Ask the Experts / Extreme Problems with Merging Coasters

  • Norcal Twists%s's Photo
Okay I am having some major issues merging coasters right now. Currently I am designing an Intamin coaster like Maverick and I can't seem to merge the vertical track on because of ERROR TRAPPERS!

I have looked at all of the tutorials and none of them help.
I have also tried using ALL of these versions of 8 Cars Per Trainer:
    1.20
    1.21
    1.31
    1.32
    Anyone think they can help?

I don't think you can merge on vertical... just merge on flat or sloped track, not vertical and you shouldn't get error trappers

Do you mean like this? -

    Or this?

If so, I can help you out.

@Ling- I understand that lol. I am doing the flat merge.

@Disneylhand- Yes that is exactly what I mean. I could really use your help.

    Okay... I hope this helps.

Build your coaster, using the coaster track needed for it to be vertical. Name them. For this example, the main track is named "Maverick", and the vertical track is named "Vertical Track".

Change the last piece of the original segment of "Maverick" to 'Alternative Color Scheme 1'. Change the last segment of "Vertical Track" to 'Alternative Color Scheme 1'.

    Go to 8cars.
rides --> edit ride stats --> Where it says 'Ride #' choose the number with the corresponding name "Maverick"
check 'raise lower' --> set height offset (for Raise/Lower): '+5'. --> 'Apply'.

rides --> edit ride stats --> Where it says 'Ride #' choose the number with the corresponding name "Vertical Track"
check 'raise lower' --> set height offset (for Raise/Lower): '+5'. --> 'Apply'.

Go back into the game and build the coaster so it looks like this: (you will need to change color schemes too).

    Go to 8cars.
rides --> edit ride stats --> Where it says 'Ride #' choose the number with the corresponding name "Maverick"
Where it says 'Operating Mode', choose 'Boat Hire Mode'
check 'raise lower' --> set height offset (for Raise/Lower): '-5'. --> 'Apply'

Where it says 'Operating Mode', choose 'Boat Hire Mode'
check 'raise lower' --> set height offset (for Raise/Lower): '-5'. --> 'Apply'

    It should look like this:

Change your alternative colors back to normal.
    Save.
Test it to make sure everything works.

    And, you're done!

I think I explained everything well enough for you to do it on your own, but if I missed something, anyone, feel free to fill in the blanks. Sorry I couldn't do this more graphically, I don't know how to take screenshots... I hope this helps.

    Good luck,

P.S. After doing all of this, I realized that the case may be that your only problem is that the rides aren't sent to 'Boat Hire Mode'. That may be the only reason why you're getting the error messages. If that's the situation, I hope this helps at least someone out there... lol.

Thank you. I will try that, but it seems Geewhzz has told me an easier way to do it.

I usually zero clearence a section and put track directly over it. However, I've realized that it's not a good idea.
  • Ling%s's Photo
^that gives you a bunch of ghost track, which is completely useless. Go with merging...

could someone please teach me how to merge.

first we must know what you do wrong. make a screen(with alternative color scheme) or sent the park with the merge coaster (like this(sorry, it's dutch but i don't know a better one)) to me and i can see what the problem is.

mostly is the problem that the lowed tracks are not the same as the one you low him in or that you low him to much (he lows too when you put on "ok")

see the thing is i dont know how to use alterative color schemes.
    im really new with rct2.

Go to the paint tab once you've clicked on the coaster, ride, whatever (where you re-color the track). You know the thing that says "Main Color Scheme"? Click that and a menu will drop down, from which you can select "Alternative Color #1", "Alternative Color #2", and "Alternative Color #3".

Thanks ive been wondering how to do that.

The track that is above the other track must be from exactly the same coaster as you are merging to/from :)
