RCT Discussion / Fantasy vs. Realism

I think, many things you called fantasy are realism, cause I think it's realism how long as you can realize it in real life.
And Fantasy starts there, where it's impossible to build in real life. Like an Coaster without any tracks. Or floating objects.Edited by Fr3ak, 20 May 2007 - 02:02 PM.

I like what OLE said. do what you do and be happy. no matter what you make someone is going to dislike it. you just have to be happy with it and thats all that matters.

Evidentially you missed my point.ACEfanatic02 got the point here.
My opinion is: don't brother if it is realistic or not, just build the way you feel it should be.
I say you can still classify a park as more realistic or less realistic. It's just that everyone has aspects of realism and fantasy both in their park.
For example: aesthetics are considered important in a park. In real life, that only applies to public areas; in RCT, it requires that 'backstage' areas look good as well. (Aesthetics being used in the broadest possible definition.)
It's a game of give and take, and no park at either extreme exists. Indeed, they're probably impossible within the constraints of the game.
That said, I prefer a park that tries to incorporate at least the major elements of realism: basic park layout, supports, transfer tracks and other mechanical stuff.

I like where this is going! We don't need to have heated debates over which is better, but just to discuss where one style begins and one style ends. And realism definately ends with the WWD recreation at TycoonPlanet (does anyone even go there anymore?). I'll tell you right now (even though I hate to degrading things) the park itself is very acurate to the real thing. But it's not visually appealing as ACE mentioned backstage areas should be. When you create a realistic park, you have to consider the player, not the peep. The peeps are stupid and don't really care (they get lost on a 3x3 path square), while each and every one of us has an idea of how parks should look. We may try to define an extreme, but very few people have done so.
And ACE... "If you free you imagination you can do things that are imposible according to other. You only need the right tool. This tool is called WINHACK." -

Even with WinHack the game has certain limits that cannot be surpassed: color palette, physics, grid-based construction, etc.And ACE... "If you free you imagination you can do things that are imposible according to other. You only need the right tool. This tool is called WINHACK."

realism sucks, because real life sucks for each of us, so that's why we spend all our time building these parks, so we should all build fantasy

I guess that's why he wrote it as a quote heh... -

Wow, I was just remembering how I used to spew so much shit about topics like these ad nauseam. Like most of those, this has been completely argued into the rug.
I'm not going to pretend like I have all the answers (I used to talk like I thought so), but I'm pretty satisfied with two points:
1) ACE's diagram is absolutely correct.
2) No spot on that diagram is objectively preferable to another. There's no "indecisiveness" in being in the middle, as some people used to claim. Everything is a STYLE and none is better than another.
That's my take. -

Dude it's a video game and the way you put that is really retarted. I know damn well that most people in the world play video games and we tend to stretch this one. Yes many people do spend a lot time on this game but at the same time there are many other people who spend time on other video games. So the way you phrased that makes it sound like everyone in the world that plays video games has no life.
This is not the only game people drag on about...

There are two options here, either phatage is depressed.
or phatage feels highly intelectually funny.
I don't exactly understand JDP's reaction.. though. -

Its kind of hard to put into words but it dont really matter here. I just remebered how phatages post usually are... scarcastic and pointless/funny. So it looks like I screwed my self by posting that. Oh well .....

with the rctGUIeditor (see for download link my hex edit tuts) you change all hard coded elements.
for example I made a GUI file which makes your start screen purple .... (our april 1 hoax ).
the color pallets are stored in the GUI file also so you could change those to ... but rct2 only works with 255 colors so even if you change the color palets you could only change it a little bit because most colors are already used.
I haven't changed the color palets my self yet because I didn't have time (there are a lot of possibilitys with the GUI editor but I have to find a park to use it in still) but someone else tried it for me and he said it worked (Liampie from rct-guide). -

Sweet, I wonder if it's possible to great a beige. That's pretty much the only colour that RCT really needs.
