If they're dicks, then they will not post anything relevant to a spoiler alert, thus we read it without knowing any better until we have started reading the post's substance.

I know many people whose summers will have a shadow cast over them if Harry dies, and people like that are a lot more pathetic than dicks that post spoilers about it and adversely get you to dig your head out of a fantasy story a bit and come back to real life.

Just saying.

Panic, since when are you an advocate of real life? Real life sucks. Fantasy worlds rock. Take Star Wars, LotR, or RCT for example...

It's gonna be worse with Deathly Hallows, since the ending was leaked already.
Plus people must always find ways to be assholes and ruin things for others for no good reason.

That leak was bullshit. I read what it said and it's clear that it was made up by a moron. When we get the book on the 21st we will see proof that it was a stupid hoax. Also Cork has made it clear he will ban anyone who attempts to spoil the books by posting here and I don't intend to stop him. Myself I don't really care, I could tell Git posted (last year with HBP) a link that would spoil stuff but read it anyways and was like "Oh, so Dumbledore dies, I can't wait to find out why and how" did not spoil much imo.

As for the movies I have not liked them that much, I'll see it on ABC or the Family channel when it hits TV.

I just keep out of topics with spoilers until I've read the book which is generally a while after. As I am an EXTREMELY slow reader and generally don't get the book until 2 weeks later of it's release.

And my point is if someone wants to piss everyone who wants to read the book through off, they won't label it as such.

I enjoy reading the books, and watching the movies, although it's quite funny how Emma Watson gets worse acting wise as the films go on... not noticeably so, but I saw the first film on TV the other night and it was an acting masterclass from her.

The Waterstones near me is have a "Harry Potter Party" starting at 8 o clock the evening before the release of the book, and is encouraging people to come in fancy dress.

Might I suggest to you all the late Kurt Vonnegut in your future literary endeavors.

I would double that suggestion. Mind you, I've only read one of his books so far (Cats Cradle) but it is by far the best book I've ever read. I love the HP series too, mainly because I have grown up reading them, but they are 'asinine' () in comparision.

To me that is just as bad as reading a spoiler on the internet. With that the book has no suspense in between. I read a maximum of 3 chapters at any one reading, to keep me in suspense for the next part of the book. Making it a lot more fun to read, rather than spoil everything right away. This is also why I am glad I am a slow reader, however being slow means more people can spoil it for you. But since it comes out when I'm not at school... It might be a bit better this time around.

I was just trying to provoke, Turtle, to be honest... although I do think that Harry Potter is far from the most original idea ever. I mean, witches and wizards has been done before. A few times.

I also feel it's a shame that the majority of the general public only read books like Harry Potter or Da Vinci Code, which appeal quite shamelessly to the "buttons" panic described, rather than having the intellect to deal with books that the author has used to bare their soul through. Take His Dark Materials, for example, a fantastic philosophical novel, with a brilliant storyline as well. But oh no, it has long words and I'm not quite used to the idea of daemons or other worlds, and of course it's satanical (I know without reading it you see) so won't read that one.

JJ, you cant "spoil" something if you read it yourself and in the proper order, thats just silly. Someone else could spoil it for you, but you cant spoil it for yourself if all you do is read the book, no matter what speed.
