Wow, Michigan just got beat by, of all teams, Appalachian State (34-32). This is probably the biggest upset in college football history. Doesn't look like the Wolverines will be going to that national championship ths year after all.

I was gonna start a topic.

First time a Division I-AA team has beaten ANY RANKED I-A team EVER. WOW.

Now, sure... Apalachian State is the two time defending I-AA champion, but still. Against Michigan?

    This is too much.

Anyway, this is now the official NCAA Football 2007 thread. :)

Sucks that Michigan lost, I pull for all the UM's :p

My school (FIU) got it much worse at the hands of Penn St. 0-59... and I get to write about it  hey at least I get to watch all the homegames from the pressbox 8)

Miami won tho, I did not get to see the game coz I was at FIU for a watch party :twitch:

    FUCK YOU.

I couldn't believe it either. Really sucks. Our 2nd tier players (the non-starters) completely blew it for the the mainstays. Hart (running back) played an amazing game and the defense did a fine job in the 2nd half, if only things hadn't gotten so far out of control before that I think Michigan would've pulled it off.

Still an amazingly shitty start to what will hopefully be a better season.

Really the only way I can see them redeeming themselves from this would be wins over Penn and Ohio, and after today I wouldn't put (much) money on it. :'(

Rock on App... I just got back from NC State's depressing loss to UCF (what the hell), and every time the App.-Michigan score was posted, the stadium went crazy. App. is one step closer to realizing their dream of becoming a Div-I school, and NC State looks to be on the down, again. I'm just glad we don't have to play App. this year (although we do have Louisville...shit).

hahahaaaaa, yes. I was at the OSU-YSU game today, and it was pretty much boring as hell. well, the game itself was. the bands were great, including the alumni band, and the action was certainly interesting around my seat- the 70-something woman next to me passed out from heat exhaustion on my shoulder and we had to get the sheriff to get some EMTs up there (on C-Deck.. they have a rappelling setup to lower the stretchers down.) So basically i wasn't paying any attention through halftime anyway. They did a quad script ohio, and the alumni did some diamondy thing. It took up so much time that Youngstown State had to stay and play their halftime show after the game, which i stayed to watch... it was accompanied by periodic roars from somewhere underneath me.

    ooohhhh boy.

throughout the entire game there had been big 10 score updates and associated bursts of applause when people saw that Michigan was losing. Sometime in the 3rd quarter [i think] there was a local news station sports blurb that didn't even mention the ASU MU game, and there was much booing.

needless to say, the michigan game was much more interesting than the OSU one.
After the bands marched out i headed down to the concessions, which each had two TVs with the big ten network playing the michigan game.. around each screen were cluster something like 70-80 people, cheering/booing loudly for every play made. (someone started an "OV-ER--RA-TED" chant with about 1:30 to go) The band members were scattered throughout the area screaming their heads off, and the echo was insane. when Appalachian blocked the field goal the place just went fucking NUTS. There was about a solid minute of people screaming and yelling and hugging each other before we all settled down and trooped out of the stadium singing "we don't give damn," accompanied by any alumni band members nearby (who all still had their instruments)

basically pretty crazy. as a matter of fact i'm gonna go make a Lolcat thing of the scoreboard.

How can a buckeye fan not hate Michigan? Seriously, i wouldn't root for that team up north if they were facing al-Qaeda.

    ^Well fine...

I understand that the football team blew it; I understand why we're talking about it and giggling like little girls; what I can't comprehend is why many of you are "celebrating" this.

What the hell did Michigan ever do to you?

UH well let's see, Appalachian State is a good school in my state that doesn't get a lot of credit but has been making a lot of improvements to change that. Am I not allowed to be happy to see them succeed? I mean, honestly, I dislike both Michigan and OSU, but the victory would be just as great if they were playing Florida, USC, or any other great football powerhouse.

I'm sure ASU is probably a good school but still THIS is the school that beat michigan. haha

As a USC alum, I root for the Trojans and celebrate when any of its rivals go down. Michigan is a Rose Bowl rival. We've played them tons of times over the years, and there's definite competitive bias going on. Plus, the Big 10 and Pac 10 are rival conferences (again, due to the Rose Bowl), so there's that to play off of.

So that's why I laughed my ass off when Michigan got owned. Similarly, I laughed my ass off when OSU got owned in the BCS Championship Game this past January. ;)

    Ok, now that's funny.

Some guy there posted this, which i though was great (it's from wikipedia):

wikipedia's comment on the matter: "The extensive use of puffery and the retro juxtaposition of music and PowerPoint style still imagery claiming that the school is "hot hot hot" inadvertently play into the stereotype that people from the Appalachian region are unsophisticated and out of touch"

you just had to bring that up... 8@
I will admit though.. Troy Smith (and our O line) was a huge disappointment there.
  • Ride6%s's Photo
I will admit that going into the game; even though I'm at Michigan, I thought "wouldn't it be cool if this went the other way? It's not like we (the Wolverines) can't possibly recover from it and it would be unimaginably awesome for ASU."

I guess that's the American hang up of rooting for the underdogs, and thanks to this game Michigan are now the underdogs, lmao.
