9/10 good stuff. would be 10/10 if i had some sort of emotional attatchment to it.

more slow core: Cat Power--American Flag

I really liked the song but that performace was fucking boring for the most part, at least to me. I never really understood Cat Power. I've tried to get into her but failed several times.
    7/10

And ride6, that Coldplay video was amazing. I usually can't stand them but that song was excellent.

Since that song is a b-side it's like Coldplay don't have a clue as to what they're good at. Really sad... Anyway.

Secret Machines = Great Band. Great performance there too... 9/10

hum. i almost posted this one but liked the other video better (they're both good!)

the sound quality is shit, the video isn't that great either, but they're so locked in and the atmosphere is really erie. the mix would be perfect too, but you can't really hear it well enough to tell. ;( i wish they'd have a bit more 'stage presence.' 9/10, would be 10/10 if it were a better recording.

The studio version of American Flag by Cat Power is cooler because it samples the Beastie Boys. I've always found that amusing.

Anyway, the video: 4/10. Reminded me too much of Ani DiFranco, both the voice and the guitar. I do not like Ani DiFranco, namely because I am not a lesbian.

    MC5 = The forgotten legend band. 9/10!

Apparently the original line up of this band is back together, which could potentially be one of the better things to happen to music in recent years :

    oops.

Missed it when he posted it.

And exactly what does that say? We both like MMJ!? That I'm going to have the opportunity to see MMJ at Lollapalooza, but since they conflict with Modest Mouse thanks to the stupidity of Perry Farrel and his scheduling team I'm going to have to consider my options carefully and am thus searching down live clips of both bands on YouTube? Did I mention that live MMJ wins hands down? Even though some others in my party will probably beg to differ.

Anyway I don't get a fuck about your thoughts on this matter.

    Ride6

Not that I know anything about MMJ, but Modest Mouse now carries two complete drumsets which sounds awesome live. On the other hand, they'll probably play mostly songs from the new album which aren't as good as their older songs so it's pretty much a wash.

Patrick Hallahan of My Morning Jacket plays with the ferocity of three drummers.

And also, Z/It Still Moves > Moon & Antarctica/Lonesome Crowded West

And Modest Mouse always gets mixed reviews live. I've never read anything but praise for My Morning Jacket's live show. I personally place it second to only Radiohead. Which is pretty serious, for me.

There's a lot more to playing the drums than just playing loud or fast. Seems like you were implying otherwise. Like I said, I don't know anything about My Morning Jacket. Never heard a single song. Go see what you like Ride 6, I was just trying to help a little.

^If 5/10 is average that's about 6.5/10 in my book.

The lyrics are quite good in spots, but the arrangement would work better with a full band I think...

Oh and don't click off of this just because of who it is... If only they did more stuff like this...

    Still terrible.

And you're still an ass hole; why am I not surprised?

Oh and based on what I've seen on YouTube and Okonokos (which I recently picked up used, but in perfect condition) I'm going to be pushing for MMJ. Personally I like Modest Mouse in studio better, or at least I like Lonesome Crowded West, The Moon and Antarctica & Good News better than Z. I don't have It Still Moves, but anyway... Okonokos kicks total ass though, and based on what I've seen My Morning Jacket if often better than that live; Modest Mouse can't even touch that.

But there's still a good chance based on the other people in my group that I'll end up seeing MM. No huge loss either way imo.

Well maybe since I recently saw Modest Mouse, you can take Jelly and my words as fairly legit for you: his for MMJ, mine for MM. Besides, we all have similar tastes here...not sure if that's a good thing, though...

Anyway, Modest Mouse is carrying around a second live drummer, and while a few of the songs seemingly have more drum "pop" live, it really is more of a detracting factor, because I'm sitting there going "what the fuck do they need two drumsets for on Trailor Trash or Spitting Venom?" Sure it's nice for the little extra atmospheric drum shit that goes on in Float On or maybe cool for Tiny Cities but definitely not necessary. Fine, whatever.

I am going to add that one of the openers I saw for Modest Mouse was fucking incredible. I think they were called Man Man or something like that??? If they are playing before Modest Mouse, (I am not sure at all, nor do I really feel like looking up all about Lolla) this changes things. Man Man were better than Modest Mouse. The opening act put on a better show...They reminded me of a mix between Oingo Boingo and Tom Waits, and to be perfectly honest, they are right up there with Radiohead/Arcade Fire for my favorite live bands. I wish I could have seen a whole show by them.

Back to Modest Mouse. Another few important things to note. First of all, when I saw them, Eric Judy, the longtime bassist was absent. If I'm not mistaken, he's still mysteriously gone. It's not that big of a deal because the bassist from the other opening act is taking care of bass duties, but if you are serious about seeing the "real Modest Mouse" (though I'm not sure what that means because of the recent addition of Marr) you may take that into account. Also, perhaps because of Marr, MM has a very static setlist on this tour, from what I remember of my research. Usually about 15 songs, (probably 11-12 for festival) with easily 10-11 of those 15 from Good News and We Were Dead. The other spots usually go to Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, Paper Thin Walls, Doin' The Cockroach, and a roll of the dice for what you're going to get beyond that. I was lucky enough to get one of my favs, Trailor Trash, and Dramamine (with Life Like Weeds). I wish they would actually play Life Like Weeds, that's probably my favorite MM song... :(

Anyway, don't get me wrong. I don't know that much about MMJ live. I am a fan of theirs, but I haven't gotten as into them as I have for some other bands, like MM. I will throw in that some stuff off of Good News is better live than on record like Bukowski and Bury Me With It, but some stuff is just a disaster. (The View... :( ) It's all up to you, sir. But Marr is not entertaining enough to merit seeing MM at this point, in my opinion. The setlist thing is my biggest qualm with touring MM, though the encore I saw of Dramamine/Life Like Weeds and Spitting Venom was freakin' amazing. Still, I would say that MM is a better band on record and I would go with MMJ based off of Okonokos ( )and Jelly's word.

By the way, I'm just wondering what you all think about We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. I like it, though it suffers from being a bit too long. I think they could have cut either Missed the Boat/We've Got Everything, and Education, along with maybe the shitter after Spitting Venom (I forget its name). I do like the direction they went with on Florida, Parting of the Sensory, etc. I do like the album, probably more than Good News. But still, it's not even close to Moon and Antarctica or even LCW...
