing that will help is Kansas is currently getting first place votes and is incredibly close to OU in the polls. Now, assuming you voted Kansas highly (more people will if they beat Mizzou, they will be #1), and Kansas loses to OU, OU is the clear cut favorite to gain your first place vote. Sure the SEC tug will pull a lot back to LSU, but Oregon does not have any more draw and OU will shoot ahead of them. If Kansas losses, Mizzou will gain a lot of momentum and votes. People will say, they just beat a very good Kansas team and their only loss is to OU who is #4. Mizzou will start getting some #1 votes, but not nearly as Kansas would, and OU will gain all of Mizzou's votes for beating them.
Either way, I think assuming the Big XII season ends with no more upsets, a Big XII team will play for the national title. Looking at what is important for OU to get there, excluding the obvious like win out and benefiting from Oregon or LSU losing:
- Kansas and Mizzou win next week (essential)
- Kansas beats Mizzou and wins the North (we make NC is cakewalk if we beat them)
- Arizona State losses to USC
- Ohio State losses to Michigan
- Tennessee wins the SEC East (SEC Championship game less interesting, they are only #24, prevents LSU from running away with #1)
- Teams LSU has played keep winning, particularly Florida, Virginia Tech -

need to throw this in the mix here, If Georgia loses to Kentucky and Tennessee loses 1 of their last 2. Florida will be the SEC East champs and face LSU.
highly unlikely, but it is possible since both teams face a good Kentucky team this year. -
PyroPenguin Offline
Not sure how the SEC resolves a three way tie, but I think Georgia would still win the SEC if they lost once. They will be higher ranked in the BCS and have the head to head win over Florida. However, things get weird because Tennessee beat Georgia, and the rules for three ways get pretty complicated. -

Losing to Ron Zook is pretty close to losing to Stanford. Seriously. Ouch.
Huh? Ron Zook is a good coach who wasn't even given a chance at Florida. Wolfpack beat the Tarheels though so hah hah Carowhina-whina. -

I watched the Florida game last night, they said if they end in a 3 way tie, Florida would be the SEC East Champs -

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think Zook is overrated and not really that good of a coach. Call it personal bias.
Anyway, Pyro makes a scarily good point: OU has the best chance of shooting past to #2, assuming LSU, Oregon, and OU all win out. And I'd disagree with that, because I don't think OU is better than Oregon (unless Dixon is out). In any case, you can bet we'll be hearing more playoff clamoring after this season is over. In past years, it's been over the whole undefeated/one loss issue. This season? I honestly think that the top eight teams can all beat each other on any given day. There's an awful lot of parity this year, and the crazy series of upsets has reinforced this.
I've always thought that it'd be cool to have the eight BCS teams play their games, then have a final BCS standings where #1 plays #2. IMO, that would be the best realistic way we could get a college playoff system. But then they just added a fifth BCS game, so there goes that idea.
In any case, I'm rooting for Oregon because their going to the BCS game is USC's best chance of getting into the Rose Bowl (assuming we take care of business on our end).
